Cave Refuge

Chapter 695: Pioneer

Dong Tianyu naturally did not know that the suspicion on him had already been cleared by the investigators, and he still honestly stayed at home, waiting for the house renovation to finish.

Once all the renovations were complete, and no one else came to cause trouble, Dong Tianyu was fairly certain that Leonard's disappearance might have nothing to do with him.

However, to ensure no further troubles, Dong Tianyu decided to register as a Pioneer at the Officials and leave Magic Capital Base for a while.

The reason Dong Tianyu chose to settle in Magic Capital Base was not only because the management model here was relatively lenient but mainly because of the status of being a Pioneer.

It was only coastal bases like Magic Capital Base that could register the status of a Pioneer with the Officials.

The role of a Pioneer is neither too great nor too small; reality is not like a game, without the corresponding status, one cannot engage in the relevant work.

Pioneers are tasked with venturing out to sea to explore the conditions abroad. After registering as a Pioneer with the corresponding government department, the Officials would issue a Sea Chart that has been drawn, then the Pioneers are responsible for exploring and supplementing the regions that haven't been charted.

Of course, such mapping and supplementation cannot be confirmed by just one Pioneer; normally, for non-dangerous areas of the Sea Chart, a hundred different Pioneer team members must submit the same Sea Chart for it to be officially confirmed, while for dangerous areas, only ten Pioneers' certification is required.

For uncharted areas of the Sea Chart, the first Pioneer to submit can receive a high reward, and subsequent Pioneers submitting the same area can also earn different rewards based on their different complements to the Sea Chart.

Moreover, those Pioneers who follow can still receive a small reward even if they only validate the completeness of the Sea Chart without providing any additional information.

To put it simply, even just by visiting all areas of the mapped Sea Chart, one can receive a modest reward from the Maritime Bureau; however, the amount of such an easy reward is not much, and the reward earned may not even surpass the value of the resources spent to go out.

Of course, this authentication isn't something you can get just by making a round trip—don't forget that China once launched satellites that are still operational in space, although they have lost the ability to monitor the entire globe, they still function to determine location.

Thus, whether it's drawing maps, adding details, or merely checking in, one needs to reach the corresponding location, or else the Maritime Bureau won't provide the matching reward.

In fact, if it's just about checking in, some people do possess the same ability to fly as Dong Tianyu, allowing them to quickly reach the designated check-in spots based on their own abilities.

But the Officials, armed with a Think Tank, will not let Pioneers find loopholes easily to claim those rewards. If checking in within the pioneering areas, there is a waiting time between each check-in, and this duration is calculated based on the average time a Companion Spiritual Treasure takes to navigate on water.

For those unexplored areas, on the other hand, there is no set check-in time, and the Maritime Bureau would actually prefer some Pioneers with the same capabilities as Dong Tianyu to quickly chart the Sea Charts of unknown areas abroad.

Since the advent of the Natural Disaster, accompanied by the expansion of Blue Star and the complete damage of the pre-disaster launched satellites, the previously drawn maps of Blue Star have become completely obsolete.

And the most critical issue is that, apart from the countries connected to China by land and some close island nations, other countries on Blue Star are completely out of contact with China.

Although the Imperial Court has not yet fully taken control of China, its prestige within far exceeds that of feudal Emperors across different dynasties, so even as a precaution, the Imperial Court needs to grasp the situation in other countries on Blue Star.

After all, the lesson of lagging behind due to cultural isolation need only be experienced once, and although it was a passive disconnection from the outer world this time, to avoid history repeating itself, the Imperial Court has assembled the Maritime Bureau amidst the still scarce domestic population, dispatching a large number of Pioneers to set sail in order to understand the latest situation of other countries.

Of course, it's not that one can't set sail without registering as a Pioneer in the Maritime Bureau. A Pioneer's status at the Maritime Bureau is like the passport needed for traveling abroad before the Natural Disaster.

Registering as a Pioneer, although the departure and return times would be recorded by the Officials, also indirectly protects some of the Pioneers' rights in the base, preventing loss of property or other items in the base due to the Pioneers' long absences.

Of course, one can still set sail without registering as a Pioneer in the Maritime Bureau; even before the Natural Disaster, those who wanted to go abroad without a passport still had many ways to do so. However, if one were to leave in this manner, the Officials would not protect the person's property security in the base.

Registering as a Pioneer in the Maritime Bureau is straightforward; one simply needs to have a household registration in Magic City, and then fill in their fixed assets and Inheritor status in the base to register easily.

The reason for listing fixed assets is for the benefit provided by the Maritime Bureau, to avoid damage and loss of property purchased within the base due to the Pioneers' prolonged absences.

Any Pioneer who follows the procedures to explore abroad and returns with contribution gains, if the fixed assets within the base are damaged during their exploratory trip, the Maritime Bureau will provide full compensation.
