Chapter 198: Crazy
Facing a group of Resonators, even though many were well-known figures, Lucas still held himself with arrogance. He immediately issued commands, demanding several people he'd targeted to come forward for questioning.
Such an attitude was undoubtedly unpleasant, yet in the face of such a powerful existence, some who disliked it could only obediently approach and politely inquire what was needed.
Of course, some refused to come at all.
Carlotta remained rooted in place, not moving an inch.
Amelia, also one of those called out, naturally wouldn't go either.
Additionally, Ronan and Sandra showed no intention of approaching.
Although their ranks were below Lucas's, they were still established figures themselves, and naturally couldn't be ordered around like servants.
Ronan said calmly, "Mr. Lucas, if you have something to say, just say it directly. Even if we stand here, it won't hinder our communication, right?"
Sandra said, "Is there something that's displeased you, Mr. Lucas? Perhaps if you speak it out, we could offer slight assistance."
Although Ronan and Sandra were also dissatisfied with Lucas's attitude, they couldn't afford to show it too directly, so their words didn't carry excessive hostility.
But Carlotta had no courtesy to spare, "Old fool, who do you think you're talking to? This isn't inside your Mechanical Fortress. Do you really think others here need to obey your every command? Show some respect when you speak."
"What did you say?"
Lucas immediately fixed his gaze on Carlotta.
The others were somewhat shocked, not expecting this unfamiliar girl to speak so boldly, using such aggressive words against Lucas. Didn't she fear Lucas would become enraged and attack?
Carlotta naturally wasn't afraid.
When Lucas attacked her, she'd already prepared for everything. She didn't know why Lucas would target her, perhaps he already understood her situation, so any polite gestures were redundant.
She also wasn't without confidence. During her previous immersive training, she'd successfully transformed her magic, surpassing the 40% threshold and definitively becoming a middle tier Resonator.
Almost simultaneously with becoming a middle tier Resonator, the content of the War Goddess Battle Diagram, which she'd previously deeply understood, spontaneously surfaced in her mind, allowing her to instantly grasp a combat technique from it.
Thus, at this moment, facing an early tier Weaver like Lucas, she still has some confidence.
Although it was unreasonable for a middle tier Resonator to feel confident against an early tier Weaver, in Carlotta's case, it was entirely logical.
"Don't you know who you're facing?"
Lucas stared coldly at Carlotta.
"Old fool, you've already attacked me. Did you really expect me to stand before you respectfully? Do you think too highly of yourself? In truth, just what are you, really?"
Carlotta's eyes were icy, utterly unyielding.
Many around them wore astonished expressions, staring at Carlotta in disbelief. They were both shocked and slightly admiring, daring to speak like this to a Weaver truly meant she wasn't afraid of death.
Even the surrounding famous figures wore strangely peculiar expressions.
"So you're tired of this world. Then I'll send you on your way."
Lucas said grimly.
Regardless of whether this person was truly his enemy, anyone daring to speak to him this way had already been sentenced to death in his heart.
More importantly, he felt this person was likely indeed the enemy he'd long sought. Aside from that enemy, who else would dare face him with such an attitude?
Lucas raised his hand and suddenly made a forward-pushing motion.
In the next instant, one after another, long swords formed of aura materialized from the void, then shot through the air, headed towards Carlotta.
Carlotta was fast, swift dodging aside and evading the attack. However, these aura swords possessed tracking abilities, pursuing her like shadows, as if absolutely determined to stop until their target was struck.
Seeing this, Carlotta also manifested a sword in her hand. Brilliant swordlight flared, faintly accompanied by the sound of surging ocean waves, wave after wave of roaring tides.
This was her backup weapon, Blue Sea, a weapon she used only when appearing as Moon in the past. Now, she'd drawn this sword!
She would face Lucas as Moon!
With one slash of Blue Sea, light explodes in the air. One after another, the aura swords were instantly shattered and broken into nothingness.
