Carlotta's Daily Report

Chapter 179: Rankings

Compared to a single celebrity, the gimmick of "sister celebrities" makes it much easier for people to remember Carlotta and Amelia.

For now, they could be considered celebrities in their own right.

Yet, to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances, Carlotta still intends to boost her fame further. Whether it was the celebrity gathering or the mermaid princess's birthday celebration, she planned to attend both, there was no reason to miss out.

However, such gatherings wouldn't invite just any celebrity. There would certainly be some screening involved. To avoid being the one overlooked, Carlotta felt she needed to become even more eye-catching.

Thus, as daylight arrived and yet another celebrity set up a challenge stage, seeking fights across various islands, Carlotta and Amelia once again split up to act.

This time, Carlotta arrived at Island 32. Although smaller in size, this island wasn't too far from Island 9 and remained lively.

Lush greenery covered the island, where all kinds of plants thrived. It was a refreshingly green island, so many people enjoyed spending time here.

Upon Carlotta's arrival, she fought the celebrity Angel Julian, who was from the Southern Continent. He wasn't proficient in the local language of the Bass Archipelago, speaking stammering, but his combat strength was undeniably real.

Carlotta felt he was even stronger than Sienna.

Angel followed a knight's path and seemed able to resonate with plants. In motion, he absorbed life energy transmitted from surrounding flora, making his attacks powerful, heavy, and fiercely courageous.

Still, Angel ultimately fell to Carlotta, who overwhelmed him with a relentless barrage of wind-elemental cards.

The fight drew a fair number of onlookers. Once again, Carlotta's reputation grew, and she promptly left the island.

She continued roaming across different islands of the Bass archipelago. Within a single morning, she engaged in duels with five nearby celebrities, winning all of them decisively and sparking widespread discussion.

"Layla is really something. I feel like she's never going all out in her fights. No one's managed to force her to reveal her full strength yet."

"Mary is impressive too. She remains so calm and composed in every battle. Those sword beams are truly terrifying."

"It's not just the sisters. Other celebrities are also fighting each other, with wins and losses. Everyone's strength is remarkable."

"Who's truly skilled and who's just a fraud, this period will reveal the truth. Some so-called celebrities aren't even worth mentioning."

Discussions about celebrities were rampant, with both praise and criticism. In comparison, Carlotta and Amelia enjoyed a fairly positive reputation.

After all, they had truly clashed with other celebrities and emerged victorious every time. To others, they were clearly authentic celebrities, so they naturally avoided slander.

After the morning's activities, Carlotta and Amelia returned to their hotel on Island 9 and went to sleep.

When they woke up again, it was already 8 PM.

Night had fallen once more. Sea breezes swept across the islands, swaying the lights scattered throughout the archipelago.

Suddenly after getting up, Carlotta was reminded by hotel staff while buying breakfast that someone had come looking for her in the afternoon and left a letter.

Taking the letter, Carlotta opened it and couldn't help but smile.

It was an invitation.

A celebrity gathering, initiated by a woman named Sandra Sanchez. Sandra was well-connected and held considerable influence, so others were willing to grant her the courtesy of attending.

This invitation had been sent by Sandra's people, inviting Carlotta to attend a gathering scheduled for the next afternoon.

"The event's in the afternoon, huh..."

Carlotta looked at time and thought. Looks like she'd have to stay up a little later.

But staying awake wasn't a serious issue for her. As an extraordinary being, each rank advancement enhances her physical capabilities across the board. Staying awake for extended periods wasn't that difficult.

The reason she maintained a regular sleep schedule was simply to keep herself in optimal condition to handle any unexpected situations. Occasionally skipping sleep wouldn't hurt.

Carlotta returned to her room with the letter, bought breakfast, and calmly enjoyed a meal with Amelia.

"Decided who to challenge today?"

Amelia asked.

"Not today."

Carlotta shook her head and passed the letter to Amelia.

After reading it, Amelia's eyes sparkled with mild surprise.

