Cave Refuge

Chapter 696: Surprise Attack_2

And the things that Dong Tianyu needed, happened to be what the Officials could not provide. Although the Officials not only possessed such items but probably had plenty, items as scarce as these would usually be consumed internally and were never distributed as mission rewards.

Upon realizing this, Dong Tianyu instantly thought of Leonard, whom he had sent away, and the space portal that subsequently appeared near the Magic Capital Base. When the space portal opened, unknown Otherworldly Creatures would travel through it to reach Blue Star.

Unknown meant uncertainty, suggesting both a very high ceiling and a very low floor. Just like the Mysterious Ship that appeared in the early days of the natural disaster, the creatures that initially arrived were generally not strong, but as time went on, the creatures arriving on Blue Star would likely become increasingly powerful.

As Dong Tianyu was contemplating whether to immediately return, a strong sense of impending crisis suddenly emerged within him. His Divine Sense, which usually covered only a hundred-meter radius, instantly expanded to its maximum reach. That's when he immediately spotted a bulky figure in the sky shooting toward his location at high speed.

By the time Dong Tianyu had used his Divine Sense to identify what was coming his way, his mouth had already involuntarily cursed out several beautiful quintessences of the nation's treasure.

In no more than a blink of an eye, the Missile that had entered the range of his Divine Sense had already come into view.

By this time, Dong Tianyu knew it was too late to either intercept and detonate the Missile early with his Flying Swords or command his Companion Spiritual Treasure to submerge deep beneath the water.

The Missile had already entered its dive-bombing phase, and in perhaps less than two seconds, it would be 'intimately acquainted' with Dong Tianyu.

Recognizing this situation, Dong Tianyu instantly retracted his Companion Spiritual Treasure into his Sea of Consciousness, and in the blink of an eye, his body vanished without a trace.

Just as Dong Tianyu disappeared, the Missile hit the surface of the water, exploding on contact. The moment of the explosion turned the once calm surface into a deep crater as if a bomb had exploded on land.

If Dong Tianyu had attempted to control his Companion Spiritual Treasure to dive and attempt to evade the damage from the explosion, it would have been a fanciful and foolish choice.

The Dong Tianyu who had reflexively escaped danger and hid in his Cave was only now coming back to his senses, allowing himself to reflect on the experience he'd just had.

Although Dong Tianyu did not know the model of the Missile, from its size and speed, he could roughly determine that it was definitely a short-range ship-launched Missile or at least a medium-long-range one.

And at this time, no boasting from Dong Tianyu, but humans, at least those from China, should not be able to launch Missiles. Mid to long-range Missiles are not like short-range ones, which can be launched from just any stand; they must be launched from professional silos.

The corrosion wind that appeared before the disaster had directly destroyed all the steel warships on Blue Star, aside from the Companion Spiritual Treasures, leaving nothing intact except for some submarines hidden underwater. Warships capable of launching Missiles should have been all damaged.

To say that the Missile that attempted to assassinate Dong Tianyu was launched from one of the submarines preserved since before the disaster also seemed unrealistic. Unlike Dong Tianyu's evolved Companion Spiritual Treasure, the living conditions aboard normal submarines are quite harsh. If there were a choice, hardly anyone would be willing to stay in them for long.

Moreover, whether before or after the natural disaster, these deadly weapons, submarines, were firmly controlled by the Imperial Court and would not be used unless absolutely necessary.

Thinking that even if the Imperial Court knew that he had killed Leonard, it seemed unlikely that they would use a Missile to attack him.

As embarrassing as it was to admit, Dong Tianyu was not important enough for the Officials to use Missiles for an assassination attempt.

Having clarified this point, Dong Tianyu didn't need to speculate too much about the other reasons. After a brief wait to ensure that the aftermath of the Missile explosion had dissipated, he used the Invisibility Spell, and left the Cave silently. Observing that the water had calmed once again, and recalling the direction from which the Missile had come, Dong Tianyu took off with Sword Flight straight toward it.

Zachary, flying with the speed of Sword Control, was incomparably faster than the stealth movement of the Companion Spiritual Treasure. However, even so, it took him half an hour, and he was about to give up when he finally located the target of the attack.

Once Divine Sense confirmed the target's location, Zachary then slowed down the speed of Sword Flight, gradually approaching the location of the target.

The reason Zachary slowed down the Sword Flight speed was that it was determined the missile that attacked him came from a warship that seemed very advanced, capable of long-range positioning of Zachary's location, and was definitely equipped with high-precision electronic radar.

While the Invisibility Technique could hide his form and contain his aura, if he were to fly at high speed, he would inevitably be detected by the radar, so to prevent being discovered by the enemy in advance, Zachary had to reduce the speed of Sword Flight.

When Zachary saw the warship with his own eyes, he immediately judged that the actual controller of the warship should have no relation to China, after all, since ancient times China has generally abided by the rule of not firing first.

Not to mention the other party's brand-new appearance, which did not seem to have experienced any Natural Disasters, showed that they were very likely to be Otherworldly visitors.

While Zachary was guessing that the operators inside the warship could be humanoid creatures with features very similar to humans and was about to probe with Divine Sense, he discovered that his Divine Sense was blocked outside the warship.

Perhaps also for this reason, a barrier suddenly appeared around the warship, faintly visible, completely enveloping the warship. Seeing that seemingly solid Energy Barrier, Zachary knew that the opponent was already prepared for battle.

Since that was the case, Zachary no longer held back. He took out a few Standard Flying Swords from the Storage space and began the first round of probing attacks.

As the Flying Swords charged rapidly, the Energy Barrier, which seemed solid, didn't offer the slightest resistance to the approach of the Flying Swords, which passed through the Energy Barrier without stopping and pierced into the hull of the warship.

Seeing the Flying Swords deeply embedded in the ship's body, not only did Zachary's face not show a look of success in his attack, but instead, he frowned because of the previous attack.

Despite the Flying Swords hitting the target without any hindrance, Zachary perceived that when the Flying Swords passed through the Energy Barrier, although they were not slowed down by any obstructions, they immediately lost Zachary's control the moment they entered the Energy Barrier.

Moreover, the original target selected by Zachary was not the thick hull below, but the deck guns responsible for close-quarters defense. Yet upon entering the Energy Barrier, the Flying Swords instantly changed their attack direction.

Even though the Flying Swords were now deeply embedded in the hull, that slight damage was like using a thumbtack to pierce an elephant; even if it entered the skin of the elephant, it wouldn't cause significant harm to the elephant.

Furthermore, what made Zachary somewhat speechless was that his probing with the Flying Swords must have been noticed by the enemy, but judging by the enemy's subsequent reactions, it seemed they chose to completely ignore the Flying Sword's attack.

When Zachary tried to retrieve the Flying Swords that were stuck in the ship's body, unsurprisingly, he had lost control of all those swords that had hit their target.

However, what could be confirmed from the previous probing was that the Energy Barrier wrapping the warship would not block physical attacks, and it could be surmised its actual function might be a special energy magnetic field with Special Ability.

Subsequently, Zachary took out a few more Standard Flying Swords from the Storage space. This time, however, Zachary did not just take out Flying Swords, but instead, coated the Flying Swords with a layer of C4 Explosives, which were clay-like, and then carried out another probing attempt.

The reason Zachary didn't install detonators on the C4 was that the high-speed impact of the Flying Swords when attacking was enough to reach the detonation point of the C4 Explosives; and most crucially, Zachary was unsure whether the electronic detonating devices would still function normally after passing through the Energy Barrier.
