Ch. 8
Chapter 8: Entering the Heavenly Gate
Li Tianwei naturally saw the myriad of beings contending for the heavens before his eyes.
In his view, such a scene barely matched his own style.
Soon, heaven and earth shifted once again.
When Li Tianwei reopened his eyes, several figures appeared before him—men and women, young and old—all radiating an overwhelming aura.
However, to Li Tianwei, no matter how imposing they were, none could surpass himself.
Even when facing the oppressive might of the elders of the Sacred Land of Lingxu, Li Tianwei showed not the slightest ripple of emotion.
With neither arrogance nor servility, he slightly bowed and said,
“Greetings to all the seniors and elders.”
His calm tone and composed demeanor made the elders nod approvingly.
They were extremely satisfied with Li Tianwei’s performance.
Of course, this was only because Li Tianwei had appeared here as someone with a Heavenly Spiritual Root and who had climbed the Heart-Questioning Steps. Had he come under any other circumstances, in the eyes of these elders, he might have been dismissed as someone utterly blind to power.
“Well, well… Li Tianwei, are you willing to enter my Burning Void Peak? The Flame of Heaven Incineration Art of my peak is the most suitable cultivation method for your Pure Yang Heavenly Root.”
The Peak Master of Burning Void Peak, Zhang Heyang, was the first to speak.
“My Cloudsky Peak has several disciples listed among the beauties of the Sacred Land of Lingxu. If you are willing to join…”
Daoist Master Lan Yu also spoke directly, wasting no time.
Once he finished, the other elders refused to be outdone, each offering tempting benefits for Li Tianwei to join their peaks—magical treasures, pills, cultivation methods…
It was obvious to the naked eye just how sought-after Li Tianwei was.
Even so, Bai Muxu, standing quietly at the side, did not speak.
“Enough! Stop arguing and let Li Tianwei choose for himself!”
No one knew which elder had shouted in frustration during the squabble, but after that, the hall finally grew quiet.
Realizing their loss of composure, all the elders turned their gazes toward Li Tianwei.
Feeling their stares, Li Tianwei slowly swept his gaze across them, one hand clasped behind his back, as if he were choosing fresh produce at a market.
“I wonder,” he said indifferently, “which of you elders is the strongest.”
Li Tianwei cared nothing for whatever rewards he might gain from joining their peaks.
If he was to acknowledge a master, then it would only be the strongest.
Only such a person was barely qualified to be his teacher.
At his words, the elders did not immediately respond. However, their eyes subtly glanced toward a certain direction.
That person carried a sword on his back, wore black and white robes, and exuded a sharp and awe-inspiring aura. He was young and handsome, though in Li Tianwei’s eyes, his looks were still slightly inferior.
From their fleeting glances, Li Tianwei could easily tell that this person was the strongest among them.
Seeing Li Tianwei’s expression, the other elders and peak masters sighed helplessly, realizing they had already lost their chance.
Sensing the many gazes, Bai Muxu finally met Li Tianwei’s eyes.
Earlier, during the Heart-Questioning Steps, Bai Muxu had also thought Li Tianwei possessed a Pure Yang Heavenly Root. But now, as Li Tianwei stood before him, he strangely felt that Li Tianwei’s spiritual root was… off, though he couldn’t identify why.
“Are you certain you wish to join my sect and enter my Heavenly Gate Peak?”
Bai Muxu gazed steadily at Li Tianwei, his aura rising higher and higher, sharp and oppressive, enveloping the entire grand hall.
Around them, the other elders grew solemn as they looked toward Bai Muxu.
“He’s become stronger again,” someone muttered.
“In my peak,” Bai Muxu said, stepping toward Li Tianwei, “there are no pills, no treasures, and certainly no women as they promise…”
His words fell, but Li Tianwei still met his gaze without fear.
“I am willing.”
At the same time, he silently added in his heart, “Women will only slow down my cultivation.”
As for Bai Muxu, in Li Tianwei’s eyes, he was merely a stepping stone on his path of cultivation.
Seeing this, Bai Muxu smiled faintly and nodded deeply.
“Very well. From this day forth, you are my disciple.”
“I will teach you to the best of my ability. But if you fail to meet my expectations, you will obediently leave the mountain.”
“Greetings, Master.”
Li Tianwei hadn’t expected this new master of his to carry himself with such poise—somewhat stylish, in fact.
As for the so-called “requirements” Bai Muxu spoke of, he ignored them entirely.
Requirements, difficulties—none of that existed in Li Tianwei’s world.
He had never failed at anything he set his mind to.
After Li Tianwei entered Bai Muxu’s Heavenly Gate Peak, the remaining elders and peak masters could only settle for the next best disciples.
Soon, the results of the Heart-Questioning Steps for the others were also revealed.
Aside from Li Tianwei, who had ascended the steps, Fang Mochen and Li Tianchen both reached over eight hundred steps, qualifying them as personal disciples.
Yet with Li Tianwei’s presence, the two inevitably appeared dim in comparison.
One possessed an exceptional dual Fire-Wood Spiritual Root, and the other a Heavenly Spiritual Root.
In any other year, they would have been the most outstanding talents among the new disciples of the Sacred Land.
But with Li Tianwei here, they became mere foils.
Another round of competition among the elders followed.
In the end, Li Tianchen entered the tutelage of Lin Moyang of Woodbeard Peak, while Fang Mochen joined Cloudsky Peak under Daoist Master Lan Yu as a personal disciple.
As for the others who had climbed beyond six hundred steps, they too were assigned to various peaks. This year’s intake of disciples far surpassed previous years in quality.
Three personal disciples, dozens of core ones…
But Li Tianwei cared little about such matters.
After accepting him as his disciple, Bai Muxu brought Li Tianwei to Heavenly Gate Peak.
The Sacred Land of Lingxu comprised eleven peaks, each led by an elder at the Divine Transformation Realm, with several Nascent Soul elders beneath them. Each peak had its own responsibilities within the Sacred Land.
For example, Woodbeard Peak was the Pill and Herb Peak—responsible for alchemy and herb cultivation.
Burning Void Peak specialized in forging.
Cloudsky Peak served as the Law Enforcement Peak.
Heavenly Gate Peak, however, being newly established, had yet to take on any official duties.
Bai Muxu himself was a rising star of the past century: he reached Foundation Establishment in a hundred days, Golden Core in three years, broke into Nascent Soul in ten, and stepped into Divine Transformation within fifty.
Now he stood at the peak of that realm—still possessing a Heavenly Spiritual Root.
With such qualifications, Bai Muxu had earned the right to establish a peak of his own.
And Li Tianwei was the very first disciple under Bai Muxu—his first true successor.
Previously, Bai Muxu had taken in a few disciples, but all were eventually expelled from his peak.
None of them had ever met his expectations.
In Bai Muxu’s eyes, he himself had reached Foundation Establishment in a hundred days without relying on pills or external aid—so if his disciples couldn’t meet even this “small” requirement, they were unworthy of being his students.
To others, Bai Muxu seemed excessively harsh.
But to Bai Muxu himself, this was the bare minimum.
And whenever someone dared to argue, he would simply reply, “Did I not do it myself?”—rendering every elder and peak master of the Sacred Land speechless.
Still, Bai Muxu truly had the right to say so.
