Chapter 23: Chapter 23
Alpha Arlo Bianchi - POV
Ever since I was discharged from the hospital, I made it my mission to ignore Bella because I know that she must be having a lot of questions right now, and I am not ready to answer them.
"You are just wasting our life when you know you can undo this spell," Leo growled in my head. He has been livid ever since I was admitted to the hospital and when the pack doctor informed us that we only had about a few months left to live.
"I cannot put Bella's life in jeopardy, Leo. You did hear what the witch said. Only the strongest of them all. And you know very well that there is a species stronger than werewolves."
"What if the witch was hinting about a mate," Leo asked me, but I shook my head.
"I know that would not be possible. Now stop putting ideas into my head." I scolded him as I put my block up.
"Are you okay?" I looked up when I saw Jacob standing near the doorway, and I motioned for him to come inside.
"Did you find out who attacked me a week ago?" I asked him as he took a seat opposite me.
"They are rogues, Arlo. But they were quite unusual. They were very fast and strong, and they even managed to hide their scents as soon as they crossed the borders." he explained, and I nodded my head. Could this be the same rogue that Alpha Ross complained about?
"Did you manage to see any of them?" I asked him, and he shook his head.
"One of our warriors reported that they were wearing an all-black suit that covered their face, including their eyes."
"Double the patrols in the border and send out our trackers to see if they can find these creatures," I commanded, and Jacob nodded his head as he got up from his place pulled out two envelopes, and placed them in front of me. "What is this?" I asked him with a frown.
"Invitation for the annual ball. I know you never attend these events, but now that Bella is here, I think you should consider attending this one. It might help us strengthen our alliance with other packs as well." Jacob suggested as I tore the envelope and took out the invitation.
The card was done in a beautiful orange and silver. "You know very well why I don't attend all that, Jacob," I asked him as I threw it on my table and stared at my beta.
"I already asked the hosting pack, and they are only going to play soft music. And there wouldn't be any loud noises." Jacob reassured me, but I shook my head.
"I am not sure, but I will think about it," I told him, and he nodded his head as he walked out of my office. I walked towards the small bar that was in my office and poured myself a generous amount of alcohol as I gulped them all down in one go. Ever since that incident, a lot has changed in my life, and I hated it. I cannot withstand the sound of loud music or anything that would trigger a headache.
I poured another glass of whiskey, down it all in one go, walked towards my window, and looked outside. The sun was setting on the horizon, and I saw Bella walking with Sofia in the garden. "Go to mate," Leo said, but I shut him out as I stared at her.
There is something about her that has been constantly nagging me ever since she saved me from dying of silver poisoning. There is something more about my mate that she isn't telling me, and I intend to find that out sooner.
But first, I need to know which pack she belonged to before becoming a rogue and what made her give up on her pack.
Isabella Martini - POV
It's been four days since that incident, and Arlo has been doing everything that he could to ignore me. "Bella." I looked up from the book that I was reading when I saw Sofia standing near my door.
"Come in," I told her as I placed the book on my bed and got up.
"I have some news. But shall we go outside and talk about it?" Sofia asked me, and I nodded my head. I made my way into the closet and grabbed my sandals as I walked back out.
"Is it about the witch?" I asked her as the elevator doors closed behind us, and Sofia nodded her head.
"I don't know whether it is good news or not. But I think I will let you decide on that." Sofia said as we reached the ground floor. We soon walked out of the pack house, and Sofia led me to the back of the pack house where a beautiful garden was located.
There were rows and rows of rose bushes, and every bush was filled to the brim with vibrant colors of red roses. As I looked ahead, I saw that all these bushes led to a small raised stage that had a table and a few sets of chairs around it. "Why didn't anyone show me this earlier?" I asked her astonished by the sheer beauty of this place.
"That's because no one is allowed to come in here." this made me stop in my tracks as I stared at Sofia. "This was Arlo's mother's garden. But ever since she died, Arlo hates it if someone comes in here."
"And you want me dead?" I asked her, but she shook her head as a smile formed on her face.
"Don't worry, I know Arlo can never hurt a hair on your head," she said, which made me raise an eyebrow at her. "You're his mate. And I have always wanted to see this, so that is why I brought you here as well."
"I hope this day does not turn into a nightmare," I mumbled as I followed Sofia towards the stage.
