Chapter 27: Inn
Xueling and Yu Tian landed in a nearby town.
"Why didn't you go to the sect? I thought you wanted to return to the sect the most," Yu Tian asked.
"We are not in the best condition. If we encounter someone from my brothers' side like this, it'll be hard to protect ourselves. It's better to recover first, then go," she said.
Yu Tian nodded. He had also calculated that the chances of them getting back to the sect alive at this moment were incredibly low. He remembered the Grand Elder and sighed.
It seemed the sect was rotten to the core.
Well, he didn't think this mattered much. The two of them had been able to beat the Grand Elder. Even though they had to rely on some luck, it still showed that their power was real when working together.
They should be able to survive most scenarios as long as they worked together.
"Working together..." The thought lingered. He glanced at Xueling and shook his head.
"What now?" he asked.
"Well, we find an inn to stay the night," she said.
"You think we'll find a place?" he asked. "It's almost midnight. Most of them are probably full by now."
"Ah, I didn't think of that," she said. "Well, maybe we'll find one."
Yu Tian wasn't that confident. With his calculation ability, he already knew that all the inns in the town were full.
The two of them went to a few inns, and they were all full.
They now stood at the entrance of the last one.
"What do we do if this one is full too?" he asked.
"If it's full..." She reached for her sword. "Then I can only use my last resort."
Even Yu Tian was shocked by this. Well, it made sense. This was the world of cultivators. Mortals didn't really matter. With her cultivation, if she demanded a room, she would definitely get it.
Just like he had expected, this one was full too. At that moment, Xueling's aura flared.
"Bring me your boss right now," she demanded.
The poor employee ran quickly when she noticed that the customer was actually a cultivator.
A few seconds later, she came out with the boss.
Yu Tian observed the boss. He seemed to be at the Qi Gathering realm, but Yu Tian easily confirmed his real realm to be at the early stages of Foundation Establishment. When the man saw Xueling, he was surprised for a fraction of a second but quickly fixed his expression, though both Xueling and Yu Tian caught this reaction.
"May I ask why the lady wishes to see me?" the man asked respectfully to Xueling.
Xueling looked at him. She thought to herself that by the man's earlier reaction, he had definitely recognized her, but he didn't use her title. He was pretending not to know her. She wondered if he was plotting something. She began reaching for her sword, but Yu Tian appeared before her.
"As you can see, our young lady here is tired and wants a room to rest," he said. He then looked directly into the man's eyes. "The lady is really impatient, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't delay this matter."
The man looked to the side, glancing at Xueling who was reaching to her sword. He smiled brightly.
"Of course, come in," the man said.
The assistant rushed over, whispering something in his ear. The man showed an angry expression.
"I don't care. Can't you see we have an important guest? Just refund a room," he ordered, and the assistant rushed away.
He then smiled at the two before him. "Forgive me for showing such an embarrassing scene."
Yu Tian thought to himself that it seemed the matter was solved. Even so, this man was definitely suspicious.
[100%]
…
He seemed to have recognized Xueling before but then pretended not to.
He wondered if this man was from the first son's faction.
[0%]
"The second then?"
The number shifted and showed a hundred percent. Yu Tian thought to himself that it made sense. The second controlled the inner and outer sects. This included external factions like mortal towns near the sect.
He thought to himself that Xueling also seemed to have noticed this. He used voice transmission and told her to calm down. This was not the right time to cause a scene.
Since they were already injured, it was best they recover first.
According to his calculations, the man didn't seem to know that they knew his secret. Although they could win against him, the man would most likely report to the higher-ups and they'd be on the run the whole night despite being injured.
Seeing the man doing business in a mortal town, he probably didn't have that high of a cultivation talent and thus wasn't important. If this was the case, then the man would definitely be greedy and wouldn't tell the higher-ups, planning to take advantage of this to gain some benefits.
He had deliberately said that the lady was tired, gauging his reaction. The man seemed to have realized that Xueling was injured and would think that he had a chance. They just had to recover and wait for when he made his move.
He told all this to Xueling, who agreed.
At that time, the assistant came out. She bowed before the two of them.
"Please follow me," she said, walking away.
The two followed.
After they were gone, the boss's pleasant expression changed to a predatory one.
"Kekeke, to think that you'd bring yourself here," he mumbled.
He thought to himself that although he was of the second son's faction, he wasn't treated all that well by his superiors. Being told to conduct business outside to make money - why would a cultivator need mortal money? Wasn't this clearly looking down on him?
Well, no matter. This time, he would capture this lady and bring her personally to the second son. When he did, he would definitely receive immense benefits.
"She seems to be injured. Seeing as she chose to come here injured instead of going straight to the sect, she must not have any healing pills and is afraid of running into the wrong people," he thought.
The only thing he didn't understand was the boy next to her. He seemed to just be at the first layer of Qi Gathering. Why was she walking around with him?
"Is it an escort?" he wondered. "Well, no matter. Since he's with her, I'll take him out too."
