Cave Refuge

Chapter 601: Experimental Guinea Pig

"Hello, my name is Leo King. May I ask if you are a member of the Flower Planting Family?"

"Indeed, I am."

Hearing Zachary's response in Mandarin, the originally tense expressions of everyone on-site relaxed at once, and then they fixed their gaze on Zachary with considerably warmer eyes.

"Comrade, did you come from the Rabbit Zoo? What brings you here?"

Although Zachary had observed that there weren't many survivors with a military demeanor like Leo King on the ship, the others remained silent as if trained not to chirp in abruptly.

"I've come from the Rabbit's side, and I do have some matters to address. I'm here to find someone."

When they heard that Zachary had come to find someone, the people on-site assumed he had come specifically to pick someone up to leave, causing their expressions to turn somewhat excited, but still, no one interjected.

However, Leo King discerned another implication in Zachary's words, so he directly invited, "If it's convenient, let's go inside and sit down to talk."

Hearing Leo King's invitation, Zachary immediately nodded in agreement.

Following Leo King, Zachary entered the ship's cabin, and once a group had entered a room resembling a Conference Room, Leo King instructed the man behind him, "Bring out my treasured tea leaves and brew a pot of tea."

The man displayed a surprised look upon hearing Leo King's order, but said nothing further and left the room shortly afterward.

After the young man left the room, only Zachary and Leo King remained, and it was then that Leo King asked with a serious tone, "Could you tell me whom you're looking for here?"

Seeing Leo King's expression, Zachary knew that Leo King must have his own theories, so he cut to the chase and explained his intentions:

"I managed to acquire the Awakened Potion from the aircraft carrier that the fleet you're following used, but I've never used it myself, so this time I've come to find a volunteer for the experiment."

Although Leo King heard that Zachary had come looking for a test subject for the experiment, he did not get angry. Since they had once been aboard that fleet, they must have heard some intelligence about the Superhumans.

Thus, Leo King understood very well that although volunteering as a test subject could be life-threatening, there was also a chance of gaining Super Abilities like those Superhumans on the aircraft carrier.

With the advent of the natural disaster, it was possible for everyone to face danger at any time, so Zachary's proposal to find a volunteer for the experiment seemed risky but was quite likely an opportunity.

While acknowledging that the experiment might indeed be dangerous, the likelihood was slim; after all, what Zachary had gotten hold of was a finished Potion.

There were already so many Superhumans on the aircraft carrier, indicating a mature and stable manufacturing process; the chances of obtaining Super Abilities after taking the Potion should be high.

Seeing how forthright Zachary was and hearing from him about the source of the Potion, Leo King hesitated for a moment.

Observing Leo King's hesitant expression, Zachary thought he might be reluctant to provide a test subject, so he stated his terms straightaway, "If you help me find a volunteer, I am willing to offer some supplies as compensation for the trial."

Upon hearing about the compensation for the volunteer, Leo King immediately guessed that Zachary, noticing his hesitation, had decided to offer it.

Although it seemed like Leo King was getting a better deal, the nature of the transaction changed, and Leo King, not being one to take undue advantage, promptly waved his hands and said,

"No, you might have misunderstood. My hesitation wasn't about getting compensation; I was uncertain about whether to let my nephew be the test subject."

At Leo King's disclosure, a look of surprise crossed Zachary's face.

Seeing Zachary's reaction, Leo King stated his thoughts candidly, "I believe the Potion you provided can indeed awaken Super Abilities in a person,

but I don't know if using this Potion guarantees a one hundred percent chance of awakening Super Abilities, and whether a failure would cause any physical harm.

I won't lie to you: recommending my nephew is also a selfish move on my part. I want him to succeed in getting Super Abilities but don't want him to suffer the consequences of a failed trial. Am I too greedy?"

Hearing Leo King's words, Zachary instantly understood Leo King's thoughts, then asked, "May I be so bold to ask why your nephew is with you?"

Leo King didn't conceal anything in response to Zachary's inquiry, "Before the natural disaster, my unit sent me on a business trip here. My nephew had just started his vacation, and we get along well, so when he heard about my trip, he insisted on joining me for a trip abroad.

Since the work wasn't heavy and I had some free time, I agreed, never expecting something like this to happen. After getting his parents' consent, I brought him along.

But who could have known that we would encounter a natural disaster not long after our arrival? Thankfully, our lodging was close to the Flower Planting Family's embassy, so we quickly took refuge there when disaster struck."

After listening to Leo King's brief narrative of their experiences, Zachary felt an even greater empathy for Leo King's current mood. However, empathizing was one thing; Zachary certainly wouldn't provide a second Awakened Potion for another trial after a successful experiment.
