CEO Daddy Begs Mommy for Remarriage

Chapter 9: Chapter 9 How did my Aunt curse me to get divorced?

The great-aunt and the third aunt were both startled and turned to see her, their faces momentarily awkward before they broke into smiles.

"Xiao Qing, are you... bringing Grandpa his meal?" The third aunt took a few steps forward to make conversation.

Mu Wanqing didn't respond but followed up on the previous topic, "Wen Zhan genuinely respects Grandpa, not like you say for favoritism or to snatch the property."

The great-aunt calmed down then and regained the composure of the Family Head, smiling slightly, "Xiao Qing, don't misunderstand, your third aunt and I were just chatting about family matters."

"Chatting about family matters isn't the same as slandering behind someone's back. You are the elders, and your words carry weight. If these words spread, the younger generation will take them as truth, and everyone will have an opinion about Wen Zhan."

Mu Wanqing still argued for what she believed was right, hoping they would recognize their mistakes and set a good example as elders.

Her words seemed harsh, and the great-aunt's expression immediately soured, "Wanqing, you know we're your elders, shouldn't you show us some respect?"

The great-aunt came from a well-off family and married into the Wen Family decades ago, always respected by others.

Today, a girl she looked down upon from the bottom of her heart was openly confronting her, unable to save face, she then displayed the authority of an elder.

Seeing her expression, Mu Wanqing felt nervous too, but thinking she was in the right, she retorted firmly, "If you were right, I would certainly respect you. But the things you and the third aunt said are purely your imagination. And about the company, although I'm not involved, I've seen how hard Wen Zhan has worked since he took over. Your sons didn't want to shoulder the burden, Wen Zhan had to bear it alone, and you reap the benefits without gratitude, instead, you plot against him behind his back."

These words made the great-aunt's face look even uglier, and the third aunt was also visibly angry.

"What do you know! When is it your turn to judge the Wen Family's affairs? A wild girl with no parents, just because you were lucky to be favored by the old master and changed your fate by marrying into the Wen Family, do you really think you're that important? The old master won't last long, by then see if Wen Zhan will still want you! What's there to be proud of? You even dare to lecture us, with no manners!" The third aunt, not as restrained as the great-aunt, immediately lashed out harshly when provoked.

The great-aunt sneered, continuing her sister-in-law's words, "You said it yourself, she's a wild girl without parents, who taught her manners?"

Mu Wanqing, facing two against one, inevitably felt at a disadvantage, and a sharp retort wounded her, leaving her face hurt, "Even if I am impolite, I know better than to talk about people behind their backs. You claim to have manners, yet act otherwise."

"You—" The third aunt, furious, suddenly stepped forward aggressively.

Fortunately, the great-aunt grabbed her, whispering a reminder, "Don't stoop to her level! If this gets to the old master, it'll be even worse!"

The third aunt gritted her teeth, regaining her logic, and glared resentfully at Mu Wanqing, cursing, "I'll be waiting for the day Wen Zhan divorces you! See what you have to be proud of then! Defending him, he's just using you as a pawn, nothing more!"

"Third aunt, how has my nephew wronged you to wish me divorced and hope for my family to fall apart?" Suddenly, a deep, cool voice slowly approached, startling everyone.

Mu Wanqing quickly turned around and saw the stern man with a cold smile walking towards them, feeling suddenly relieved, her gaze filled with a touch of grievance.

Of course, she didn't realize it herself.

Wen Zhan walked to his wife's side, raised his hand to drape it over her shoulder and pulled her slightly into his arms, his handsome face turned toward the elders to continue questioning, "Third aunt hasn't answered my question yet. Is it just because my second brother didn't become president that you hold a grudge against me? If that's the case, I can step down immediately and let him take over."

The third aunt's face went through several changes, finally squeezing out a smile, "Wen Zhan, this... it's all a misunderstanding. Your second brother loves to have fun, he can't sit still in an office, how could he possibly manage a company? It was Xiao Qing who misunderstood us."

"Is that so?" Wen Zhan looked down at his wife in his arms, his expression and tone softened, asking, "Since when have your ears not been working? Usually, when the kids wake up and hum even a bit, you hear them from afar and rush over."

Mu Wanqing knew what he meant and went along with it, "Maybe I haven't rested well recently, I might have heard things."

"Then we'll accompany Grandpa for lunch, and you should head back to rest early."

"Mm."

The two treated each other with utmost respect, and before the echoes of their words had faded, Wen Zhan turned around, embracing his wife.

However, when they reached the corner, he suddenly turned back, "Great Aunt, Third Aunt-in-law, if you have grievances with me, you should confront me directly; do not vent your anger on the innocent. Qingqing has no maternal family, and her grandfather is our Wen Family's benefactor. As seniors, you should love and protect her more. If news of what just happened spreads, outsiders will think that our Wen Family bullies others and repays kindness with ingratitude."

His words were calm and gentle, yet they struck Mu Wanqing's heart like a drum, stirring up tumultuous waves.

His ability to perform in front of others was indeed perfected.

Moreover, just a second ago he had been giving face to the elders, purposely finding an excuse for her to pause, yet the next second, he subtly but unmistakably rebuked them in person—it was truly baffling.

The Great Aunt and Third Aunt-in-law, chastened by his words, turned pale, struggling to speak multiple times.

Wen Zhan walked away lightly with his wife, leaving behind two elders who were too angry to find a place to vent.

"Look at that smug look, they really are well-matched! The same lack of manners, the same disrespect for elders!" Third Aunt-in-law trembled with anger.

Yet the Great Aunt shot her a glance and left angrily, "It's all your fault! Dragging me into this chatter, and they overheard us!"

"I...this—" Third Aunt-in-law was at a loss for words.

————

On the other side, after Wen Zhan had left with Mu Wanqing, they headed toward the hospital room, his arm never leaving her.

Mu Wanqing felt uncomfortable, but thinking that they still needed to pretend to be a loving couple in front of the old man, she did not pull away and let him hold her.

Her mind replayed the scene of Wen Zhan defending her, and those words warmed her heart.

But then she thought about the conversation between the Great Aunt and Third Aunt-in-law, and that bit of warmth quickly dissipated.

Did he marry her just to obey Grandpa, to gain greater control over the company and more wealth?

If one could sacrifice years of feelings for personal gain, then that person was truly not worth entrusting one's heart to, and could even be considered a scoundrel.

In that light, it turned out to be a good thing that Lu Kejun didn't end up with him.

Perhaps she had seen through his true nature early on, and had wisely refused him, choosing instead to marry the son of the Gu Family.

Previously, Mu Wanqing thought that he was truly devoted to Lu Kejun, a man of single-hearted affection.

But now she had changed her opinion; this "devotion" was nothing more than the restless pursuit of what one could not have, always wanting more and more.

Moreover, the Great Aunt and Third Aunt-in-law had mentioned that the old man planned to change his will, reallocating his wealth—was Wen Zhan against divorcing her because of this?

After all, having her included meant an extra share.

With these thoughts, Mu Wanqing felt an even colder chill in her heart, reminding herself once again—she must not be fooled by his looks, must not be blinded by his momentary acts of performance—divorce was absolutely necessary!