"Never thought we'd get into the celebrity circle this quickly. How interesting."

Amelia smiled.

"With our abilities, entering such circles is merely a matter of choice. I plan to go check it out, maybe I can purchase some valuable alchemical materials for the Stellar Workshop."

Carlotta said.

The letter mentioned that the gathering's true purpose was to form an elite trading circle, specifically for exchanging high-end items, rather than just being a casual social event.

This naturally held great appeal for Carlotta. Many materials weren't only useful for alchemy, they could also be used in card creation. Acquiring rare materials will only benefit her.

Most importantly, she knew that the vampire Zorn Wilson would bring the "Sky Corner Stone", the sixth-place prize from Sky Island, to the gathering for sale. She couldn't afford to miss this.

The only concern was whether she had enough money.

'It should be enough, right? The Sky Foundation Stone is a unique material never seen before. No one knows its uses, so the price shouldn't be absurdly high. But then again, precisely because it's something new, it might spark a bidding war. Many won't want to miss out.'

Carlotta felt a bit tight on funds, but she knew it wasn't an unsolvable problem.

She could also sell some items. She had plenty of rare things, like the Magic Bananas and Sun Carrots she'd obtained on Sky Island, which actually held considerable value in the outside world.

Additionally, she could sell Wind Magic Stones. These materials were extremely precious and could fetch a high price.

Thinking this through, Carlotta felt much more at ease.

That night, neither she nor Amelia went out to challenge anyone. They stayed at the hotel, meditating and occasionally attempting to transform their bodies with magic, steadily improving.

In the blink of an eye, it was already midnight.

As usual, Carlotta checked the latest intelligence.

[ 1: Sandra Sanchez's invitation for the celebrity gathering has been sent out. Those who haven't received one are effectively disabled. Many celebrities who didn't get invited are now expressing dissatisfaction and protesting through various means.]

Sandra Sanchez's celebrity gathering had become one of the hottest topics recently within celebrity circles, drawing attention from all famous figures.

Nowadays, some received invitations while others did not, naturally stirring varied emotions among people.

Those who weren't invited felt disrespected. Normally, only fake celebrities wouldn't deserve an invitation, were they being treated as fakes by Sandra?

Carlotta looked at this piece of intelligence and could roughly guess how different people felt, but it didn't concern her. She had already received her invitation, her real combat record proved she was definitely no fake.

[ 2: Gerhman Wagner obtains a rare special alchemical material called Everdark Earth Gold. However, he doesn't know it's valuable, because it's extremely rare and rarely seen. He mistook it for Dullstone Gold and plans to sell it at the celebrity gathering.]

Carlotta froze for a moment. She'd never heard of Everdark Earth Gold before, though she knew of Dullstone Gold, it was a relatively uncommon alchemical material with certain value.

She couldn't help but ask Amelia, "Amelia, have you ever heard of Everdark Earth Gold?"

Amelia thought for a moment and replied, "I've heard of it. It's very rare, its value is about the same as Eternal Mythril."

Carlotta was shocked.

She knew exactly how valuable Eternal Mythril was. Back then, she had nearly spent all 3 million contribution points earned by Moonlight Adventurers to obtain just a small piece.

Just one piece of Eternal Mythril provided 4% progress in the alchemy workshop, its rarity was evident.

Carlotta's eyes flickered. She was determined to get her hands on that Everdark Earth Gold. Buying it cheap while others remain ignorant of its value, this was her chance to seize a rare opportunity.

This was the benefit of having prior intelligence. Otherwise, at the gathering, she would have missed such a precious alchemical material too.

[3: The Mechanical Fortress is furious over the loss of the alchemical armor and Chad Castro's death. Many people are currently hiding in Simon Merchant Guild's shops, suspecting the culprit might return to loot Simon Merchant Guild.]

The Simon Merchant Guild was established by Simon Dunkinson after he split from the Dunkinson Merchant Guild, specializing in alchemical business, mainly serving the Mechanical Fortress.

