CEO Daddy Begs Mommy for Remarriage

Chapter 11: Chapter 11 The Famous Shrimp Peeling Incident

"I've thought of all the possible solutions," Wen Zhan said without stopping his pace, turning his head towards her. "The old man doesn't want us to know these things, so just pretend you don't know, and don't show up tomorrow with that worried, sad face."

Mu Wanqing unconsciously followed him, remaining silent.

She felt that she couldn't fake it that well.

"These days, visit grandpa whenever you have time. Occasionally bring the kids over to play; it really cheers him up to see his great-grandchildren. Maybe it will alleviate some of his suffering."

The woman nodded repeatedly, "Okay, I understand. I'll bring the babies over tomorrow."

Wen Zhan walked to his car, where his bodyguard and driver Yi Hang had already opened the rear door. "Third young master, good evening, madam."

The man stopped, turned towards the woman who had followed him, and looked at her with deep eyes, "How about we have dinner together?"

Huh?

Mu Wanqing was startled and only then realized she had followed him to the car.

Well… since she had come this far, it would be somewhat disrespectful to refuse now.

Moreover, his mood seemed low due to his grandfather's condition, a pain she could empathize with, stirring feelings of pity within her.

"I... I've already eaten at home, but—I can keep you company while you eat." Her eyes were clear and calm as she looked at the man and agreed to his suggestion.

The two got into the car, and Yi Hang drove them to a nearby restaurant.

On the way, Wen Zhan didn't speak again. Mu Wanqing glanced at him casually, comforting words on the tip of her tongue, yet she dared not speak them.

She was feeling agitated and conflicted because her emotions were so unpredictable.

One moment she thought he was devoted; another, she felt he was despicable; sometimes she admired his filial piety; and at other times, she believed he was cunning—now, she just thought he was pitiful...

Ah, truly a mind in turmoil.

————

At the restaurant, they chose a seat with a good view.

Wen Zhan browsed the menu, flipped through it, and asked her, "What would you like to eat?"

Mu Wanqing felt honored.

They had been married for two years, and the times they had dined alone didn't exceed three occasions.

Every time, they had ordered separately; he had never asked what she liked.

"I… I'm not hungry."

"Let me order some soup for you; the soups here are quite good." It suited her, especially since she was nursing and needed to drink more soup.

"Okay, thank you."

"You're welcome."

The atmosphere between the two, which had been a cold war, suddenly eased, making Mu Wanqing extremely nervous and uncomfortable.

She still preferred the Wen Zhan who was indifferent to her, who wouldn't even deign to look her in the eye.

After ordering, just as Wen Zhan had the waiter take away the menu, a voice came from behind them: "Third brother! It really is you; I thought I was mistaken!"

Both of them looked up, surprised.

Lu Kejun.

Unexpectedly, she was here dining as well.

As Lu Kejun approached, her smile noticeably faltered upon seeing Mu Wanqing.

"It's already past one, and you haven't eaten yet?" She asked with concerned surprise.

"Yeah, went to visit Grandpa; just came from the hospital," Wen Zhan replied, and then curiously asked her, "Are you here alone?"

"No, Xinchen is behind; he just got back from a business trip today, and I picked him up at the airport. He's on a phone call; he'll come in in a minute." As she spoke, Gu Xincheng appeared at the restaurant entrance.

Lu Kejun raised her hand, "Husband, over here!"

Gu Xincheng walked over, equally surprised to see his childhood friend.

"What a coincidence? I was saying I'd go to your office later, and here we are." Dressed in a suit, Gu Xincheng looked travel-weary, evidently tired from his days on the road.

Noticing the woman sitting across from his friend, Gu Xincheng nodded politely: "Miss Mu, hello."

Mu Wanqing had met him a few times and politely responded, "Hello, Mr. Gu."

Lu Kejun, holding her husband's arm, suggested, "Husband, let's sit here and eat together."

Gu Xincheng had business to discuss with his friend and naturally didn't mind the company. He turned to Mu Wanqing to seek her approval, "Would Miss Mu mind?"

Mu Wanqing shook her head repeatedly, "Of course not, the more the merrier."

Gu Xincheng looked at his charming wife, "Then you sit here." He indicated the spot next to Mu Wanqing.

Lu Kejun pouted slightly, whispering, "No, I want to sit with you; it's been so long since you've been with me…"

Her coquettish complaint was pitiful, something no man could resist.

Mu Wanqing clearly saw, Wen Zhan averted his gaze.

She sighed internally for him: Poor man, to witness the woman he favours displaying affection so openly with his best friend—it's more heartbreaking than physical torture.

Gu Xincheng looked awkwardly toward Mu Wanqing, but before he could speak, she immediately stood up, "Then you sit here; I..."

She looked at Wen Zhan, her eyes filled with inquiry and testing.

Fortunately, Wen Zhan wasn't so oblivious. He quickly got up, making room for her, "You sit inside; they'll be serving the meal soon."

"Thank you," she was extremely polite, passing in front of the man to take a seat inside.

Watching the interplay between them, Gu Xincheng teased, "You two really are the model of mutual respect."

Mu Wanqing shyly looked down, a blush crossing her face.

Wen Zhan, however, remained calm, not participating in the conversation.

Lu Kejun watched their interaction, then slyly glanced at Mu Wanqing's expression, and suddenly realized with surprise,

Could it be that there's some truth to the saying 'time breeds affection'?

Her woman's intuition told her—they were about to spark something.

After the food was served, apart from Mu Wanqing, the other three started eating.

Lu Kejun, seeing her just drinking soup and not eating anything else, couldn't help but ask curiously, "Don't you like any of these dishes?"

Mu Wanqing looked up at her, a bit surprised that she was speaking to her, and continued drinking her soup before responding, "I had lunch at home before coming out; Wen Zhan hadn't eaten, so I came to accompany him."

It was just a statement of fact.

But to Lu Kejun, it felt like a boast—boasting about their good marital relationship.

Feeling snubbed, Lu Kejun's expression turned awkward and she turned to her husband, "Honey, I want to eat shrimp, peel a few for me."

Gu Xincheng, who was talking business with Wen Zhan, responded in a low voice, "In a bit."

"…"

The reply "in a bit" clearly did not satisfy her, making her expression worsen.

Feeling that outsiders were mistreating her, and even her own husband wasn't giving her face, tears were about to fall.

Wen Zhan glanced at her, naturally picked up a salt-baked shrimp, quickly peeled it, and stretched his arm across the table to place it in her bowl.

"Thank you, third brother!" Lu Kejun immediately showed a bright smile, her mood greatly improved.

In the past, Gu Xincheng wouldn't have thought much of this.

The three of them had grown up together, and it was nothing out of the ordinary to say they were like family; over the years, both men had doted on Lu Kejun.

But today, with Mu Wanqing present, this action couldn't help but…

Wen Zhan withdrew his hand and caught his friend's glance, suddenly realizing—he recognized the impropriety.
