Chapter 185: Black Goat
Creating the New Moon hadn't completely exhausted Carlotta's alchemical artifacts. For instance, the spoils recently obtained from Dale, several Alchemical artifacts, still remain unused.
Aside from the weapons Dale himself wielded, he carried other Alchemical artifacts, though he died before having the chance to use them.
Carlotta had inspected these items earlier and found them useless, so she had long ago tossed them into the furnace of Stellar Workshop. However, even after Stellar Workshop constructed New Moon, those items remained in the furnace, not yet fully consumed.
This sparked an idea in Carlotta's mind. She removed her Rose Cross and placed it into the furnace.
Alchemical items were categorized as either ordinary or superior grade, and Alchemical artifacts were no different.
Listeners could only effectively use ordinary-grade Alchemical artifacts. Even if given a superior-grade one, they couldn't fully utilize its power. But once one became a Resonator, they could fully harness the capabilities of a superior-grade Alchemical artifact.
Thus, Carlotta decided to upgrade her Rose Cross.
After placing the Rose Cross into the furnace, she also added several spare swords, intending to upgrade as many as possible to superior-grade artifacts.
For materials, she even threw in her defensive artifact, mainly because she felt this Alchemical artifact was practically useless, since acquiring it, it had never produced any noticeable effect.
After the upgrade, she retrieved the weapons. The Rose Cross she placed back around her neck.
Next, Carlotta and Amelia joyfully sailed New Moon across the ocean, deeply fond of their newly acquired alchemical ship, with no thoughts of returning just yet.
The night sea surged violently, an endless expanse of darkness, appearing especially profound. It exerted a strong sense of oppression, making anyone facing this boundless ocean inevitably feel their own insignificance. An instinctive fear would occasionally rise within them.
Yet standing on New Moon's deck, Carlotta felt much more at ease, as if even this endless ocean wasn't beyond her conquest.
Suddenly, the waters ahead exploded. A figure shot out from beneath the sea, splashing water high into the air.
It was an elderly man with white hair and beard, who seemed just passing by. But suddenly, he appeared to have noticed something, and suddenly turned his head towards them. Seeing the massive alchemical ship sailing on the sea surface, he was suddenly in shock.
"General Soul Reaper?"
The old man blurted out instinctively.
Everyone knew that General Soul Reaper had ranked third in the Sky Island trials, rewarded with an alchemical ship of superior-grade artifact status.
And undoubtedly, the ship before them was also of superior-grade artifact level, the old man immediately thought of General Soul Reaper.
The old man's expression grew extremely tense. He quickly withdrew, staring fixedly at the alchemical ship. But soon, confusion appeared in his eyes.
This seems... not General Soul Reaper's ship?
Because the two ships clearly looked different.
The old man recalled, he remembers General Soul Reaper's ship was black and crimson, while this one was blue and white, with greatly different shapes.
More importantly, General Soul Reaper had entered the Misty Sea while being pursued by the Imperial Navy and the Sun Moon Federation Alliance, so there was no reason for her to return silently like this.
That being the case...
The old man's eyes lit up, immediately advancing towards them.
At this moment, on the deck, Carlotta and Amelia had activated New Moon's ability, rendering themselves invisible. This invisibility effect, borrowed from New Moon, was likely imperceptible even to a Weaver.
They had already sensed someone's appearance, and seemed a formidable one at that, so they chose invisibility immediately.
"What rotten luck, encountering someone in these remote waters, in the middle of the night. Who is this?"
Carlotta looked into the distance, a card for long-distance vision appearing in her hand. She spotted the old man's appearance.
Amelia leaned over for a look and whispered, "Somewhat familiar."
"You know him?"
Carlotta asked.
"Not exactly 'know,' but I've seen this guy on the wanted list. He's a wanted criminal, ranked tenth on the list, a truly terrifying individual."
Amelia's expression grew serious as she spoke.
She told Carlotta that in theIslands, there exists a wanted list. Anyone who caused trouble in the Bass Archipelago and hadn't been apprehended would be added to this list. Capturing them will yield an extremely high reward.
"The top ten on the wanted list are all Weavers."
Amelia mentioned this point with a very serious expression.
Hearing this, Carlotta couldn't help but inhale sharply.
Anyone on the wanted list was undoubtedly a fearsome individual. In comparison, the Celebrity List didn't carry nearly as much intimidation.
Number ten on the wanted list, an early tier Weaver, Black Goat. That was the man's identity.
No one knew his real name, as he came from the Southern Continent. According to vague rumors, even in the Southern Continent, he had once caused bloody upheavals, an extremely cruel and terrifying figure.
Carlotta never expected to suddenly encounter such a fearsome individual. Yet deep down, she wasn't particularly worried. She glanced down at New Moon, instead feeling a stirring excitement.
"What are you planning to do?"
Amelia couldn't help but ask, sensing Carlotta's rising fight fervor.
"I've long heard that artifact-grade alchemical ships can fight against Weavers, and ours is even a superior-grade artifact alchemical ship. So doesn't that mean..."
Carlotta's eyes sparkled.
"Stay calm, don't do anything reckless."
Amelia quickly warned, emphasizing that the opponent was truly no simple foe, a Weaver.
Weaver had mastered the application of various techniques to an extraordinary degree, capable of turning the mundane into the miraculous. They belong to an entirely different tier of existence. Facing such an opponent, one couldn't afford any carelessness.
Carlotta said, "But if we don't act recklessly, he seems intent on doing so. Since that's the case, we have no reason to hold back, right?"
Black Goat indeed watched New Moon with predatory eyes, silently and stealthily approaching, his gaze flashing with dangerous light.
