Call Me by Your Name

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

Everyone in the lobby of Healing Haven was stunned on the spot.

A nurse beside them looked ashen - faced, her lips trembling slightly as she murmured, "Was it... a gas tank explosion...?"

"Notify all ambulances to get ready!" A majestic and urgent shout suddenly rang out, and only then did the nurse snap back to reality.

Then Henry Mitchell rushed towards the door like an arrow leaving the bow. Having worked at Healing Haven for so long, she had never seen Henry Mitchell look so worried and flustered.

...

In the Residential Building.

Sophie Lawrence gritted her teeth and pushed with all her might to get the heavy object off her. The walkie - talkie hanging in front of her transmitted the Captain's urgent, almost distorted shout.

"Captain Sophie Lawrence, please respond! What's the situation?"

Sophie Lawrence endured the pain from all over her body and replied hoarsely, "I'm safe for now."

All around were miserable cries for help and desperate shouts for rescue. Sophie Lawrence and her teammates faced the raging sea of fire and did their best to create a firebreak, trying to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Half an hour passed, an hour passed, and two hours passed...

Sophie Lawrence's body was already extremely tired, as if every muscle was protesting, but she still held on with gritted teeth. There was only one belief in her heart, that there were still people waiting for her to rescue inside.

Suddenly, a cry for help came from the third floor.

"Help! Is there anyone? Help!"

Sophie Lawrence pressed herself tightly against the wall, then rolled over and resolutely rushed towards the direction of the sound, passing through the leaping tongues of fire.

Trapped there were a mother and daughter. As soon as the mother saw Sophie Lawrence, a glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes. She quickly handed her already unconscious child to Sophie Lawrence and pleaded with a sobbing voice, "Please! Save my daughter!"

Sophie Lawrence took the little girl and comforted softly, "Don't be afraid. My teammates will come to save you soon!"

When Sophie Lawrence rushed out of the fire, Mark brushed past her and ran straight towards the little girl's mother.

When Sophie Lawrence handed the little girl to the doctor in a white coat, for some reason, the figure of Henry Mitchell suddenly flashed through her mind.

But she didn't have any spare time to think about it and immediately turned around and rushed into the sea of fire without hesitation.

Perhaps God was moved by their heroic deeds. Suddenly, it began to rain.

With the help of the rain, the fire gradually subsided. By late at night, the big fire was finally completely extinguished.

Sophie Lawrence and her teammates walked out of the Residential Building, all looking dirty and disheveled.

After returning to the fire truck, the team members, like harvested rice seedlings, collapsed on the ground one after another.

The scene was still filled with wails, and the sirens rang through the sky, as if mourning for this disaster.

Doctors and nurses scurried among the wounded without a moment's rest, and everyone's face was full of tension and seriousness.

Sophie Lawrence summoned up her strength to stand up slowly despite her weak body. Her voice was extremely hoarse due to long - term shouting and inhaling smoke: "Everyone, count off!"

"One!"

"Two!"

...

"Twenty - three. Count - off completed!"

Not a single person was missing. Sophie Lawrence seemed to have a heavy burden lifted from her heart and let out a deep breath.

At this time, she belatedly felt a sharp pain in her shoulder: "Hiss - "

Mark quickly shouted, "Doctor!"

Sophie Lawrence was so tired that before the doctor arrived, she leaned against the fire truck and her consciousness almost slipped into a slumber.

In a daze, a figure in a white coat suddenly appeared in front of her. Sophie Lawrence laboriously raised her head to look. When she saw who it was, she couldn't help but be startled.

She looked at Henry Mitchell and her voice was as hoarse as a broken bellows: "You... you're here too?"

"If you can be here, of course I can be here." Henry Mitchell's expression was as cold as an icy lake in winter. He slowly crouched down to check Sophie Lawrence's injury.

Sophie Lawrence felt an inexplicable sense of guilt and quickly said, "I'm fine. I'm used to it."

Henry Mitchell didn't say anything but just silently examined her.

Sophie Lawrence's expression immediately dropped a little. She seemed to muster a great deal of courage and murmured, "Did you read the text message I sent you?"

Henry Mitchell's movement paused slightly, but he didn't answer Sophie Lawrence's question. His tone was as cold as ice chips: "Preliminary diagnosis shows a dislocated arm. You need to go back to Healing Haven in an ambulance for further examination."

After saying that, he withdrew his hand, stood up, and walked towards the next patient.

It was already early in the morning when they arrived at Healing Haven.

Sophie Lawrence sat quietly in the emergency chair, allowing Henry Mitchell to help her reset her arm.

Henry Mitchell didn't say a word from start to finish. Sophie Lawrence couldn't help but speak in a low voice.

"In the past, you always said that you wanted to be a brain doctor. I didn't expect you ended up in the emergency department."

Henry Mitchell's eyes darkened a little, and he just said faintly, "I don't remember."

Sophie Lawrence couldn't help but be stunned for a moment, and then she heard Henry Mitchell's cold voice again: "All right. Let the next patient in."

A bitter smile tugged at the corners of Sophie Lawrence's mouth. She hugged her arm and walked out slowly.

When passing by Henry Mitchell's office, Sophie Lawrence's steps suddenly stopped.

She saw a long - haired woman randomly rummaging through Henry Mitchell's desk in the office. Sophie Lawrence's eyebrows immediately furrowed.

"What are you doing?!"

Chloe Morgan just glanced at Sophie Lawrence and ignored her words, and her actions didn't stop.

Sophie Lawrence stepped into the office and grabbed her.

Chloe Morgan impatiently clicked her tongue and said arrogantly, "Old woman, let's get to know each other. I'm Chloe Morgan, Henry Mitchell's girlfriend."
