Cave Refuge

To say that Kyle has no talent would be an overstatement. Compared to others, his family's connections and his own abilities allowed him to secure a prominent position at a relatively young age, a position others might not even be able to reach in a lifetime.

The watermelon on the table, albeit rare these days, was not something he had never seen before. Even in the last two years when natural disasters occurred, he happened to be in charge of the seed breeding department. Although he couldn't blatantly bring home the produce from the experimental fields, he had eaten his fair share within their department.

He didn't know who brought the watermelon laid out on the table, but when he saw Ye Liuyun acting like he had never seen such luxury before, Kyle didn't miss the opportunity to taunt him a few times.

However, upon hearing Ye Liuyun's bold retort a moment ago, Kyle turned his attention away and ignored him, knowing from his response that if he continued to antagonize him, Ye Liuyun would fully stand against him.

Noticing that the annoying Kyle turned his face away, Ye Liuyun continued his conversation with Dong Tianyu. "You've got some good tricks up your sleeve, managing to get a watermelon at this time. Is there more? I'd like to take one home to indulge myself."

Although the conversation between Ye Liuyun and Dong Tianyu wasn't loud, after all they were all sitting close by at the dining table. Upon hearing that the watermelon on the table was brought by Dong Tianyu, everyone's eyes shifted towards him.

Feeling suddenly at the center of attention, Dong Tianyu felt a bit awkward and took a sip of wine unconsciously to calm himself. Then, he answered honestly, "This watermelon was something I got quite by accident. I've been trying for a while but couldn't find the source. So, I'm unable to fulfill your purchasing request."

Seeing Dong Tianyu shrug with a helpless expression, Ye Liuyun knew he was lying. However, with so many people present, this was not an appropriate place to discuss such matters. Therefore, Ye Liuyun kept quiet, planning to talk more at another time when they were alone.

At this point, Dong Tianyu didn't want to continue the conversation with Ye Liuyun, fearing that he might accidentally reveal something which could turn into trouble in the future.

Looking at the person next to him eating swiftly yet elegantly, Dong Tianyu wondered if engaging him in conversation might disrupt his eating rhythm.

Maybe because Dong Tianyu had been staring at him for quite a while, the other man slowed his eating pace and asked out of curiosity, "Is there something going on?"

Since they had introduced themselves before the meal started, Dong Tianyu knew this person was Henry, the youngest son of Thomas.

Henry was rather well-known, not for his talents, but for his small size and light weight at birth.

When others held him, they always felt as if they were holding a feather, hence the name Henry. But, despite Henry's small stature, he had quite an appetite. Despite eating so much, his body showed no signs of change.

When he was brought to the Hospital, no health issues were found. But compared to others his age, Henry looked like he had been malnourished for a long time. This would be seen as frail and charming in a woman, but on a man, there was no nice way to describe his appearance.

Hearing Henry's inquiry, Dong Tianyu was at a loss for words. How could he ever say; I wanted to chat with you simply because I didn't want to interact with Ye Liuyun.

If he said that he would not only offend Henry but also Ye Liuyun.

Seeing that Dong Tianyu didn't respond, Henry gave him a weird glance before speeding up his eating again. He rarely had an opportunity to eat such good food at home, and with him being there, there wouldn't be any leftovers on the table.

Everyone else at the table had been chatting joyously. But with Henry clearing plates at such speed, everyone else started to eat their dishes too, despite their powerful positions in West City District.

To get any one of the dishes on the table, they would normally have to pay a high price. Without making any significant sacrifices, they couldn't possibly put together a feast like this.

Under Henry's lead, eating became the most important thing at that moment.

Perhaps because of Henry's presence, their table became the first to finish while the others were still toasting and drinking.

Lily of the Family Li, originally planned to sneak some food from her father's table after finishing her own plate of watermelon. But to her surprise, not only was there no watermelon left, but all the other dishes were gone too.

Seeing this, Lily marched straight towards Smith's table without uttering another word. As for why she didn't go to her grandmother's table.

Although Lily is young, she's quite observant. Not only because her grandmother's table was already taken, but also because she has noticed that her grandfather's table was always too busy drinking to eat much during meal times.

Watching his daughter midway turning and leaving the table, the eldest of the Li family, looking helpless, glanced at the bare table and stood up to ask the others, "Anyone up to go outside for a smoke?"

Hearing this and noticing the emptiness of the table, everyone gave a bitter smile. They had heard that Henry could eat, but they hadn't expected him to eat so much.

They originally wanted to have a leisurely meal and chat, so everyone was eating slowly. But under Henry's influence, everyone ended up scrambling for the remaining food, without having the chance to chat.

Since there was no food left on the table, they thought it would be better to change the location for their chat and continued their conversation while having a smoke outside.

They bade goodbye to the others and headed out together. As the host and the one who proposed the idea, the eldest of the Li family took out his packet of cigarettes to share.

Ye Liuyun has a keen eye and noticed that even though the cigarettes were from the same box, the ones in his brother Robinson's and his own hands were different.

Initially, he accepted the cigarette with a smile, but once the Li family's elder walked away, he murmured to Dong Tianyu "He did not want to be accused by Thomas of being stingy. But look at the cigarettes in our hands compared to the ones in everyone else's. He thinks very little of us."

Ye Liuyun's tone at this moment was quite pointed.

Dong Tianyu stayed silent because his eyesight improved after certain practices, he noticed while picking up the cigarette that there were faint bite marks on the filter.

Dong Tianyu understood instantly that although the cigarette in his hand hadn't been lit yet, it had been in someone's mouth and most likely, it was the elder Li. Thinking of this, Dong Tianyu felt a bit disgusted.

He initially intended to throw the cigarette away, but thought it would be inappropriate. Instead, he passed the cigarette to Ye Liuyun who was standing next to him. "I've quit smoking, you can have this cigarette."
