Call of duty one shots

Chapter 104: Part 1

The sterile white lab hummed with an unsettling energy. Captain Price, Soap MacTavish, Ghost, and Gaz stood, grimacing, as a scientist in a biohazard suit fiddled with a complex device.

"Are you sure about this, Doctor?" Price growled, his teenage frame feeling ridiculously small inside the oversized tactical gear. He barely reached 5'8 now and his beard was gone, replaced with peach fuzz.

"Positive, Captain," the Doctor replied, his voice muffled. "The temporal displacement device experienced a power surge during testing. The resulting energy wave, though not dangerous, had... unforeseen side effects. You've all been temporarily de-aged. Think of it as a second puberty, gentlemen."

Soap, sporting a constellation of fresh acne and a nervous twitch, piped up, "A second puberty? Is that even possible?"

Ghost, usually an emotionless monolith, was visibly struggling to maintain his composure. His mask felt suffocating on his now-smaller face. "How long is... temporary?" he asked, his voice cracking mid-sentence.

"Approximately one week," the Doctor explained, oblivious to the growing panic in the room. "The effects will gradually reverse. In the meantime, you should avoid high-stress situations, maintain a healthy diet, and… well, try to get some sleep."

Gaz, perpetually the optimist, tried for a reassuring smile that looked more like a grimace. "Right, a week. We've survived worse. How hard can being teenagers be?"

He would soon find out.

The powers that be, in their infinite wisdom, decided the best place for the de-aged Task Force 141 to lie low was… a high school. Specifically, Northwood High, a sprawling suburban institution filled with brightly colored lockers, questionable cafeteria food, and the terrifying ecosystem of teenage social hierarchy.

Price, now going by the alias "Mr. Harrison" (a history teacher), had the easiest time blending in, though his attempts at connecting with Gen Z teenagers were constantly met with blank stares and eye rolls. Soap (alias "Sean MacTavish") was enrolled as a junior, desperately trying to navigate the social minefield. Ghost (alias "Simon Riley") was a brooding sophomore, his mask replaced with a black hoodie that he refused to take off, even in class. Gaz (alias "Gary Sanderson") joined the freshman ranks, a wide-eyed observer overwhelmed by the sheer sensory overload of high school life.

Their first day was a disaster.

Soap, trying to appear cool, tripped over his own feet in the crowded hallway, sending a cascade of textbooks tumbling to the floor. He was mortified when a group of popular girls giggled, and his face flushed crimson. Ghost, meanwhile, was perpetually harassed by bullies who saw him as an easy target, even if his intense glare made them think twice. Gaz, overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information - new subjects, intricate social rules, and the baffling language of memes - spent most of his classes in a state of bewildered confusion. Price, trying to maintain order in his history class, found himself battling an endless stream of TikTok dances, whispered conversations, and the occasional water balloon attack.

The hormones were a nightmare.

Soap found himself inexplicably drawn to a girl in his English class named Sarah, a quiet, artistic soul who wore vintage band t-shirts and had a smile that could melt glaciers. He spent hours agonizing over what to say to her, eventually resorting to leaving anonymous notes in her locker, filled with awkward poetry and misspelled words.

Ghost, used to suppressing his emotions, was completely unprepared for the onslaught of teenage angst. Every perceived slight, every sideways glance, felt like a personal attack. His temper, always simmering beneath the surface, threatened to explode at any moment. He started spending his lunch breaks in the library, burying himself in books and trying to ignore the taunts of the bullies.

Gaz, bless his heart, was just happy to be alive. He joined the school's drama club, throwing himself into rehearsals with an enthusiasm that bordered on manic. He developed a massive crush on the lead actress, a bubbly senior named Emily, and spent hours practicing his lines, hoping to impress her.

Price, trying to maintain some semblance of order, found himself acting as a reluctant counselor and mediator. He gave Soap awkward advice about girls, tried to talk Ghost out of his brooding rage, and helped Gaz navigate the treacherous waters of teenage romance. He missed the relative simplicity of international espionage.

"This is worse than dealing with Zakhaev," he muttered to himself one evening, nursing a cup of lukewarm tea in his cramped teacher's lounge.

As the week wore on, the team slowly began to adapt. Soap, after a series of disastrous attempts, finally managed to strike up a conversation with Sarah. They bonded over their shared love of music and art, and he even managed to ask her out on a date (which he promptly ruined by rambling about tactical maneuvers).

Ghost, after one particularly violent confrontation with the bullies, found an unexpected ally in a classmate named Marcus, a quiet, unassuming kid who was surprisingly good at dodging punches. They formed an unlikely friendship, bonding over their shared love of comic books and video games.

Gaz, despite his initial awkwardness, actually found himself thriving in the drama club. His natural charisma and surprisingly good acting skills earned him the respect of his peers, and he even landed a small role in the school play.

Price, while still struggling to connect with his students, found himself developing a grudging respect for their resilience and their unique perspectives. He even started to understand some of the cultural references they threw around, though he still couldn't bring himself to download TikTok.

However, their teenage struggles were soon compounded by a more pressing issue. During one of his history lessons, Price overheard two students discussing a suspicious online forum where individuals were discussing something known as "Project Chimera," the same project that had de-aged them. It seemed like someone within the school was connected to the incident.

They tried to investigate discreetly, but their teenage clumsiness and raging hormones made it difficult. Soap's attempts at sneaking around were hampered by his newfound infatuation with Sarah, while Ghost's brooding presence attracted unwanted attention. Gaz, in his eagerness to help, kept accidentally tripping alarms and drawing unwanted attention to their activities.

The task force discovered that the school's supposedly harmless science teacher, Mr. Davis, was the mastermind behind Project Chimera. He planned to weaponize the technology for world domination, or something equally ridiculous to impress the other members in the forum.

The final confrontation took place during the school's annual talent show. As Gaz was onstage, attempting to lip sync the latest pop song, Price, Soap, and Ghost confronted Davis in the school's science lab. A chaotic battle ensued, filled with malfunctioning gadgets, spilled chemicals, and awkward teenage insults. In the end, they managed to subdue Davis and disable his device, but not before the entire school was alerted to their presence.

As the week drew to a close, the effects of the temporal displacement began to wear off. The acne faded, the voices deepened, and the muscles grew back. They were once again the seasoned soldiers they were meant to be.

They left Northwood High in the dead of night, leaving behind a bewildered student body, a disgraced science teacher, and a pile of unanswered questions.

Back in their familiar surroundings, Price turned to his team, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "Well, gentlemen," he said. "We survived high school. I think we deserve a drink."

Soap chuckled, "I still can't believe I actually asked a girl out."

Ghost, surprisingly, didn't object. "At least it was… different," he admitted, his voice still a little rough.

Gaz just grinned. "I'm gonna miss drama club," he said, wistfully.

The experience had been traumatic, embarrassing, and utterly ridiculous. But it had also taught them something about themselves, about each other, and about the universal struggles of being human. And maybe, just maybe, it had made them a slightly better team. Even if they never spoke of it again.
