Cave Refuge

Chapter 566: Battle for the Deck

After gathering a dozen or so people, the members of the New Faction no longer acted as the brave pioneers as they once did, but instead, they drove those slaves captured from the ships of the Old Faction members to go first.

In fact, these New Faction members were originally slaves on the ships of the Old Faction, but because they harbored a desire to overpower their masters, they were able to successfully revolt due to sheer luck.

Logically, they should have had empathy for those servants and slaves, since they used to be in the same category.

Unfortunately, when young Brave Warriors became Evil Dragons, their fierceness far surpassed that of the original Evil Dragon.

After experiencing a comfortable life, those once fearless members of the New Faction also became much more concerned about preserving their own lives.

Unlike the Old Faction members who would set up the Daredevil Squad as the vanguard and at least provide them with weapons, when these New Faction members were in charge, they arranged for the slave servants to engage in combat without furnishing them with any weapons, letting them fight barehanded.

Though they did not distribute weapons to outsiders, they had learned the Old Faction members' skill of making empty promises to the slave servants.

First, they would tell them about their own origins, the same as the Daredevil Squad, and then they would start constantly making grand promises.

They assured them very solemnly that if they could successfully capture the large ship this time, they would receive substantial rewards.

After inspiring their spirits, a dozen Companion Spiritual Treasures approached the large ship, and the numb slaves began to climb aboard using the ropes hooked to the deck.

As an ancient Noble Clan, the large ship had not only servants for daily services but also a Guard Squad specifically for defending the ship.

Compared to the barehanded Daredevil Squad, the members of the Guard Squad were all equipped with firearms.

While the legitimate line of the Noble Clans focused on Cultivation, they did not abandon firearms; upon truly understanding East Asian culture, they realized that although it is relatively feudalistic, such feudal ideas were only directed towards others.

These ideas mainly served to constrain the thoughts of the lower classes and to cage their minds, whereas for them, almost nothing was taboo since they held the power of interpretation. Even if they violated some rule, they could always find a way to justify it.

Of course, the Guard Squad would not easily use firearms, as ammunition was extremely precious at the time, and each bullet used was one less in their stockpile. Thus, they would avoid using firearms wherever possible.

Watching the slaves climbing up the ropes, the members of the Guard Squad didn't even use their katanas, but simply kicked those who were about to reach the deck, sending them flying back.

Compared to the robust members of the Guard Squad, the slaves, thin and feeble due to malnutrition, could not withstand the attacks of the Guard Squad. So it was like a whack-a-mole game, with each slave attempting to board being kicked away.

However, even though the Guard Squad members were strong and had plenty of food daily, the number of Daredevil Squad members was just too great, as they had gathered slaves from a dozen ships.

So, as time passed, the members of the Guard Squad gradually became worn out. Sensing this, the Captain of the Guard Squad immediately drew his firearm. As the Guard Squad Captain began to shoot, other members also started using their firearms, killing those Daredevil Squad members about to board the deck.

The New Faction members, hearing the gunfire from the deck, gripped their firearms tightly.

Their firearms had been seized from the Old Faction members, and although they had activated their Sea of Consciousness using the Mysterious Core and obtained Companion Spiritual Treasures, they fundamentally had not practiced any Cultivation Techniques.

Merely because they had activated their Sea of Consciousness with the Mysterious Core, their rate of passively absorbing Spirit Energy was higher than other ordinary unpracticed individuals, and as a result, their physical condition was stronger than that of ordinary people.

However, when compared to Martial Artists, they were still far inferior, even inferior to those in the Body Tempering Realm.

Thus, compared to cultivators with high Cultivation Levels who could disregard firearms, even small-caliber handguns were deadly dangerous for them.

Initially, when the New Faction members had nothing, they were willing to risk their lives fighting against the Old Faction members armed with firearms. But now, having enjoyed the luxurious life that victory brought, they had lost the daring spirit they once had.

Many of them already knew before their attack that there would definitely be firearms on the target ship, and according to their experience from previously raiding large ships, there should be a considerable number of firearms on board.

But at this moment, having numerous firearms did not equate to being powerful, since firearms required people to operate them. Now, due to food restrictions, each ship was generally not fully staffed.

Having gathered so many Daredevil Squad members, even if it was just a war of attrition, they could overpower the members of the Guard Squad armed with guns.
