Chapter 25: Getting Back to it.
(Celia’s POV)
After spending a few days at their estate, I had gotten used to living here. In the morning, I will do pushups and other kinds of workouts, then go take a bath. After that, I eat some breakfast. Then, I go back to training.
Though I did work out, this wasn’t an easy system to game. My efforts didn’t reward me with levels, nor any skills. My SIP supply was almost endless, but I will not be spending them anytime soon, even if I get new Skills or Upgrades to buy.
I am better off just dealing with problems without spending my SIP’s on Skills or Upgrades, as there will be better things to buy in the store, and I doubt anything that becomes available will actually be worth spending them on.
Saren: “Celia, if I weren’t the only heir, I would go with you…” She said with a remorseful tone.
Celia: “It’s fine. You don’t seem like much a fighter, anyway. Just stay home, and I will come back stronger.” I reply with a giggle.
Remi: “After each mission, please come back and rest. Do not risk your life for quick gains.” She advised.
Celia: “Of course. I have a family to live for, you know.” I agree.
Waving them goodbye, I was then in a very large city. Within the city of their fief was a teleportation gate. I didn’t gain levels, but I gained a more trained body from my workouts. Since I couldn’t get any more progress, it was decided that it was time to go do quests.
That is, to go join a guild, and do their open quests. As such, I had teleported to the capital city of the kingdom of Bearta. Which is the kingdom that their fief resided in. With a small stretch, I walked along the city streets. My goal was the adventurer’s guild. Now, in my original world, I did not have a good time with a guild like this.
But Saren, Rie, Remi, and Mary had all assured me that this guild wasn’t corrupt. The adventurer’s guild of this world was highly respected, and corruption was rarely found within. To ensure this, the guild wasn’t loyal to any kingdom, and they wouldn’t take on requests from them. Such as helping with their wars.
Receptionist: “Welcome! Are you here to put up a quest, or to join the guild?” She asked with a smile.
Celia: “Join the guild.” I say, placing an emblem down on the table and pushing it to her.
Receptionist: “…”
Celia: “?”
Receptionist: “Please wait one minute while I verify this!” She said, taking the emblem and quickly hurrying away, probably to talk to the guild leader.
After waiting in line for just a bit, as it seems that the guild isn’t that busy in the mornings, it was finally my turn. Of course, since it is me, I won’t be doing things the normal way. After all, I was given an emblem that represents the Rennold family.
Once again, I am presenting myself with the backing of a powerful family. I just hope that this won’t be me practicing the skill of insanity, and letting things play out just the same as they did in the past…
Ten Minutes Later.
Receptionist: “Sorry for the wait, Miss. The badge is real… What is your name?” She asked, somewhat out of breath, handing me back the emblem.
Celia: “Celia.” I answer.
Receptionist: “Lady Celia, will you be lodging with us?” She asked.
This guild, since it is a very large branch of it, offers lodging to adventurers. The lodgings aren’t simple, and are just as luxurious as the building is, both inside and out. This was actually why Remi told me to return to the Rennold estate after every quest.
Celia: “Perhaps? It is hard to say. I have a home back in the Rennold’s estate, but who knows if something will come up, and I’ll have to stay here.” I reply with an unsure tone.
Receptionist: “Very well. Then we’ll have a room kept reserved for you, then. Your registration is finished.” She replied with a nod.
Celia: “Thank you.” I reply before walking away.
Not letting people get themselves killed is a good idea, but not one that the guild focused on. There were no rankings for adventurers, but there were rankings for quests. The typical F rank to S rank, etc.
The difference was that the guild would even let a newcomer chose an S rank quest. Unlike in novels, there were no limits to the number of people that could take on a request. Under each was a little piece of paper that you can rip off. To accept a quest, you just have to do that. And this helps you see if others have taken on this quest. Which is amazingly useful.
Celia: “…”
Looking at the request wall for a few minutes, I eventually settled on a quest. It was an E rank quest. Not too hard, and not too easy. A young alchemist had requested an escort through a forest. The woman needed to get materials, and she wasn’t too keen on letting an amateur pick them out for her.
The forest was known as, The Emerald Clove. Inside were a few monsters. Mainly Goblins and Slimes. The alchemist didn’t have any fighting experience, so she wished for someone to protect her on this little gathering trip of hers.
All in all, this is a very good starter quest for me. If I was stupid, I would be taking on an S rank quest due to my own hubris. But right now, I was just still a level one human. I am not willing to take such a silly risk, and I am also not aware of when the store will open up.
A risk like that wouldn’t be wise, even if my Stats are way higher than a normal level one human should be. As such, I ripped off a piece of paper, and then I went on my way. At the moment, no one else had taken the quest.
Why? The pay was far too low. The woman was clearly young, most likely spending all of her funds on materials, or gathering them herself. A quest for killing Goblins, which never goes away, will reward you with 10 bronze coins for every five Goblin ears that you bring back. For her quest… she is only offering 3 bronze coins for the entire trip…