Seeing this was truly the case, Amelia changed her stance and said, "Since that's so, let's act directly. Don't wait for him to strike first. We must seize the initiative."
She was determined enough. Once it was clear Black Goat harbored ill intent, there was no need for courtesy.
The New Moon carried far too many weapons. After briefly discussing, Carlotta and Amelia decided exactly how they would make their first imposing strike.
"Weavers are all very fast in movement. Although our New Moon Cannon fires rapidly as well, the chance of them dodging is still quite high. We should focus on restricting his movements first. This Hellfire Cannon is perfect for that."
Amelia raised the first point.
When fired, the Hellfire Cannon could manifest a bizarre hellscape across a vast area. Within this zone, unpredictable techniques will emerge, creating a predicament that makes escape extremely difficult.
This wasn't an attack mainly for damage, but rather to trap and define targets within the hellscape.
Carlotta agreed and added, "Next, we should release a flash grenade to blind all of his senses, so he won't know where the follow-up attack is coming from and won't be able to defend."
Ordinary flash grenades cause temporary blindness, affecting only vision.
But the New Moon's flash grenades were different, more comprehensive. They enhance all senses, not just sight, but smell, hearing, touch, pain perception, every sensation would vanish into the blinding white light.
Amelia nodded in approval. "Once we've done that, all that's left is to completely obliterate the target. That's where the Moonpiercer Cannon comes in."
The New Moon carried numerous cannons designed for heavy damage. The Moonpiercer Cannon was one with astonishing piercing power and attack speed, possessing a certain degree of self-correcting trajectory.
Carlotta agreed. "Yes. The Moonpiercer Cannon is indeed capable of one-shot killing an early tier Weaver, and it's highly likely to hit."
As the two discussed their plan, the Black Goat continued to silent approach, completely unaware of their conspiracy. He even believed his movements were still concealed, and that the people aboard hadn't detected him yet.
At this moment, the Black Goat was puzzled. He couldn't understand when such a high-level alchemical ship had appeared. Ships of this caliber, if even one surfaced, should have caused a massive stir. So why had he never heard of it before?
Although he didn't understand, the Black Goat still decided to get closer and investigate. If there was an opportunity, he wouldn't mind seizing the ship.
'If I could obtain an alchemical ship of this level, just like General Soul Reaper, the bounty posters would probably have to move me several ranks higher.'
The Black Goat thought to himself darkly.
At the mere thought of such a possibility, even someone as weathered as him couldn't suppress the surge of excitement within. He involuntarily crept even closer.
But suddenly...
"Boom!"
From the New Moon, a dark red cannonball was violently launched, closing in at an astonishing speed.
The Black Goat was started by the attack, but quickly regained his composure. Although the cannonball was fast, as a true Weaver, he had no reason to believe he couldn't dodge it.
He quickly sidestepped, creating considerable distance from the dark red projectile. But the next moment, his expression changed drastically.
"Boom!"
The dark red cannonball exploded, releasing an eerie, incomprehensible ripple that instantly spread in all directions, covering a vast area. A twilight-like scenery emerging across the region, an otherworldly vision imbued with a sense of time's relentless passage.
Although the Black Goat had avoided the direct impact, he couldn't escape the coverage of this twilight hellscape. He was immediately drawn into it, as if his entire being was merged into the scene, destined to vanish along with the flow of time.
"What kind of technique is this?"
The Black Goat was shocked.
Even as a Weaver, he had never before clashed with an alchemical ship of this level. He was unfamiliar with their abilities. Besides, different alchemical ships possess different offensive techniques, especially at the level of superior Artifacts, each was unique. Some attacks were exclusive to the New Moon.
Within the dim, yellowish hellscape, an indescribable sense of fading permeated. Trapped in this scene, the Black Goat found even the slightest movement extremely difficult, as if the entire world was filled with thick glue that immobilized him. The sensation was unbearably oppressive.
Suddenly, the corner of his eye twitched.
He looked ahead and saw a white cannonball hurtling toward the yellowish hellscape.
"Though I'm having trouble moving, I'm not that easy to hit. I can still, Damn it!"
The Black Goat's thought wasn't even finished before he burst into curses. The white cannonball exploded the moment it neared, instantly turning the world blindingly white. Nothing was visible anymore. It was as if he had been thrown into a pure white world, so stark it was terrifying.
Then, to his horror, he realized all his senses had disappeared. Not only was his vision reduced to white, but his hearing, touch, everything was gone.
He felt as if frozen in some forgotten corner of time, every sensation paused. All he could do was think, and even his thoughts felt stiffened.
What he didn't know was that, the moment the white light exploded, a blue-white energy beam had already been fired from the New Moon. Its radiant light nearly illuminated the sky, and the released aura pressed the ocean surface into a long, deep depression.
Yet, the Black Goat remained completely unaware.
The terrifying beam arrived quickly, surging with overwhelming power. It exactly reached the Black Goat's position and mercilessly pierced straight through him, completely obliterating his entire body. His chest and abdomen were blown away without a trace, his internal organs instantly vaporized.
Still, the Black Goat remained unaware.
Only after a long while did the flash grenade's effect wore off, and the Black Goat gradually regained his senses.
He looked toward the New Moon ahead and saw the two girls secretly revealed on the deck. His body tensed, ready to charge towards them.
But as he attempted to move, he suddenly noticed something was terribly wrong with himself, overwhelming, indescribable pain surged through him.
This was...
The Black Goat looked down, his eyes filled with disbelief, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.
How could this be?
Why was this happening?
Why?
Why?
The Black Goat roared in agony. As his feelings returned, he felt endless pain, so intense he wished to return to that timeless, numb void.
In agony, he collapsed helplessly, splashing into the sea with a loud splash, finally ending his wicked life.
