Calculating My Way To Immortality

Chapter 10: Alchemy

In an open clearing somewhere inside the Black Forest, everything seemed calm until the ground suddenly blew apart, creating a two-meter radius hole.

Yu Tian then jumped from the hole, landing at the edge. He fell to his knee, breathing heavily.

He thought to himself that he had no plan of playing the monster's game, so he was going to end this quickly.

He slowly rose to his feet and clutched his sword, looking around nervously in all directions.

He suddenly noticed something moving underground and readied his sword, facing the direction of the approaching monster. When the moving ground was just a few feet before him, he roared and charged, stabbing into the ground.

Suddenly, he noticed something strange - he felt his sword get stuck in the ground. "Oh no," he thought, turning around. It was a trap all along. He saw a huge rat-like monster charging toward him from behind, ready to tear him apart.

When it was just a few feet away from his body, his scared face suddenly transformed into a smug smile. "Caught you..." he said before channeling energy into the sword, instantly breaking from the earth lock and piercing toward the monster's heart.

The monster's expression twisted as it realized it had been tricked, but since it was in the air, it was unable to dodge and the sword went right through its chest, piercing into its heart.

Yu Tian stepped onto the monster's body and pulled out his sword.

He then swung it to shake off the blood. He thought to himself that there was no way he could run out of energy that quickly. Although a normal body refining seventh layer would've probably run out of energy after executing that move he had, with his inner core, he could perform five more moves like that before he began to feel tired.

Since the monster didn't seem like the fighting type and seemed to target weakened opponents, he had decided to pretend that he had run out of energy, using his calculation ability to predict its movement before striking it down. It seemed he was getting used to his ability.

He looked around him, thinking to himself that he should probably get away before stronger monsters got attracted by the commotion. He walked over to the herbs and picked a few that he needed. There was no need to pick all of them as the next generation could benefit from them too.

As he was about to leave, he suddenly had an idea. He wondered if the alchemist's remains were still here. [87%] the number showed. He smiled - he had almost missed a treasure.

He thought to himself that if he could find the remains, maybe he could find a spatial pouch or something with his items. Currently, with these herbs, the chances of her healing were high, but she didn't have high chances of recovering her full combat power.

But if he was to get the remains of the alchemist, he might get a pill refining method and maybe even a furnace. With those, plus his Path to Heaven method, he should be able to refine pills for her. Those had a much higher chance of recovering her full strength.

He quickly began scanning the area.

Yu Tian broke through the earth and appeared before a human skeleton. He wondered if these were the remains of that alchemist.

[100%] the number showed.

He looked around. He didn't see any spatial pouches or something of the kind nearby.

He was disappointed. Well, either way, "Thanks, senior," he said, bowing to him. Although he couldn't find his treasures, the herbs were still good.

As he was bowing, he noticed something shiny. "What's this?" he wondered, reaching toward one of the fingers. "This is... a space ring," he thought. This was much more valuable than the spatial bag.

He nodded in understanding - secondary professionists, though not strong, were known for their riches, so it made sense for them to not use things like spatial pouches but rather spatial rings.

He scanned the contents of the spatial ring. Inside, he found a qi gathering manual, a few herb seeds, two qi building pills, a foundation building pill, an alchemy furnace, and a pill refining manual.

He smiled - he had really hit the jackpot this time.

He paid his respect to the senior one more time before jumping out of the earth, burying the entire underground cave system behind him. He thought to himself that he should go back now. He had already caused so much commotion here and monsters were bound to come.

On his way back, Yu Tian encountered some wild chickens and managed to catch three for dinner.

Xueling was sleeping inside the cave when she heard footsteps through the ground vibrations.

She opened her eyes, slowly reaching for her sword.

But before she could grab her sword, Yu Tian appeared in the entrance.

"Guess who's back?" he spoke excitedly.

She took back her hand, rising to a sitting position. "You're back earlier than expected," she said.

Yu Tian smiled. Well, last time he had lost himself when cultivating and lost track of time. "I got lucky," he said.

"Is that so," she said, looking at the wild chickens he was carrying.

"That's right, you won't believe what I found," he said.

A few minutes later, the two of them sat outside the cave. "So this is what you found?" she asked, looking at the items Yu Tian had laid out before her. It was a few herbs, a pill refining manual, and an alchemist furnace.

"That's right," he said excitedly.

She looked at him, analyzing his face.

She thought to herself that to think he was so innocent and didn't know that pill refining took more than just having the resources to make pills. People spent their entire lives studying it and never managed to refine anything.

She thought to herself that since he was doing it for her, there was no need to crush his hopes. She would just let him find out on his own - maybe then he'd understand. Besides…his enthusiasm was kinda cute.

Yu Tian met her gaze, wondering why she was giving him such a look. It was the same look he used to receive when he was begging in the streets. Well, it didn't matter.

"What do you think?" he asked.

"It's very interesting. Good luck," she said with a bright smile.

"She doesn't believe I can do it, does she?"

[100%] He smiled. Well, most people would think he was crazy. After all, he had never learned pill refining before and wanted to make an eighth-grade pill.

Well, he also didn't have much confidence, but it didn't hurt to try.
