Goddamn, what a year so far. This is going to be rambly; I apologize in advance.
What's Going On
Last week I noticed that the rent from my account was wrong so I contacted the company that owns the home I lease. What we discovered on the call was that my lease had ended at the start of the month, and nothing in their system had caught on to that fact.
To me, that made a certain amount of sense, because I had spoken with them before about moving month-to-month once my original lease ended. I assumed we needed to sign something new, and we'd be golden.
Apparently, the company didn't agree, because once we got off the phone, I received an email saying that they had decided NOT to go month-to-month, and that I was expected to vacate the property by 5:00 PM the following day.

Now, we're a family of four. And we had NO plans on moving. So obviously, the idea that we could get packed and leave within 28 hours is a joke.
We're still exploring our options. I don't have enough money to put down the various security deposits + first and last month's rent on a new place, which is a major hurdle. I also need to hire a moving company to actually get our belongings to somewhere new, because I can't ask people to skip work for the days it would require me to get things packed and moved. My partner will obviously try to help as best she can, but she's partially disabled and already on a cane. I'm not asking her to harm herself further by trying to do emergency physical labor.
I don't know if I'm going to wake up tomorrow to the sherriff trying to serve me notice to evict, or if the emails I sent out to the company will actually find a human who will give us some extra time to figure things out.

What matters is that I will have to take the week off to deal with all this.
