Chapter 44
The fox-eared maid’s uniform is drenched red with the blood of the cows. It’s quite a splatter scene. Well, it’s the enemy’s blood, so it’s not a big deal.
And maybe because of the blood—her expression looks even colder.
Somehow, her face is stern.
You shouldn’t judge people by their expressions, but there’s a certain chilling, intimidating aura about her.
No, no, maybe she has a cute name or something, that could be a charming contrast.
“This is one of our servants, her name is Veradonna.”
“That’s a poisonous name!”
Indeed, it sounds related to poison.
“My name is Veradonna. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
She bows politely, but there’s no smile in the fox-eared maid’s eyes.
“By the way, Veradonna is just a nickname.”
“Oh, I see. I figured her real name wouldn’t be that intimidating.”
“I abandoned my real name a long time ago.”
What happened in her past?
“She has the aura of an assassin,” Misha noted.
“Misha, don’t just blurt out what you’re thinking. That’s rude…”
“Yes, until about five years ago, I was involved in some shady business.”
She’s the real deal!
“Hahaha. Nobles can be targets too, you know. So, I thought hiring an assassin would be more reliable,” said the head of the household, who seemed to be quite an extraordinary person himself, like Lena’s father.
“I’m grateful. Assassins have to live in a tense environment, so a stable income is a big help,” Veradonna added.
“That makes sense… interesting perspective.”
“Being a household of adventurers, you never know who might try to intrude. You need a certain type of servant for that,” the head of the household explained.
“I can see that.”
“We’ll have Veradonna serve as your new maid in exchange for allowing Lena to continue living in your house. What do you think, Lena?”
He first asked Lena.
“I’m fine with it… but what about Master and Big Sis?”
Lena seemed slightly puzzled by the strong-willed candidate.
“I have no objections. We might even get bored with a servant who can’t fight,” Misha said.
“In that case, I have no objections either. She’s welcome to join us,” I said, making eye contact with Veradonna, who gave a small nod in return.
“Very well, it’s settled then,” the head of the household said, clapping his hands. And so, a new member would be added to our household.
“I’m Misha, more of a cat in spirit than a cat beastman,” Misha introduced herself and went for a handshake. Being an assassin, Veradonna would probably keep a tight lid on things anyway.
“Pleased to work with you, Lady Misha,” Veradonna shook her hand.
“Ah, there’s one condition for living in our house,” Misha said with a smile, but I sensed a hint of killing intent.
“I won’t tolerate anyone making a move on my Master. Just so you understand.”
“Whoa, Misha, I won’t cheat on you, don’t worry…”
“I’m not doubting Master. But women can be the ones to initiate, too.”
“I was an assassin. I will obey orders unconditionally. Rest assured.”
That’s some intense first contact…
“Good, keep that in mind,” Misha finally smiled.
And so, it was confirmed that Veradonna would join our household.
But now that I think about it, with Veradonna being fox-eared, it’s like we’re gathering more and more beast-eared folks.
“Is this going to start rumors that the guy living in that house is only interested in beast people?” I muttered to Misha.
“Oh, that won’t be a problem,” she replied.
“How can you be so sure?”
“Lena told me that ever since she and I have been living there, that’s the rumor going around town.”
“It’s too late then!”
Well, at this point, might as well embrace it as a unique character trait of the household.