Then Carlotta soared into the air, actively charging towards Lucas, her face showing not the slightest trace of fear, as if the Weaver before her meant nothing.
This bold stance left the surrounding observers deeply shaken.
"So strong? To dismantle a Weaver's attack so easily? Truly unbelievable."
Sandra couldn't help but exclaim, simultaneously feeling puzzled.
Who is this person?
'Why have I never heard of someone this powerful before?'
She acknowledged involuntarily at Ronan, noticing his dazed expression. Ronan seemed to have seen something inconceivable, his entire body trembling.
Seeing Ronan's expression, Sandra couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong? Did you figure something out?"
Ronan swallowed hard and said, "Moon."
He recognized that sword. Back in Swanport, Moon had used exactly such a sword. Although Ronan hadn't been present at the time, he later conducted extensive investigations, gaining a thorough understanding.
After all, without Moon, he would have been ranked first on the. He couldn't possibly ignore someone named Moon, he wanted more than anyone to know Moon's background.
Yet Moon was far too mysterious, appearing and disappearing without a trace, not someone you could simply seek out and meet.
Ronan never expected to encounter that Moon again under such circumstances.
People around Ronan, upon hearing his words, froze momentarily, then looked over in disbelief.
This unfamiliar girl... was actually Moon?
Due to the distance, Lucas didn't hear Ronan's words and thus didn't know the girl's identity. But regardless of who she was, her audacity in charging straight at him had already enraged him greatly.
"Do you really think Weavers are so easy to deal with? Once someone becomes a Weaver, all Resonators can only look up in awe. It's an entirely different realm."
Lucas spoke coldly.
He raised his hand and made agriculture. A long sword instantly appeared in his hand. In an instant, his entire body radiated an intensely sharp aura, as if he had transformed into an incredibly keen blade.
Carlotta appeared right before Lucas in an instant, then swung her sword at him, clearly using the Elven Symphony.
Lucas swung his own blade to meet it.
"Boom!"
When their swords clashed, it was as if thunder had exploded. Terrifying ripples spread in all directions, and the entire world seemed to tremble with their movements.
Under the tremendous recoil force, Carlotta was sent staggering backward, while the ground beneath Lucas's feet shattered completely, collapsing into a large crater, burying him deep inside.
"What?"
Lucas's face paled in shock, unable to believe what had just happened.
Facing a Resonator, he hadn't gained the upper hand, he'd actually been driven into the ground?
He even vaguely felt that if not for the alchemical armor he wore, which had absorbed much of the impact, he might have been injured in that exchange.
This was utterly unbelievable. Lucas's expression kept shifting, unable to accept it.
"Weaver, nothing special."
Carlotta speaks now, her voice is calm.
At this moment, Lucas was buried up to his neck, only his head and raised hands visible above the earth, appearing incredibly ridiculous and humiliated.
Many people around witnessing this couldn't help but wear strange expressions, filled with shock.
A Weaver, actually losing to a Resonator?
"Boom!"
Lucas exerted force and burst out from the ground, scattering soil in all directions.
His gaze like lightning, he stared at Carlotta. "Have you been the one targeting our Mechanical Fortress all this time?"
"What are you talking about? I attacked you simply because of your disrespectful words earlier. Someone who took himself too seriously, I'll show you that if I don't want you to be treated as a person, you won't be able to remain one."
As her words fell, Carlotta charged forward once again.
This time, she intended to test a technique she had just mastered, War goddess battle diagram instantly activated.
To everyone watching, Carlotta's figure suddenly became surrounded by countless duplicates of herself, each wearing different kinds of armor, as if marching into battle, exuding valor and intense killing intent.
But to Lucas, everything was different.
In his eyes, the vast world instantly transformed. He found himself standing on a boundless battlefield, endless yellow soil, rolling dust, a solemn and oppressive atmosphere hanging in the air.
