Chapter 27: The Divine Tower Trial (P13)- The Finals (FP)- The New Magic Standard
Sora was impressed, not by Sebastian's magic, not by the array of talents he had, not even by the fact that he even had a six-winged Angel as a Soul beast. No, Sora was thoroughly and completely impressed by Sebastian's strategic sense of presentation and showmanship, there truly wasn't a display of superiority as well thought out or performed as this even in his time. Sora was genuinely taking notes at the level of disrespect and mental degradation Sebastian was able to inflict on his victim before the match even started.
Lima decided to grit his teeth and go for it since he didn't see himself having many other options to win this match- He flooded both his Fire and Space elemental cores with mana, making it a point to borderline overload both before letting some of his mana leak out in front of him in the build-up process. "Alright you arrogant little shit... Be a good boy and stay right there", Lima demanded he cast [Advanced] Scorch before using [Advanced] crushing force to compress it and hold it in place. He repeated the process multiple times over, making use of the old era's ignition method of casting that he learnt from Sora to maximise the output of his scorch until he had what was essentially a ball of fire the size of a fist with enough heat and pressure to match magma.
Lima focused this ball of fire and fed it as much of his mana as he could within the time he had only shooting the ball out at the 30-second mark. Sebastian who initially assumed this would be another easy walk over paled when he saw Lima using ignition casting, his worry got worse when he saw how much mana and energy was being funneled into this attack, he wasn't certain of being able to survive without blocking and he didn't like it. "Don't you know you cocky brat... The boy who flew too close to the sun lost his wings", Lima said as he imploded his spell, releasing its full force at point-blank range once the attack got to Sebastian.
The resulting blast was so large its shockwave alone shattered the protective spell separating the stands from the crowd watching. The heat was so intense that Lima had focused all of it at the empty point in the crowd so as not to harm any students, yet even despite that his attack had melted a small portion of the stadium away completely. Lima dropped to one knee in exhaustion with a wince and laboured breathing- It was only then did despair fully set in for Lima as he saw the fanfare of his attack die down.
Sebastian remained where stood, unscathed, as a matter of fact even some of the ground around him was perfectly fine despite taking that attack head-on. That attack was everything he had and it didn't even singe him at barely 5 metres- From the crowd though the only one who wasn't thoroughly impressed by Sebastian's showing and cheering for him passionately was none other than Sora. "Presentation and showmanship is one thing... But the thing I hate the most is a fucking coward", Sora muttered with a blank look on his face as he rose from where he sat in the stands and slowly began to walk towards the nearest set of stairs he could find.
Lima thought that attack would give him a confidence boost to get him in the mindset of beating Sebastian in this match but that attack only further reinforced the fact that Sebastian couldn't be beaten. Thinking about it seriously and decided to give up, if this guy couldn't even be harmed there was no point even trying. Before Mu Lima could begin comprehending what happened Sebastian suddenly appeared beside him after casting [Perfect] Light step, as he stared at the melted portion of the stadium while rubbing his chin.
"I wonder If that hit anyone", Sebastian pondered as he used his [Perfect] Spirit beast fusion to sprout his angel wings once more as a Halo of light formed above his head. "You should go find out my friend", Sebastian 'suggested' as he smacked Lima's back, launching the Profound mage towards the melted-off portion of the stadium. Lima barely managed to veer himself off course before crashing into the stairs alongside the stands.
Lima looked up with a groan, just to see Sora standing above him with an outstretched hand, "Fuck off", Lima cussed before rolling onto his back and sitting up. "You should probably know that he lied... At the last moment, your opponent opened a portal in front of himself so your attack never hit its target", Sora said with a frown. "I don't care brat... this match is over", Lima declared with resolution, he didn't believe he could win so was stopping the match here.
"Disappointing... If anyone did I thought you would at least hold some pride in yourself as a mage... Yet here you are, giving up while being told you have a chance to win", Sora sighed before walking off, "Just go home if you're going to quit, this academy doesn't need pathetic guys like you... This era of mages truly is utter garbage", Sora said with disappointment and grief riddled in his voice as he walked off crestfallen at Lima's lack of will power. He had gained slight respect for the guy after his fight with Zhu Linlin, after all not just anyone could take on a dragon-kin, but it seemed that when it came down to it Lima had hit his limit.
As Sora walked off, Lima suddenly shot out of the stands, using his [Perfect] telekinesis to fly at Sebastian. Sebastian cast [Perfect] Gravitation Force with a bored look on his face as he watched Lima get smacked onto the platform, but showed mild surprise when the Profound mage used Gravitation Force to forcefully allow himself to stand. Lima then cast [Perfect] Land of Ice letting a layer of Black ice rapidly spread across the platform towards Sebastian, spreading to almost striking range almost instantly.
