Cave Refuge

Chapter 723: Reappearance

As expected, Robinson William's prediction became a reality.

By now, only the old, weak, sick, and disabled remained in the Magic Capital Base, aside from a small number of people who resisted the compulsory draft message. The Base had truly run out of any other resisting personnel.

The only consolation was that some air-raid shelters had been built in parts of the Magic Capital Base. Those civilians without much fighting capability, especially women, children, and the elderly, had timely hidden in the underground shelters when the Bat Monsters attacked and had promptly sealed the shelter doors.

The primary reason the Bat Monsters attacked the Magic Capital Base was that they were about to return home, and the return passage was located near the Base.

Just as they were about to return, a large number of Bat Monsters had gathered together, and with sufficient military strength at that moment, they decided to try attacking the Magic Capital Base.

If the resistance from the Magic Capital Base had been fierce, they would have chosen to give up. However, to their utter surprise, when they burst into the Base, it seemed like a ghost town, with no resistance whatsoever.

Although they could tell from the furnishings in some houses that people had lived there not long ago, they guessed that those people must have foreseen their attack and all chose to hide without resisting.

Most of the Bat Monsters felt some regret after learning this. Had they known that the Blue Star Humans would not resist but flee at the sight of their invasion, they would have attacked and plundered the cities right from the start, taking the treasures stored within.

A few more rational Bat Monsters looked particularly troubled upon learning this.

They were among the first batch of Otherworldly Invaders to the Blue Star and had actually seen Blue Star Humans lying in ambush near the Plane Transmission Channel, specifically to hunt those invaders like them who had just crossed over into Blue Star.

For this reason, they absolutely did not believe that the Blue Star Humans would simply flee upon encountering them.

What's more important, the Blue Star Humans had the ability to detect their actions in advance. Given that their sudden attack was a last-minute decision, it was impossible for the humans to have prior knowledge of it.

And the distance between where they were gathered and the Magic Capital Base wasn't far; with their flying capability, it would only take a few minutes.

Yet in those brief minutes, the humans who had been living in the Magic Capital Base had managed to disappear from it without a trace.

With such organizational discipline and the ability to detect enemy movements in advance, it's normal to be unable to defeat these invaders. But in just a few minutes, the survivors residing in the Base had vanished silently.

If Blue Star Humans truly had such strength, they would never have simply surrendered an empty city like they did now.

But these invaders, though greedy for everything, had no interest in established buildings.

After all, material resources, even in large quantities, could somehow be taken away, but they had no way to deal with a grand building except to destroy it.

So, facing this empty city, the only thing the Bat Monsters could do now was to destructively search for valuable items left in the Magic Capital Base.

They were not worried about being unable to find the valuables within the Base, because having the ability to locate treasures through sacrifice made it absolutely certain there would be no missing treasures.

Given that the Magic Capital Base no longer had any defensive capacity, it had become an object left completely unprotected and at their whim. Thus, they were entirely confident about seizing any treasure information obtained through sacrifice.

Now, with no one left in the Magic Capital Base to prevent the Bat Monsters' plundering, they did come across the air-raid shelters where the humans were hiding while searching for treasures in the city.

Although by that time they had realized that the humans who had lived in the Magic Capital Base hadn't disappeared but were instead hiding underground, they didn't try to forcefully open the shelter doors. Instead, they left a few Bat Monsters to guard the place to prevent those hiding inside from sneaking out.

After a thorough pillaging, the Bat Monsters obtained a large amount of treasure from the Magic Capital Base. Some of these objects might not be valuable in human eyes, but the Bat Monsters knew that seemingly ordinary things could contain a significant amount of Plane Origin.

At this point, those Bat Monsters returning laden with loot gradually shifted from being wary of humans to arrogance.

After all, they believed the Blue Star Humans, despite some abilities, were all cowards; upon detecting their attack, they didn't even have the courage to fight and instead hid in the air-raid shelters underground.

However, what the Bat Monsters did not know was that due to some brainless individual in the Imperial Court making hasty plans, a large area, including the Magic Capital Base, ended up drafting individuals of high strength to the vicinity of the Plane Transmission Channel.
