Cave Refuge

Chapter 678: Paying a Visit

Since Ye Liuyun had already come looking for us, the original plan to leave without saying goodbye had to be temporarily abandoned. After all, given the relationship between the two families, unless we were to cut off contact completely, the Thompson Family ultimately couldn't just leave without acknowledgment after receiving a visit.

After discussing with his parents, it was decided to wait for another three days. If within these three days Ye Liuyun made up his mind to leave, then the Thompson Family would abandon the camp along with the Taylor family and seek refuge at the fortress established by the Imperial Court. If Ye Liuyun remained indecisive, then they would bid farewell to the Taylor family and not stay at the camp any longer.

The three days passed in a flash.

After finishing breakfast, Mr. Thompson spoke up, "It seems the young man from the Taylor family has yet to make up his mind. There's no point in waiting for him. We don't have much to pack up anyway. We might as well leave now."

Zachary and Mrs. Thompson didn't hesitate over Mr. Thompson's suggestion. Just as he said, all the slightly valuable items at home had either been stored in Zachary's Storage space or placed in the Storage Equipment owned by Mrs. Thompson, so there was no need to move with large bags and small packages as they had in the past.

Despite the decision to leave, the journey ahead was long, and unlike during the flood period, they could not rely on Companion Spiritual Treasures. Even though having a Storage space meant they could travel light, the long distance was still a cause for concern for Father Dong and Mother Dong.

However, when Mr. Thompson thought of the Flying Swords that Zachary usually employed for travel, he directly asked for confirmation, "Yu, how shall we depart this time? Can your Flying Sword carry all three of us directly?"

Hearing his father's question, Zachary considered for a moment. His Flying Sword could indeed carry three people, but his parents, who hadn't cultivated the Sword Control Technique, might endure some strong wind pressure due to the rapid flight.

But if Zachary positioned himself at the forefront to block the wind, and considering his parents had started on the path of cultivation, fast flight might have some impact on them, but ultimately it wouldn't cause any significant harm.

Despite hearing Zachary's response, Mr. Thompson noticed the hesitation on his son's face and understood that there might be some issues with directly departing through the air via Flying Swords.

Yet, although their physique had greatly improved due to cultivation, Mr. Thompson was not particularly enthusiastic about the idea of traveling on foot without any means of transportation.

A son knows his father best. Reading the expression on his father's face, Zachary could roughly guess the true thoughts within his father's heart. He thus spoke to soothe him, "Although departing by Flying Swords through the air saves time, we're actually not in a major rush. Travelling on land isn't so bad after all. Moreover, compared to enduring the relentless Gang Wind of the aerial route, travelling by land is relatively more stable and comfortable."

"Comfortable!"

Mr. Thompson had considered the idea of walking the entire way. After all, they were essentially fleeing in disguise from the camp. Once the decision to leave was made, he had already anticipated the difficulties they would face on the ground.

He had initially thought that leaving through the air would be both comfortable and convenient, but after seeing the peculiar look on Zachary's face when he suggested this, Mr. Thompson immediately understood that the aerial route was not the optimal choice.

However, regardless of the problems they might encounter with the aerial route, Mr. Thompson knew that without a vehicle, the process of leaving by land would be extremely arduous and far from the comfortable situation described by Zachary.

Nonetheless, since his son had already spoken, Mr. Thompson also believed that Zachary was not one to exaggerate, so he didn't directly contradict him. Instead, he asked seriously, "At this moment, we don't have any vehicles. Back when the floods hit, your mother swapped our bicycles for other goods because they took up too much space. Since you mentioned that travelling by land would be more comfortable, does that mean you have a vehicle in your Storage space that can be used for long travel? Do you still have a motorcycle?"

Although Mr. Thompson had seen the armored "Black Car" that Zachary had modified before the flood, he hadn't seen the vehicle since the disaster struck. After all, whether it was the Water Base established by the Imperial Court or the private boats acquired, space was incredibly scarce, and it would have been unlikely to take along an entirely useless vehicle during the flood.

Mr. Thompson was aware that Zachary had his Storage space, but he assumed that all Storage spaces were not very large in size. Although Mrs. Thompson's Companion Spiritual Treasure, after choosing the Bearing branch, had a special Storage space theoretically capable of infinite growth.

The Storage space on the Companion Spiritual Treasure need not be mentioned—initially, the largest was no more than a twenty-square-meter room, which would expand with subsequent upgrades.

And the Storage Equipment that Zachary had personally crafted and given them naturally wouldn't be too small either. Whether it was the Storage Equipment received by Mr. Thompson or that received by Mrs. Thompson, the space inside was about a hundred square meters.