Weapons were embedded everywhere in the ground, shattered armor littered the earth, bloodstains splattered across countless spots, corpses strewn in every direction.
In addition, massive numbers of armored soldiers had formed battle arrays. Now, accompanied by war cries, they charged at him in a mad frenzy, an army of thousands upon thousands stretching to the horizon.
"Just a bunch of trash."
Lucas knew he had fallen into some strange illusion. He couldn't immediately find a way to break free, but no matter what kind of illusion it was, brute force could always destroy it.
So without hesitation, he swung his sword and charged into the army.
Even faced with countless soldiers, he believed he could slaughter them all single-handedly.
"Kill!"
Sword aura swept across, cutting down large swaths of soldiers instantly. Limbs and flesh scattered everywhere, the scene looked extremely bloody and terrifying.
These soldiers weren't of high rank at all. Before Lucas, they were nothing, each swing of his sword could wipe out an entire group. He didn't even consider them a threat.
"Kill! Kill! Kill!"
Lucas cut through the army, sword stained with blood. Uncountable numbers fell into pools of blood. Within moments, the earth was dyed entirely red, the scene was horrifying beyond measure.
As he kept killing, Lucas couldn't help but sneer. With soldiers like these, no matter how many came, they meant nothing.
'Soldiers are part of the illusion's structure. If I kill enough, I'll damage the environment itself.'
Lucas thought to himself.
Although some time had passed, his extensive combat experience allowed him to feel that the time flow within this space was different from the outside world.
One instant outside might equal a very long time within this illusion. It was a dissonance created by asynchronous perception.
So Lucas fought without restraint. He charged back and forth, slaughtering everyone in sight, standing alone amidst mountains of corpses and seas of blood, unstoppable and overwhelming.
He killed wildly, crazed and unrestrained, charging in and out a hundred times, annihilating countless foes, until the sky itself seemed to rain crimson. Across the vast world, it appears as if only red remained.
Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!
After killing endlessly for who knew how long, Lucas finally began to sense something was wrong.
Why hadn't the illusion broken yet?
He had killed far too many, so many he couldn't count. Why couldn't he end this illusion?
How much longer must he keep killing?
He didn't just kill soldiers, he slashed at the earth, destroyed the scenery, but nothing seemed to work.
"Kill!"
From all directions, the soldiers remain endless, fearless in death, roaring as they charged forward. Even if it meant certain death, they did not hesitate.
This was war, saturated with blood, the stench of iron filled the air.
Lucas kept killing, for a full day and night, yet the soldiers still did not end.
"What kind of ability is this? So disgusting."
Lucas couldn't help but curse.
Even as a Weaver, fighting endlessly like this made him feel weary and disgusted.
He leapt into the air, reaching a high vantage point, only to see the soldiers flying after him as well. They clearly looked no more than Apprentice-level, yet damn it, they could fly!
Illusions truly bore no relation to reality.
Lucas cursed under his breath and continued fighting, cutting through the vast world. Wherever he passed, blood flowed endlessly. He advanced, stepping on piles of corpses and bones.
He tried to find the edge of the illusion, but no matter where he searched, he couldn't find it. This illusionary world seemed infinite, an unbelievable concept. He couldn't understand how his opponent had constructed such a realm.
All he could do was kill. Keep killing. Right now, aside from killing, he didn't know what else he could do.
Killing, killing, killing, three days and nights passed.
Lucas was nearly driven mad, roaring and cursing Carlotta.
Killing, killing, seven days and seven nights passed.
Lucas's eyes turned bloodshot, breathing heavily.
Killing, killing, half a month passed.
Lucas no longer knew how many people he had killed. An entire empire's army might have been wiped out... No, even an entire empire's army would only be a fraction of the millions he had slain. He must have killed far more.
Gradually, a full month passed.
"Uraaaaaah!"
Lucas was truly going mad, exhausted and crazed, his entire body drenched in blood, like a god, like a demon.