Carlotta had indeed considered raiding the Simon Merchant Guild before, but due to safety concerns, she never carried it out. The facts prove her decision correct, people from the Mechanical Fortress were likely waiting in ambush at every hidden corner for her.

'You can keep waiting. I'm definitely not going.'

Carlotta muttered inwardly.

[ 4: Melissa Harris, a card magic practitioner, heard of Layla's reputation. As a fellow card magic practitioner, she felt a sense of crisis and therefore plans to challenge Layla Shirley at the celebrity gathering, aiming to prove she's the strongest card magic practitioner.]

A question mark immediately appears above Carlotta's head.

This Melissa Harris, wasn't this the same person she'd seen in Swanport?

Wasn't she a fake? How did she qualify for the celebrity gathering?

Back in Swanport, Carlotta remembered this woman even arranged a fake fight with an early-tier Resonator. That incident left a deep impression because shortly afterwards, Carlotta herself, under the name "Moon," stepped in and completely stole Melissa's spotlight.

'Perhaps she's not as fake as I thought? Maybe her fight against the early tier Resonator was staged, but it's possible she's truly powerful against equals?'

That was Carlotta's only guess.

Besides trading, the celebrity gathering naturally included a challenge segment. Everyone was famous and (unconvinced) of others, resolving disputes with fists wasn't unusual.

Carlotta didn't care about Melissa's challenge. She simply didn't see Melissa as a real opponent.

[5: The Bass Archipelago' Managing Council has recently issued an official celebrity ranking, ranking individuals based on talent level. Currently ranked first is Moon, Layla Shirley is ranked 32nd, and Mary Shirley is ranked 31st.]

Carlotta was somewhat surprised. The Bass Archipelago was jointly managed by numerous factions and organizations. For convenience, they established the Bass Council as an administrative body.

Yet Carlotta didn't expect these people had so much free time they'd create a ranking list for celebrities?

Was it ranked based on each person's public performances?

She didn't mind being ranked 32nd, since "Moon" ranked first, and "Moon" was her.

However, Moon had never come to the Bass Archipelago, why was she included? Was it because every genuine celebrity would be listed regardless of their location?

This was today's final piece of intelligence, and it made Carlotta chuckle.

Since the Bass Council had already finalized and published the rankings, she should be able to obtain a copy, right?

Immediately, Carlotta called Amelia and walked out of the inn, strolling around under the guise of shopping.

Sure enough, not long after, she overheard people discuss the celebrity rankings. The first edition of the list was published in the Bass Evening Post, an official newspaper issued by the Bass Council.

She promptly bought a copy of the Bass Evening Post and sat on a roadside bench with Amelia to read it together.

"This ranking is actually quite interesting."

Carlotta looked on with keen interest.

The rankings had nothing to do with a celebrities' own tier, only talent level mattered. In other words, it assesses whether one could dominate their tier, or achieve victory against higher tiers. The more impressive the tier-jumping feats, the higher the ranking.

Back in Swanport, Moon, merely a peak tier listener, killed multiple Resonators, including two peak tier ones. She had displayed terrifying abilities unmatched by anyone, so her first-place ranking was unquestionable.

The newspaper specially mentioned Moon's case, highlighting that in general, the rankings would only list celebrities present because even if someone's achievements were astonishing, it was hard to verify their authenticity if they hadn't come to Bass Archipelago.

But the Moon was different.

Swanport wasn't far from the Bass Archipelago, and her battle occurred in broad daylight before countless witnesses, its credibility was unquestionable. Furthermore, Moon's achievements were so extraordinary and surpassed everyone else, making her impossible to ignore. Therefore, she was included in the list.

"Come to think of it, could such a ranking be credible if Moon wasn't on it?"

Someone passing by holding the newspaper casually remarked.

Amelia glanced sideways at Carlotta. All around, pedestrians rush past, but who knew that the "Moon" everyone was talking about standing right beside her?

Carlotta finished reading the description about Moon, then scanned the other rankings, roughly memorizing everyone's positions.
