Chapter 47 A Family_1
After pressing on the main door outside the L-shaped area, the Thompson family also made adjustments on this side.
A small area near the main door was left as a playground for the younger generation, and then family compartments were set up on both sides of the corridor.
Looking at the rooms that were partitioned with thin plywood and cloth curtains as doors, besides blocking the view, if a person spoke slightly louder inside, the others in the adjacent rooms could clearly hear them.
The farthest corner of the L-shaped corridor, where it turns, was a storage area, where the food that each family brought when they moved in was stored. There were several round tables outside the warehouse, which were used for family dinners.
For the past two months, the food stored in the warehouse had barely been touched. After all, the Refuge Center was a transit station responsible for distributing food to surrounding shelters.
So, although they could not enjoy big meals as they did before entering the refuge, it was still possible for all the refuge residents to eat to their fill.
That being said, the Thompson family, despite bringing lots of food when they checked into the refuge, had barely used any up until now.
Father Thompson and Mother Thompson resided near the warehouse, which was the safest place in the L-shaped corridor.
Based on seniority, Father Dong and Mother Dong should not have been allocated this place.
But in terms of logic, it was rightfully theirs. After all, not to mention the early warning from Mr. Thompson, Dong Tianyu had prepared a lot for the relatives, which made it reasonable to assign them this location.
In fact, another reason Father Thompson and Mother Thompson got this place was to take care of Griffin Benjamin, Mother Thompson's father.
Dong Tianyu's grandparents had long passed away, and the grandmother also left many years ago, so in the elder generation, there was only Griffin Benjamin left.
It should be noted that Griffin Benjamin was just Mr. Thompson's father-in-law, and had no blood relation to the brothers, so the brothers of Mr. Thompson had no obligation to care for him.
As for Mother Thompson's elder sister, she had several grandchildren to look after. Her second sister had some mental issues and seemed no better than a child in the eyes of her two elder sisters.
So, the responsibility of taking care of Griffin Benjamin fell on Mother Thompson.
She was mentally unstable due to a trauma, and her unusual behavior often irritated Griffin Benjamin. However, she was not only able to take care of herself but also assist in caring for Griffin Benjamin.
Despite Griffin Benjamin's old age, he was fairly healthy and could take strolls by himself, so it wasn't as exhausting for Mother Thompson to take care of him as one might think.
Mr. Thompson took Dong Tianyu into a room and said to him, "This is where your mom and I stay. Put down your backpack first. You're dressed so heavily, don't you feel hot? Do you want to take it off?"
He didn't mention changing clothes because after Dong Tianyu moved out to live alone, he only left some casual clothes at home, which he didn't bring when they moved to the refuge.
Furthermore, Dong Tianyu's body shaped differed significantly from Mr. Thompson's. He couldn't fit into his father's clothes, so if Dong Tianyu felt hot, he could only take off his clothes to cool down.
Hearing what Mr. Thompson said, Dong Tianyu thought for a moment. Although his space suit was heavy, he had only a magic artifact gown underneath, and taking it off would require explanation.
Moreover, the spacesuit was quite cumbersome to put on and take off. After careful consideration, he believed it would be better to keep it on, despite the slight inconvenience.
Dong Tianyu took off his backpack, casually placed it in a corner, and patted his heavy spacesuit, "Dad, it's a bit complicated to put on and take off this thing. I'll just keep it on. By the way, where's mom?"
"Your mom's at your grandfather's place. I thought to have you put down your stuff in our room first, and then take you to see your grandfather."
After saying this, he took Dong Tianyu to the room next door. Mrs. Thompson, who was in the room then, had already heard the conversation between her husband and son from next door, so she was attentively watching the door curtain.
When Mr. Thompson and Dong Tianyu pushed open the door curtain and entered the room, Mrs. Thompson couldn't wait to rise and walk over to her son, carefully looking at him.
However, Mrs. Thompson just seemed a bit excited and didn't get emotional with tears streaming down their faces, a common scene in dramas.
It's reasonable to think of it in terms of the fact that mother and son had been separated for merely two months. Even though they had lost contact during this time, they did know each other's whereabouts before parting. So, even though they missed each other a lot, they were not worried.
When Griffffing Benjamin saw Dong Tianyu entering the room, a smile spread across his face. With an old man's typical slow speech, he asked Dong Tianyu, "Tianyu, you're here. How's work? Remember to be safe out there!"
Hearing his grandfather's voice, Dong Tianyu moved his mother to the bedside and gently said to Griffin Benjamin, "Grandpa, I came to see you. I've been busy recently and had to stay at the workplace, that's why I couldn't come to see you."
Dong Tianyu understood very well that when the old man asked him questions, he didn't really need a detailed answer; he just wanted to chat with him.
Therefore, Dong Tianyu just picked the most positive parts to share with his grandpa. After they chatted for awhile, Griffin Benjamin looked a bit tired. He said to Mrs. Thompson next to the bed, "You can go now, I want to lie down for a while, no need for you to stay here."
Hearing her father saying this, Mrs. Thompson helped Griffin Benjamin get settled on the bed and tucked him in, then the family of three returned to their own room.
The room was about ten square meters, with a widened lower bunk on one side near the wall on which clothes were neatly folded and hung, and in the corner stood a folding table with stools. There wasn't much else in the room.
Looking at the bare room, Dong Tianyu wanted to suggest that his parents leave with him. But before he could voice his thought, Mr. Thompson whispered, "Even though your grandpa is still fit, your mother won't feel relieved if we leave him here. So your mother and I decided to stay here.
Although it was uncomfortable when we first arrived, we slowly adapted to it after living here for such a long time. Besides, although I'm not in charge, my words do carry some weight here.
So, let me indulge in my vanity and pretend to be an official for a few more years. When I no longer want to play this role, your mother and I will come to live with you."
Mr. Thompson said that they didn't have a desire to leave because he wanted to experience the feeling of being an official, yet Dong Tianyu knew the real reason was that Mr. Thompson didn't want to cause worry for Mrs. Thompson concerning Griffin Benjamin.
Therefore, Mr. Thompson's plans to live with Dong Tianyu in a few years were actually quite simple. Despite being blunt, every person clearly understood the implications.
