Chapter 4: Everything Had Been A Lie
Rory's pov
As soon as I stepped into the house, I broke down at once, sobs wracking through my entire body as I cried into my arms. It was clear that everything had been a lie, all the beautiful memories I've created with Tracy had actually been with her secretly hating me.
It was still hard to believe and if she hadn't said those vile words to be in person, I wouldn't have believed that she actually never loved me all these years.
After a little while, while still shedding tears, I began to hear voices.
It made me stop crying as I tried to listen hard. I thought I was hearing things at first, but after a little while, I realized that I wasn't hearing things and that I had indeed been hearing voices.
I pulled my weakened self off the ground, ignoring the way the world sharply tilted, and the way the pounding of my heard increased drastically.
As I walked forward, I realized that the sound was coming from the bedroom, causing me to blink in surprise and confusion. Panic flared through me at first, because I first thought that the voices were from intruders who Tracy had sent to finish me off.
I was about to turn around and run out of the house in the next minute, but a familiar scent hit me right in the face almost immediately, causing me to stiffen at once. I stood frozen in the same spot as I blinked in confusion. The scent drifted past my nose moments later and I realized that i really hadn't been imagining things up.
The scent smelt so much of Axel, my fiancé. That made the confusion in me to thicken. Sometimes, his scent lingers around whenever he comes to visit, but his scent always leaves the next day, and it's been a week since he was here.
I made my way towards the bedroom door, chosing to stop behind the door, because now, the voices were now clearer, and that was when I also heard my… sister's voice…?
As I blinked in confusion, I pressed my ear against the door, trying to hear clearly.
"You know you're the only one I desire, the only one I want and crave, like my next breath depends on it."
That was Alex's voice, and kissing sounds followed that sentence, causing me to stiffened as a confused frown contoured my face.
"I just wish it was easy, if only it was, then you know I'd get married to you in a heartbeat."
Alex's voice again, and my mouth fell open in disbelief.
"I hate that we have to do this. I hate that we can only see and love each other in private. I hate that I have to watch my stupid brother get married to you. It's breaking my heart, even though I know you don't love or desire him, even though I know you're just doing it for the future of his pack, because of his wolf, it still hurts."
This was my sister's voice, and this time, a gasp flew past my throat as I slid to the ground, suddenly feeling too weak to stand.
More kissing sounds followed and I got the urge to puke but forced myself to swallow it down at once.
"As soon as I get married to him and can be able to harvest the usefulness of his wolf, I'd discard of him and make you my Queen at once. This I promise you, and you know I never go back on my words."
Alex spoke this time and tears rolled down my face this time. I couldn't believe my ears, i couldn't believe that my fiancé who I was so in love with, didn't care about me one bit, and is actually in love with my sister.
He said something about my wolf, and that sounded very dumb to me because my wolf has been asleep since I could remember. That statement made no sense to me, but it seemed like it did to Alex and my sister, who didn't bother to object on listening to Alex talking about getting rid of me.
With renewed strength, I got to my feet and pushed the door open, standing at the doorway with tears streaming down my face. My fiancé and sister were in bed together, naked and tangled with the sheets. They scrambled into sitting positions on sighting me, eyes wide with shock.
"Rory." My elder sister, Anna, whispered as she blinked at me in shock.
Alex rolled out of the bed and hurriedly thrusted his legs into his pants before rushing towards me. "How long have you been behind the door? How much did you hear?" He asked as he reached for me but I pulled away, holding a hand out.
"Enough. I heard enough, Alex." I whispered through another sob, and then I glanced towards Anna who clutched the worn sheets across her bare chest.
"I can't believe this. I thought we trusted and loved each other?" I whispered and Anna averted her gave, guilt painted across her face.
"I'm sorry, Rys." She whispered and I flinched at the use of that nickname.
"Don't call me that, please." I whispered sharply through my tears which I began to wipe off.
"Rory, my love…" Alex began, reaching for my hand but I tugged it away.
"You don't need to keep up the act, I heard everything." I responded through the ache in my chest.
"I'm no longer interested in getting married to you. You can wed with my elder sister in peace, since she's the one you clearly want. I won't stand in front of your happiness."
Alex shook his head as he tried to reach for me. "Don't say that Rory, you know I care about you, don't you?"
I shook my head. "That was what I've always thought, but it's clear that I was just being delusional. You don't care about me, you hate me, and you plan on killing me shortly after we get married. I never imagined that someone who claimed rme love me would ever think of getting rid of me."
Alex shook his head vehemently and grasped my hand but I tugged my hand away, suddenly feeling repulsed by his touch.
"We should just cancel the wedding, Alex, because I can never get married to you after this."
