Cave Refuge

Chapter 712: Pursuit and Assassination

The monster that had long been dead, once its broken body was completely repaired, surprisingly came back to life again.

Because the Officials had issued a notification to lift the alert, by now, most of the survivors willing to return to the city had already reached their homes in the Magic Capital Base. And due to this midnight disturbance, many people fell into a deep sleep as soon as they got home.

When the monster that had sunk to the bottom of the sea came back to life and stood up, it wasn't immediately discovered.

However, when it continued its approach towards the Magic Capital Base, it didn't take long before the Sentinel on duty at the base noticed this enormous creature.

Upon seeing the gigantic figure, the Sentinel immediately sounded the air raid alarms of the Magic Capital Base once again.

As the loud air raid siren lingered throughout the Magic Capital Base, many of the survivors who had just fallen asleep were forced to wake up once more.

In truth, for the majority of Martial Artists, even going without sleep for two or three days straight generally wasn't a big deal. However, to be roused from sleep so abruptly, and for it to happen twice in a row, left people utterly exhausted.

Nevertheless, as soon as the people living in the base heard the alarm go off again, they still quickly got dressed and swiftly left their homes.

Although most people were fast to react, the behemoth moved even faster. Even in the sea, each of its steps covered roughly a hundred meters.

Therefore, by the time some of the slower-moving survivors stepped outside their doors, the monster had already reached the edge of the dock of the Magic Capital Base, on the verge of landing.

As the monster approached the Magic Capital Base, the defense cannons installed near the coastline opened fire immediately.

However, even though the Close Defense Cannon could fire thousands of bullets per minute, hitting the monster with all of them seemed to inflict no substantial damage whatsoever.

To put it simply, the bullets hit the monster's body but failed to penetrate its defenses.

Upon seeing this, the members of the Guard Team immediately reported the situation to their superiors. Although the message had to be relayed through several levels, in such a crisis moment, the time each step took - including the time to make phone calls - totaled no more than a minute at most.

It was precisely because of this that, when the monster approached the dock by the coast, dozens of Missiles were launched, locked onto their target, and hurtled towards the monster's body.

Although the Officials were aware that Dong Tianyu had previously killed the monster by detonating explosives around its neck, aside from Dong Tianyu, there might not be anyone else at the Magic Capital Base capable of replicating his previous actions.

At this time, each Missile was an extremely difficult item to manufacture.

Unlike bullets, which can be made by setting up molds and manually crafted by people, you don't hear about people making Missiles at home; that's why, right now, the stock of Missiles was depleting one by one.

Yet this time, taking advantage of the dark night, the monster got close to the dock. There were still some from the Officials who suggested finding some members from the Daredevil Squad to act as bait, sacrificing their lives in order to lure the monster to another area.

But for some reason, the monster, which originally lacked intelligence, was now resolutely heading towards the Magic Capital Base.

Upon noticing that the previously unfailing tactics were ineffective, the Officials decisively played one of their trump cards, attacking the monster with Missiles directly.

Because Missiles were so scarce at the time, in order to ensure a hit rate of one hundred percent, they chose not to attack the monster's neck but instead set the Missile target on its chest.

The launch site for the Missiles was located right at the center of the Magic Capital Base, and at that moment, the sea-treading monster had already reached the waters near the dock.

So, at such close range, almost any targeted spot wouldn't miss.

Initially, half of the monster's body was underwater, so many people failed to realize just how large the monster actually was. But when the monster fully emerged from the water, those survivors who had not yet retreated from the base realized that the height of the monster must definitely exceed a hundred meters.

The walls surrounding the Magic Capital Base, over thirty meters high, did nothing to hinder the monster's movement. The monster, though capable, didn't even consider climbing over but instead delivered a hefty kick, toppling the wall completely.

At that moment, Missile after Missile launched from the base hit the monster's chest and exploded. Every explosion pushed the monster back a few steps.

As such, with the relentless barrage of fire forcing it to retreat, although the monster had coolly kicked down the constructed wall just before, it was pushed back into the sea under the unending Missile assault.

Even though it seemed like the monster was being pushed back into the water step by step by the attack of the Missiles, this consumed a significant number of Missiles in the arsenal.

As previously mentioned, at this time, remanufacturing Missiles was very difficult. So, despite the seemingly victorious engagement, pushing it back into the sea, the base was left analyzing the cost.
