Cave Refuge

Chapter 659: The Third Realm of the Forest

Dong Tianyu had the idea of taking a detour mainly because of the Sky-Reaching Giant Tree that once grew in the center of Pengville City.

Although Dong Tianyu not only found out the tactics to attack the Sky-Reaching Giant Tree, but also dismantled it as nourishment for the Cave after the flood had receded.

But Dong Tianyu knew very well that if it hadn't been for the Natural Disaster flooding it, that Sky-Reaching Giant Tree would ultimately have perished due to the disaster—if it weren't for that, Dong Tianyu definitely wouldn't have had the ability to fell it. After all, even when Dong Tianyu initially approached the already dead Sky-Reaching Giant Tree, he still needed to devise a way due to its enormous size to get it into the Cave.

Although the Banyan Forest before him was completely different from the Sky-Reaching Giant Tree that had grown in the center of Pengville City, Dong Tianyu certainly didn't want to venture deeper unless absolutely necessary, to experience the defensive tactics of this Banyan Forest.

It was a pity that although Dong Tianyu wanted to find another route to bypass the Banyan Forest, when he used Spiritual Sense Scanning to survey his surroundings.

He reluctantly found that once he had crossed the boundary line, he was already within the Banyan Forest. Unless he retraced his steps, no matter which direction he explored, he would still end up wandering in the Banyan Forest.

Now that escape was impossible, Dong Tianyu chose not to dumbly walk into the Banyan Forest but rather took out several Flying Swords from his Storage space to directly cut off the hanging aerial roots from the banyan branches.

The reason for seeing a forest from a single tree was that, in the whole Banyan Forest, aside from the banyan trunk in the very center that was the main body, everything else that looked like 'trees' growing from the ground were actually aerial roots.

Since it was certain that there was no way to avoid the Banyan Forest, then if Dong Tianyu really didn't want to enter, the only option would be to cut down all these aerial roots.

If it weren't for the fact that starting a fire might destroy the other valuable plants in the forest, in reality, the best method would be arson. After all, one would only need to make the fire bigger—forget about the aerial roots blocking the path, even the banyan itself might likely be reduced to ashes.

Compared to using intelligence to achieve the greatest victory with the least amount of strength, Dong Tianyu preferred to use brute force to overcome all methods.

As one Flying Sword rapidly cut the aerial roots blocking Dong Tianyu's path, he looked at the scattered wood around and suddenly looked up.

The aerial roots were the bridge linking the ground to the banyan branches, and could also be considered the base supporting the banyan branches. Since the base was destroyed by Dong Tianyu's Flying Swords, the objects that the base had supported naturally lost their reason for existence. After all, the banyan branches that remained suspended and wobbly above without the base might fall at any moment.

To avoid being injured by a suddenly falling banyan branch, the simplest method was to cut them all down before they naturally fell.

As Dong Tianyu had this notion, suddenly a Flying Sword no longer moved forward but instead veered sideways, beginning to trim the banyan branches that had lost their aerial roots.

When sections of banyan branches fell to the ground and the shade blocking the sunlight gradually disappeared, sunlight started to shine onto the earth.

As the path cleared by the Flying Swords filled with dazzling sunlight, Dong Tianyu suspected why he had not encountered any new attacks.

After all, with the experience from before, anyone would know that the depths of the forest weren't safe. Yet up until now, Dong Tianyu had not encountered any danger.

The reason Dong Tianyu had not faced any danger was because he did not enter the Banyan Forest in the usual way.

The dangers within the Banyan Forest were actually Illusion Technique and Formation. As soon as someone entered into it, they could easily get lost due to the almost identical surrounding environment, plus the assistance of the Formation and the Illusion Technique.

If there were no solutions for breaking them, it is very difficult for one to exit alive.

Once inside the Banyan Forest, one is like being in a maze that can change at will. To leave it, either one must possess special path-finding techniques to navigate this maze with technical skills.

Or they could use sheer numbers; after all, the Banyan Forest might have the support of Formations and Illusion Techniques that could confuse all the survivors' senses, but if there are enough people, they can directly flatten the area.

If the two methods above are considered to be the more cultured ways to clear the maze, then the method chosen by Dong Tianyu at this moment was rather shameless.

I don't care how complicated the pathways inside the maze are, I only need to pick one direction. Even if there is no path ahead and it's blocked by walls, I will dig out everything in the way and create a new path.

If this was some kind of maze game, maybe due to the walls being indestructible, one could only choose the first two methods to solve the maze. But since this is reality and there is not enough power otherwise, since Dong Tianyu possesses such strength, he naturally chooses the simplest solution.

With continuous progress along the route, Dong Tianyu quickly arrived at the center of the Banyan Forest, which was the area where the banyan's main body was located.

Looking at the thick trunk that would take twenty or thirty people to encircle, Dong Tianyu didn't have any immediate thoughts of addressing it.