Sebastian tsked and quickly took to the skies but Lima wasn't relenting on this victory as he placed his palms on the Ice covered platform and cast his [Lesser] Hail shard assault through it shooting Black shards of Ice up at Sebastian from the Ice covering the platform. Sebastian created a seemingly endless array of fire daggers launching them down with the intention of overwhelming Lima's spell. When Sebastian's flame daggers didn't get the job done his wings began to glow and he beat them with intent, sending a wave of energy down that not only overwhelmed Lima's spell but broke most of the Ice covering the Platform.
What Sebastian Failed to notice however was that Lima had taken the chance to build up his Ultimate spell except this time, Lima pulled Sebastian to the ground with Telekinesis before firing his spell. This time the beam of focused fire hit Sebastian cleanly and he was blasted up and out of the stadium outright. Not long after the fanfare died down, Sebastian appeared on the opposite side of the platform to Lima via his [Perfect] Light step.
He looked visibly annoyed by the fact that Lima's attack had blown both of his arms and one of his wings clean off the blast was so strong that Sebastian's Halo was cracked. While it was the furthest thing from fatal, Lima's blast had done substantial damage to what was essentially a Sergeant Class Arch Angel. Sebastian looked down at himself with a frown before taking a deep breath to calm himself and his Halo began to glow.
As this happened the cracks on the Halo disappeared along with all of the damage Lima's blast had done to him almost instantly. Sebastian calmly dusted himself off before one of his feathers shot out like a bullet and took Lima's right arm clean off before stopping, flying back to Sebastian, and reattaching itself. " I wasn't going to do this before since you did me a solid and messed little Linlin up for me but... What made you believe an insect like you had the right to challenge me??", Sebastian stated more than asked.
"Surrender", Sebastian ordered without cracking a smile or posturing as he usually would, Caught off guard Lima was about to ask what he meant when Sebastian shot out another feather to take Lima's left leg clean off from the middle of the thigh down making Lima yell out in pain as he was slammed into the ground by Sebastian's Gravitational Force spell. "Surrender", Sebastian said once more without missing a beat as he began slowly approaching the vitally injured and vulnerable Mu Lima.
Lima never got a chance to respond before Sebastian crushed his voice box with Mental force and crossed his arms, "Since you seem to love making noise, but refuse to obey a simple instruction... I believe it is appropriate to educate you and the rest of your peers of your level and place in this world", Sebastian said with straight face as he pointed to the sky and a ball of fire appeared out of thin air, one that was roughly 20 times the size of the Stadium where they all presently stood.
The entire staff and Student body went pale as the teachers were expending all of their effort trying to protect the students from this monster of an attack, there was nobody capable of interfering with what was likely about to be a public execution. "Let this be a reminder to all of you students of Interstellar Magic Academy... We are not equals... We have never been equals... and the next person who dares to forget that will meet the same fate as this unfortunate welp", Sebastian declared as he made a slight pinching motion, compressing the massive ball of fire to the size of a grape.
Sebastian cast 20 layers of barriers around the Platform to protect the stands before dropping his finger as the ball of fire dropped from the sky like a lightning bolt and struck Mu Lima's back. The fireball exploded on impact and the sheer force of the blast shook the stadium at its foundations creating what most assumed was an earthquake. The sheer force and heat radiating from the blast was overwhelming everyone who was already a profound mage, and even for those who were, the entirety of their ability was going towards protecting themselves and all the non-profound mage students they could from the aftermath of this attack.
The fanfare died down and, surprising nobody, once it did there was a 50-foot-deep crater in the ground- The thing that did surprise people was the fact that Lima seemed to be alive at the bottom of it with no but a few severe burns in none vital areas. The most surprising part of the whole ordeal was the old man stood in the crater over Mu Lima's battered and unconscious body with a cold expression plastered on his face. The barrier Sebastian had put up was still standing yet somehow this individual had not only broken onto the platform, but he managed to interfere in the duel and went as far as saving Lima's life.
"It seems I have let you run rampant for much too long little Salvatore" The old man began, "Since when were you strong enough to act as you pleased in my school ??", the old man scolded with an empty look in his eyes, his relatively small frame showing visible restraint as his gaze fell solely on Sebastian. One could not put into words the profound disappointment this old man felt at this moment. As the man responsible for starting this whole tournament, As the man who personally brought Sebastian into this academy, and most importantly as the man who bore the title of Principal of the Interstellar Magic Academy- Elijah Momonga.
