Chapter 29: Start Hitting Someone_1
As a transit cargo yard, there must be a sizable storage and warehouse area here.
Perhaps as a result of the electromagnetic pulse, some warehouse doors were half closed, and some weren't closed at all.
Unlike the precious storage spaces in the Black Tortoise Market, the warehouses here are large structures made from steel. Without exaggeration, even two eighteen meter semi-trucks could comfortably be backed in side by side, underscoring just how wide and tall the doorways are.
Under normal circumstances, it would be difficult to open these massive doors manually, hence, they are mostly automatic. However, these doors were essentially scrapped after the electromagnetic pulse.
Luckily, these larger doors are equipped with smaller doors for ease of human access. The locks on these smaller doors are of the pedestrian variety. With a regular patrol and 24-hour surveillance, safety could essentially be guaranteed under normal circumstances.
However, at this juncture, most of the regular patrollers had fled to the underground shelters established by the Officials due to the cold weather, which had made the locks on the doors brittle and fragile.
Dong Tianyu, who had reached the third level of Qi refinement, could use an iron poker to break the locks on the doors by applying force, followed by a little shake of the door to unlock it.
Upon opening the first warehouse, Dong Tianyu was greeted with rows of household appliances stacked on pallets. Without a second thought, he knew these items must have been exposed to the electromagnetic pulse and were now unusable.
With this in mind, Dong Tianyu swiftly began to clean up the warehouse.
Thanks to prior practice, he was able to clean this warehouse thoroughly within just a few minutes.
Looking at the vacant warehouse, Dong Tianyu felt quite pleased with his speed and efficiency.
The second warehouse contained stacks of iron bars. Just by eyeing the pallet of pure iron at the bottom, it was clear that each pallet was extremely heavy, with each likely weighing several tons under normal circumstances.
After observing piles upon piles of stacked pallets in the warehouse, Dong Tianyu was confident that the haul from just this warehouse alone would surpass the entirety of the previous day's efforts.
Even though each iron bar pallet was extremely heavy, the time it took to clear out this warehouse was no longer than it took to clear the previous one.
This was because no matter the weight of the pallet, it was not a factor when using the Shadow Space to store them.
After tidying up the second warehouse, Dong Tianyu proceeded to clean up the remaining warehouses in order.
There were a total of twenty-three warehouses in the transit area of the cargo station. Eighteen of them had items stored within, excluding the appliances and iron ores in the first and second warehouses.
The rest of the warehouses primarily stored various metal products or basic materials such as timber.
Surprisingly, one warehouse was full of fertilizer.
Dong Tianyu wasn't familiar with the shelf life of fertilizers or whether its shelf life could be extended like food in a refrigerator.
However, it was pointless to leave them here since no one would be cultivating any land and have use for these fertilizers in the coming years. Hence, Dong Tianyu promptly sent them to his cave mansion to be decomposed and absorbed.
Dong Tianyu didn't expect that by decomposing and absorbing a whole warehouse full of fertilizers, the growth rate of the plants within his cave mansion would be marginally accelerated.
When using the primary absorption method for regular items, these items do not disappear straight away. Instead, they become the foundation for the cave mansion and are stored in various parts of it.
For instance, metal products would be transformed into their original ore form upon absorption. They are then absorbed by the earth's veins within the mansion. Consequently, Dong Tianyu's full day of absorbing cars not only reduced the survival points needed to upgrade the cave mansion, but also significantly increased the reserve of metal ores within the earth veins.
Tody's looting from the cargo yard has made the ore resources in the earth's veins even richer.
Once he finished tidying up the warehouses, Dong Tianyu didn't leave immediately but proceed into the Transfer Center.
Dong Tianyu found it hard to believe that he could make such a gain from a transit warehouse.
Originally, his objective wasn't the items in the warehouses. What attracted Dong Tianyu were the alloy-made train carriages awaiting loading at the Transfer Center.
Upon entering the Transfer Center, Dong Tianyu noted the presence of over twenty dedicated train carriages, most of which were filled with goods.
It would seem that this place had been quite busy, otherwise, they wouldn't have filled so many carriages.
While Dong Tianyu was busy as a bee in the transit cargo station, problems arose at the Official's Shelter where the Thompson's family was.
As Dong Tianyu had predicted, unlike the Ren Shelter where the population was stable, residents of the subway line shelter could leave freely at any time via the subway line.
Furthermore, the requirements for staying at this shelter were much more relaxed compared to other shelters, leading to a worse security situation.
A high mobility of residents, coupled with a mixed quality of individuals, resulted in no significant chaos, but petty theft was frequent.
Without a doubt, the best area in the subway line shelter was the control room which was occupied by the Officials. When the shelters started functioning properly, not only the original street members were stationed there, but several members from the Sixth Door were also assigned to guard the place.
Beyond this, the best location was the U-shaped area occupied by the Thompson's family. Fortunately, thanks to the gate that was installed early on, the chaos outside was kept separate from the U-shaped area.
However, because of the presence of the gate, others started to envy them, and dark rumors began to circulate.
Luckily, several members of the Thompson family, including Mr. Thompson, actively participated in managing the shelter, which helped to avoid upper-level pressure.
As for the rumors and gossips, the Thompson family's most direct approach was to fight. They would capture the spreaders of the rumors and trace their sources.
At first, this matter becomes quite intense. In peacetime, any physical conflict would be hugely magnified. But now, any fight initiated by the Thompson family would result in those individuals being expelled from the shelter.
The first person who was caught continued to argue but Dong Tianyu's brothers-in-law did not need his confession. Soon after his capture, they started beating him directly until he was knocked out. It was only after a while that he came to and started to call for help.
At this point, several onlookers wanted to intervene, but Haiyang, who stayed on the sideline without participating in the fight, flicked his short stick and it instantly extended into a long, metallic rod.
"We don't need anyone else interfering with our family business. If you insist on getting involved, I'll take it as you being in cahoots with them, and well, then we'd need to have a 'proper discussion'."
Haiyang's words caused those who were about to confront them to instinctively step back. Some turned and went to find the Sixth Door, who was overseeing this area.
