Height:

Measurements shorter than a stretch are usually measured bodily—i.e., an arm length, a finger length, etc.

Stretch: the height of an average person, roughly 1.75 meters (5'9")

Clamber: about 10 stretches (roughly 17.5 meters)

Climb: about 100 stretches (roughly 170 meters)

Scale: about 1000 stretches (roughly 1700 meters—5750 feet)

Distance:

Stride: the length of an average person's stride, roughly 1 meter (3'3")

Span: about ten average-sized strides (roughly 10 meters)

Jog: about ten spans (roughly 100 meters)

Journey: about ten Jogs (roughly 1 kilometer; 3,280 feet)

Glossary of Terms (alphabetical order)

Asrûn (AZ-roon) – Elven word for iterations of reality/time.

Avelrûn (AH-vel-roon) – Voice of the Fifth Root of the Assembly.

Dahmir'veth (DAH-meer-veth) – The Shadebound (scouts, assassins).

Dalûn (Dah-LOON) – Flat-bottomed boats of the marsh.

Durthangrim (DUR-than-grim) – Dwarven city carved into a cliff.

Elulis (eh-LOO-liss) – War hammer and shield bearer in Ithshar's squad.

Galûn'Thahm Dahm'Zahra (GAH-loon-THAHM DAHM-ZAH-rah) – Julia's evolved nickname during the final clash of the Battle of Life. Titan Who Blooms in Blood.

Ghamhûr (GAM-hoor) – Crocfrog predators of the swamp.

Ghal (GAHL) – Root: juvenile/child term for penis.

Ghil/ghilim (GHEEL/GHEE-leem): An informal Elvish term for a sibling or branch-mate. Ghilim is the plural.

Ghathil/ghathilim (GHAH-theel/GHAH-thee-leem): A formal Elvish term for siblings or one of the same family tree. Ghathilim is the plural.

Ghûl (ghool) – Ghastly Nashiin unit with long claws and an animalistic hunger for the living.

Gohlmer (GOHL-mer): A Wight of terrifying power. Ancient and summoned from the Ether, he commands undead legions with chilling resolve.

Grûmvelk (GROOM-velk) – Monstrous subterranean predator also called a "Cave Crawler."

Ithshar (EETH-shar) – Leader of Ithsharûn, Seyatha's once-apprentice.

Ithsharûn (EETH-shah-roon) – Originally the name for Ithshar's squad, this term evolved to be an informal name for the Zal'Nadir as a whole, though it is still used to refer to Ithshar's specific squad.

Jadhariin (jah-dah-REEN): The Marsh Elves, an elven culture who revere the spirit known as the Mother and live in harmony with the Song of the marsh.

Jallis (JAL-liss) – Quarterstaff wielder in Ithshar's squad.

Jashîm Nuralûn-Sûrari (jah-SHEEM noo-rah-LOON soo-RAH-ree) – Scout that escorted Julia into Veshari.

Khazra / Khazrat (KHAZ-rah / KHAZ-raht) – Domesticated lizards that the elves use as beasts of burden.

Lala (LAH-lah): An affectionate term used by Jadhariin children for their parent(s). Gender-neutral and intimate.

Lazhiri (LAH-zhee-ree) – Gliding message lizards.

Lumenfall (LOO-men-fall) – Trixy's evolved name.

Lunari (loo-NAH-ree) – Child of the Thornalûn family.

Marghul (MAR-ghool): The self-given name of the undead legions. Translates roughly to "The March That Does Not End."

Molrekh (MOHL-reckh) – Towering/Spherical undead construct.

Nadhrûn (NAHD-roon) – Parent of the Thornalûn family.

Nashiin (nah-SHEEN): The Elvish term for undead. Used by the Jadhariin to describe the walking dead that now plague their lands.

Nûr'Shavath (NOOR-shah-vath) – Aquaculture town emptied by the undead.

Nȳralin (NEER-ah-lin): Julia's surname, given by Braden. Derived from Elvish, meaning "Child-of-Nȳr."

Nȳrèn (NEER-en): A name for Braden??

Raqsala/raqsalin (RAHK-sah-la/rahk-sah-LEEN): Water skis that the Jadhariin create for gliding along the waters of their marsh home. One raqsala is a pair used by a single person; raqsalin refers to multiple sets.

Rofocale (ROH-foh-kale): The Strategist among the Four.

Ruhaj (ROO-hahj) – Parent of the Thornalûn family.

Ruwāh / Ruwāhîn (roo-WAH / roo-WAH-heen) – Elven word for Spirit/Spirits.

Sahmira (sah-MEER-ah) – Parent of the Thornalûn family.

Sahri (SAH-ree) – Petal: juvenile/child term for vulva.

Sahveth (SAH-veth) – Mace and shield wielding member of Ithshar's squad.

Seyatha (say-YAH-thah) – Voice of the Mother

Selûneth (seh-LOO-neth) – Parent of the Thornalûn family.

Shal'tharûn (SHAHL-thah-roon) – War cry of the Zal'Nadir: We follow the Song.

Shavrethil (SHAHV-reh-thil) – Plucked dulcimer-like instrument.

Sithraah (SITH-rah) : The Infiltrator among the Four.

Shûratalûn (SHOOR-ah-tah-loon) – Rooted Assembly of Veshari.

Sûram'Vahl (SOO-rahm-VAHL) – Khazrat rearing village.

Tahmûn (TAHM-oon) – Hand drum.

Taliyah (tah-LEE-yah) – Parent of the Thornalûn family.

Talrah'Ven (TAHL-rah-ven) – Marsh rice-farming town.

Teyem (TAY-em) – Child of the Thornalûn family.

Thalan'dûr (THAH-lahn-DOOR) – Martial law declaration.

Thalan'veth (THAH-lahn-veth) – The Jadhariin military as a whole.

Thalûm'Dahm (THAH-loom-DAHM) – The Rooted Line, the main Jadhariin army.

Thol'Gurat (THOHL-goo-raht): The elite ranks of the undead—commanders, Barrowlords, and higher within the Marghul. Dreaded for their strength, cunning, and unwavering dedication to carry out their orders.

Thol'Morrak (THOHL-moh-rrahk) – High Barrowlord, top undead field commander.

Tirn'Aleya (TEER-nah-LAY-ah) – Ancient temple of the marsh.

Tûrathiin (TOO-rah-thee-in) – The marsh realm.

Valewyn (VAYL-win) – Sacred transport vessel of the Zal'Nadir.

Va'tharil (VAH-thah-ril) – Military affirmation for the elves, similar to "Yes, Sir!" or "Yes, Ma'am!"

Vazreth (VAHZ-reth) – Closest neighboring city to the marsh.

Vrak'Grûm (VRAHK-groom) – Grûmvelk's death-spin attack.

Walîn (WAH-leen): A formal term used by the Jadhariin for a parent. Gender-neutral and respectful.

Yathil (YAH-theel) – Shield of the Fifth Root of the Assembly.

Zahranûn (ZAH-rah-noon) – Julia's squad during the Battle of Life. The Blooming Guard.

Zahri'thalan (ZAH-ree-thah-lahn) – Military auxiliary corps. The Bloomtouched.

Zah'Raveth (ZAH-rah-veth) – Braden's Elvish name. Watcher of the Brink.

Zhul'Kareth (ZHOOL-kah-reth) – Undead name for Julia. The Flame That Does Not Die.
