Cave Refuge

Chapter 547: Underwater Lair_2

The space where the flag was located was not the usual living space of Canary but was similar to the Realm of the Undead opened by Dong Tianyu, being an independent space Dong Tianyu had specifically split from his Cave.

These independent spaces were not large, and their primary use was to store those unknown objects that couldn't be placed into the Storage space but whose danger level remained uncertain.

Seeing the flag in the independent space shake violently, Dong Tianyu did not pay it any more attention. After all, once something entered his Cave, it became his property. Although the Cave might not restrict everything, he believed that the flag should be unable to escape from his Cave.

After the Flying Swords delivered the flag into the Cave, the body of the fallen Fishman Priest unexpectedly began shaking just like the flag, and the Eerie Fog that originally sewed the wound with a dark green color began to dissipate from the wound that had reopened.

As the dark green mist continued to stream out of the Fishman Priest's body, his body rapidly shriveled, as though losing all its moisture.

Although the Fishman Priest was already dead, Fishmen continued to climb onto the shore from the lake incessantly and, as usual, quickly grew by absorbing the eerie mist in the air.

However, in the absence of replenishment from the flag, the concentration of eerie mist in the air plunged as the young Fishmen kept drawing it in.

Once the last trace of eerie mist was consumed by those Fishmen Spawn, those emerging from the lake could no longer rapidly grow to adulthood.

The Fierce Ghosts from the Hundred Ghosts Banner, resembling diners at a buffet of flowing water, camped by the shore and devoured the souls of any Fishmen Spawn that appeared immediately.

Dong Tianyu flew to the altar on Lake Heart Island with Sword Control, and after checking repeatedly, confirmed that the altar was just an ordinary one built of corpses, with no special abilities.

Nevertheless, Dong Tianyu still placed it into his Storage space. Although it held no special use, bringing it back could still add some White Bone Essence to the White Bone Banner.

After tilling Lake Heart Island to a depth of three feet and confirming that nothing was left, Dong Tianyu used his Divine Sense to probe under the water because, until now, Fishmen Spawn were still continuously moving from the lake to the shore.

The volume of this small lake was finite, and even if the lake were devoid of water and filled entirely with Fishmen Spawn, all of them should have made it to the shore by now, according to this situation.

As soon as the Divine Sense entered the water, to his surprise, Dong Tianyu found no living creatures under the clear surface. Only when the Divine Sense probed down to the bottom did Dong Tianyu see the Fishmen Spawn swimming towards the shore.

Following the opposite direction from which the Fishmen Spawn were coming from, Dong Tianyu discovered a massive lair underwater. Although he was somewhat puzzled about why the Fishmen would construct a nest out of wood at the bottom of the water,

seeing the endless stream of Fishmen Spawn emerging from the nest, Dong Tianyu felt that his earlier notion, which defied logic, might indeed have been somewhat naive.

Using Spirit Power, Dong Tianyu activated the Hundred Ghosts Banner in his hand. The Fierce Ghosts, which had been waiting patiently by the shore, plunged straight into the water. They moved towards the location of the underwater lair, devouring Fishmen Spawn they encountered along the way.

The fact that the Fierce Ghosts were positioned on the shore did not mean they couldn't enter the water. After all, Fierce Ghosts were Spiritual Bodies, and ordinary solid materials usually had no effect on them.

Unless the water contained other special energies or came from a special source, it generally had no effect on the Spiritual Body.

When the Hundred Ghosts reached near the Fishmen Lair at the lake bed, it was like dining at a buffet. The Fierce Ghosts squatting outside the Fishmen lair immediately devoured the souls of any Fishmen Spawn they saw leaving.

In a short period of time, the area outside the Fishmen Lair was surrounded by a circle of Fishmen Spawn corpses.

Seeing that the total volume of these Fishmen Spawn corpses far exceeded that of the underwater lair at this moment, Dong Tianyu didn't know what to say.

However, although this lair worked like a game's spawn point and seemed to offer an unlimited supply of souls needed for the Hundred Ghosts Banner to level up, Dong Tianyu noticed that the souls within the Fishmen Spawn were of extremely low quality, even worse than those of the livestock raised in the Cave, barely on par with the quality of souls of domestic poultry such as chickens, ducks, and geese.

Logically speaking, having souls equivalent to those of domestic poultry wasn't too bad, particularly since Dong Tianyu was essentially getting them for free without any cost; therefore, any soul was a gain, not a loss.

However, for the Hundred Ghosts Banner to achieve any substantial improvement, it would take a long time, and Dong Tianyu did not have such an extended period to waste here.

Therefore, Dong Tianyu decided to forcefully dismantle this underwater lair to see if there was anything that could catch his eye.

Dismantling such a large lair with Flying Swords, while not impossible due to their sharpness, seemed a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Dong Tianyu directly employed the Surging Waves and Tide technique of the Water System Path, causing the waters at the bottom of the lake to become tumultuous. Observing the continuously shaking but still intact Fishmen Lair, Dong Tianyu released several consecutive Water Blade Impacts at it.

Although he cast these techniques from the shore, they still retained formidable lethality underwater, and since the blades were formed from the lake water itself, the Water Blades were completely merged with the lake, sharing the same color.

If not for his Divine Sense detecting numerous cracks suddenly appearing above the underwater lair, Dong Tianyu might have thought he had failed to cast any spells.

The Surging Waves and Tide technique could cause significant damage to boats on the surface, but its impact on the submerged structure was limited, and once the spell's duration ended,

the damage the Surging Waves and Tide caused to the underwater lair was not as great as the few casual Water Blade Impacts that followed.

Dong Tianyu also had not anticipated this outcome, thinking that with the world now submerged, the power of Water System Magic would surely far outstrip that of both Earth System and Fire System. As a result, he had spent some Survival Points to learn some Water System techniques in the Scripture Hall.

Under normal circumstances, damaging buildings and altering terrain would be the specialty of Earth System Path Techniques.

If he had known he would encounter this situation, not to mention learning Earth Crack from the Earth System Path Techniques, he would not have hesitated, even if it meant spending more Survival Points to learn Landslide Earth Crack.

But at this point, it was too late to go back to Scripture Hall to learn, and since Water Blade Impact was effective, he decided to release it a few more times. After all, as a Basic Path Technique, the consumption of Spirit Power per use was not significant.

Even with consecutive Water Blade Impacts, Dong Tianyu did not feel much pressure.

As Dong Tianyu attacked with relentless Water Blade Impacts, the underwater lair began collapsing, its exterior crumbling bit by bit. More and more Fishmen Spawn crazily swam in the direction of the attacking Water Blades, attempting to use their bodies to shield the lair from his assault.

But the bodies of the Fishmen Spawn were far too fragile, and despite their best efforts to shield against the skills with their bodies, the Water Blade Impacts continued to slash through four or five at a time, still severely damaging the underwater lair.

The underwater lair gradually disintegrated under the campaign of Water Blade Impacts, and as the lair collapsed, the Fishmen Spawn that were continuously spawning finally began to dwindle.

When the Fishmen Spawn stopped appearing, Dong Tianyu directed the surrounding Fierce Ghosts to clean up the battlefield as he looked upon the collapsed and shattered remains of the underwater lair.

Dong Tianyu wanted to know what the core of the underwater lair was and why it could continuously produce Fishmen Spawn.

If he could actually find this core and exploit it strategically, then Dong Tianyu would have something that could refresh the materials for the Three Flags endlessly.
