Chapter 2: The Unhinged Status Screen
The popular guy stepped forward, brushing off the dust from his clothes. With his usual confidence, he said, "I'm Ryan Carter. Nice to meet you all." His voice carried the same charm that made him popular back in their world. Encouraged by his introduction, the other students began introducing themselves one by one, their voices filled with a mix of nerves and excitement.
As the last of the introductions concluded, one of the students asked hesitantly, "How do we have powers?"
The king nodded knowingly. "A valid question," he said. "Allow me to introduce our royal magician. He will explain everything."
From the side of the throne room, a man clad in ornate robes stepped forward. His long silver hair and piercing eyes gave him an air of wisdom and authority. "Greetings, otherworlders," he said, his voice smooth and composed. "I am Magnus, the royal magician. It is my honor to guide you in understanding this world's magic."
Magnus continued, "Magic in this world is woven into the fabric of existence itself. Each of you has been granted a unique connection to it. To discover your potential, you can call upon your 'status screen.' This screen will reveal key details about yourself. However, it is private; only you can see your own status." He gestured for them to try. "Go ahead. Say 'status screen' and see for yourselves."
The students hesitated at first, then began saying it aloud. "Status screen," they muttered, one after the other. Gasps and exclamations filled the room as glowing screens appeared in front of their faces, revealing their newfound identities in this world.
Tyler hesitated only for a moment before muttering, "Status screen." His breath hitched as a crimson screen materialized before him, unlike the blue or green screens of his classmates. His eyes scanned the list, his unsettling smile widening as he read:

Tyler's smile twisted into a maniacal grin, his true self breaking through. His red eyes gleamed with a crazed intensity as a low chuckle escaped his lips. He clapped a hand over his mouth, attempting to stifle his laughter, but his pinpoint-crazy eyes betrayed him. "I… I am a Fire Mage," he whispered to himself before letting out a quiet, unhinged laugh.
The other students were too engrossed in their own discoveries to notice his reaction. One by one, they began sharing their classes and magic abilities.
"I'm a Swordsman," Ryan said confidently. "And I have Wind Magic."
"I'm a Healer," another girl added, relief evident in her tone. "My magic is Light."
"I got Archer," a boy said, holding up his hands as if testing an invisible bow. "And I have Earth Magic."
As the room filled with voices proclaiming their newfound roles, Tyler remained silent, his eyes fixed on his status screen. His laughter had subsided, but the glimmer of madness in his gaze remained. This world was perfect for him, and deep down, he knew it.
Everybody was shocked and surprised about their powers. The royal magician observed their reactions with a calm demeanor and said, "These powers will grow over time with training and through fighting experiences in the real world." His words carried an air of authority, and the students nodded, some voicing their questions immediately.
The royal magician patiently addressed their inquiries, offering his insights and guidance. Meanwhile, Tyler glanced down at his hand. With a small movement, he opened his palm, and a flicker of flame danced into existence. His eyes widened in surprise, and he repeated the motion. This time, the flame burned brighter. A slow smile spread across his face, accompanied by a low chuckle. "Beautiful," he whispered, his grin growing wider, his eyes glinting with a hint of madness.
"Tyler," a voice called, snapping him out of his trance. He looked up to see the royal magician's steady gaze fixed on him. "Be careful," the magician said. "Magic is beautiful, but it can also become chaos."
The words "beautiful but chaos" echoed in Tyler's mind, and his smile widened further. He quickly masked it, nodding and replying, "Yes, sir. I understand."
The royal magician smiled approvingly. "Good. Now, back to what I was saying."
A few minutes later, the royal magician concluded his speech, and the king addressed the group. "Adventurers, go forth and train yourselves. But first, we have instructors on the training grounds who will help guide you. Someone will escort you there."
The students nodded in unison, their spirits a mix of nervousness and determination. Together, they walked to the training grounds. As they entered, gasps of awe echoed among them. The training grounds were vast, with sprawling open spaces, towering structures for physical training, and designated areas for magic practice.
The royal magician stepped forward and introduced the instructors, naming each one and explaining their specialties. The group nodded respectfully, some whispering among themselves about the impressive scale of the facilities. Then, the royal magician turned to the group with a slight smirk. "We have a special exhibition match to demonstrate. It will be between me and young Tyler over here."
Tyler froze. "What?" he asked, eyes wide with surprise.
The royal magician raised a calming hand. "It's okay. I only want to see how much power you have. Don't worry, I'll only use half my power against you."
Tyler hesitated but nodded. "Okay."
The two made their way to the training field, the other students forming a circle around them, whispering excitedly. The royal magician stood tall, his robes flowing in the breeze, and Tyler faced him with an uneasy but determined look.
"Are you ready, kid?" the royal magician asked, his tone friendly yet challenging.
Tyler clenched his fists, the flames flickering faintly at his sides. He smirked. "Yeah. Let's do this."
