Chapter 647: Torrential Rain and Hailstorms
With the arrival of the first Thunder Dragon descending upon the Mortal World, thereafter, they came one after another, streaming toward the ground like dumplings being dropped into a pot. Each time a Thunder Dragon descended, it would bring no small amount of destruction to the ground.
If the Thunder Dragons had simply struck the ground, it might have been okay, but in the densely packed camp site, there were always some unfortunate buildings that would make intimate contact with a Thunder Dragon. Although all the buildings had strong defenses, every intimate encounter with a Thunder Dragon would still cause numerous stones to crumble from the tops.
Fortunately, most of the buildings in the camp now had two or three stories, so even if the topmost level sustained an attack from a Thunder Dragon, it wouldn't cause significant harm to the survivors. After all, no one was foolish enough to stay on the top floors when they knew they could be struck by Thunder Dragons; everyone wisely took shelter on the ground floor.
After an unknown duration of enduring what seemed like the wrath of the heavens, the thunderous onslaught finally began to subside. With the Thunder Dragons no longer appearing, drop by drop, rain began to gently fall from the sky.
When some survivors in the camp noticed the thunder fading from outside and curiously stepped out of their doors, they saw raindrops persistently showering down on the Mortal World. As some started to enjoy the misty ambiance of the light rain, the raindrops falling from the sky gradually increased in size.
Before some people could react, the rain showered down like heavenly buckets, the once hazy light rain instantly transforming into gushing waterfalls. Those survivors caught outside without time to take cover felt a hint of pain as the heavy drops struck them.
Accompanying the torrential downpour, the most likely disaster to occur was flooding. When the floods first began, they were preceded by several days of fierce wind and heavy rainfall.
So, Mr. Thompson, peering through an observation window and seeing the downpour, asked Dong Tianyu with some concern, "Zachary, this rainfall looks to be as heavy as it was on the eve of the flood disaster. Do you think if this level of rain continues for several days, the floods will reappear?"
Dong Tianyu didn't quite agree with his father's worrisome thoughts, "Based on the weather conditions just now, despite the heavy rain outside, I don't think it will last very long."
Hearing Dong Tianyu's response, Mr. Thompson quickly pressed, "What do you mean, why do you think the rain won't last long?"
Seeing the concerned look still on Mr. Thompson's face, Dong Tianyu calmly reassured, "Dad, the period of flooding has passed. Even with the rain pouring down heavily now, I suspect at most we'll see some waterlogging in the camp, but it's impossible for floods that submerged the land like before to occur again."
With the integration of Awakeners, drainage was taken into consideration during the construction of the camp. Thanks to the special abilities of the Awakeners, the drainage system in the camp was built akin to the large underground passageways of the Eagle Sauce Family, where one could walk underground, unlike the storm drains in China's cities.
Because of the construction of these large underground passageways, it was difficult for the camp to experience waterlogging under normal circumstances. Even with the current rainfall resembling waterfalls, as long as it didn't last long, it was highly unlikely there would be waterlogging in the camp.
Sadly, the best-laid plans of men often go awry. The sudden change in weather, with rainfall exceeding the expectations of ordinary people, combined with the chaos brought by the strong winds and lightning strikes, caused various debris to be swept onto the streets. With the assault of the torrential rain, the drainage holes on the sides of the camp roads soon became blocked with litter.
Though not all the drainage holes in the camp had been clogged, even those that were partially open became semi-blocked with trash. Eventually, water began pooling on the ground, and the water level continued to rise.
Worried about the recurrence of a flood disaster, Mr. Thompson stood in front of the window, his gaze fixed on the scene outside, despite the rain obscuring the distant view.
It was for this reason that Mr. Thompson was the first to notice the rising water levels on the ground. Just as he was about to express concern, he suddenly remembered they were inside Dong Tianyu's Companion Spiritual Treasure, which had the ability to submerge. Therefore, even if a flood as catastrophic as before were to engulf the land, it would not impact them significantly.
Upon realising this, Mr. Thompson gradually let go of his worry and instead began to comfort Mrs. Thompson, standing by his side.
At that moment, Dong Tianyu had a clearer understanding of the situation outside than Mr. Thompson, as the rainfall from the sky was mere ordinary water, which could not affect Divine Sense. Thus, Dong Tianyu naturally used his Divine Sense to observe the conditions in other areas of the camp.
By this time, there was no one wandering outside in the camp; everyone had taken refuge in their own homes. However, the homes that should have been safe havens for the survivors, having faced the ravages of the wind breaking windows and lightning splitting roofs, were now unfortunate abodes. Not only were the windows letting in draughts, but some houses that had suffered intimate contact with lightning now had rooftops that were leaking rain.
Window leaks could be temporarily managed by covering them up, and the cracks caused by lightning on the rooftops weren't too large, so even with leaks, not much rain was coming through – it was more of an annoyance than anything else.
