Part-163
Alex's face paled. He had been caught. He knew that if he didn't come clean, James and his friends would expose him.
"Okay, maybe I know something about Spider Eyes," he admitted reluctantly. "But I'm not involved in their scams."
James didn't believe him. He knew that Alex was lying. But he also knew that they needed to get more information out of him.
"Tell us what you know," James demanded. "Or we'll tell everyone about your involvement."
Alex hesitated for a moment, his mind racing. He knew that if he didn't cooperate, his reputation would be ruined.
As Alex's confession poured out, his voice trembling with emotion, a wave of sympathy washed over James, Ryan, and Sourov. They had expected him to be a hardened criminal, but his vulnerability caught them off guard.
Covering his own eyes, Alex continued, "Yeah, I did it. What else could I do? My parents died a year ago, leaving me with only my little sister, who's just four years old. I don't have any relatives who can take care of us, let alone give me a decent job. I'm just a student; no one is going to hire me. I had no choice but to take this path. After all, they say necessity knows no law.
"I know it was wrong, but I was desperate. I couldn't just sit by and watch my sister suffer. I had to do something, anything. I saw an opportunity, and I took it. I thought it was just a way to make some quick money. I never imagined it would turn into something so big."
A wave of sympathy washed over the trio. They could understand the desperation that had driven Alex to such extremes. His story was a stark reminder of the harsh realities of life, especially for those who were struggling to make ends meet.
"I'm sorry," James said, his voice filled with empathy. "I didn't know..."
Alex shook his head. "It's okay," he replied. "I made my choice. I have to live with the consequences."
James knew that Alex was right. He couldn't undo what had been done. But he could help him. He could make sure that Alex and his sister were taken care of.
"We can help you," James said, his voice filled with determination. "We can find you a job, and we can help you get your sister into a good school."
Alex's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?" he asked, his voice filled with hope.
James nodded. "We'll do whatever we can," he replied.
"But you really should consider leaving this dangerous path before it’s too late," Sourov advised, his tone serious. "We’ll keep your involvement a secret, but only because you came clean and told us everything. In return, we need you to help us gather more information about Spider Eyes. Can you do that?"
Alex's expression softened, a mix of relief and sorrow crossing his face. "You’d really forgive me, just like that?"
The trio exchanged glances, each one silently agreeing with the others. Ryan then stepped forward, nodding, "Yes, we will. But you’ll have to work with us as our inside man, especially if any legal trouble comes up."
