Part-148
As they studied together, Mili asked him for help with a physics problem. She had always been good at sciences, but this particular concept was giving her trouble. James, who had a knack for explaining complex ideas in simple terms, was able to help her understand the problem.
As they worked together, James couldn't help but notice how focused and determined Mili was. She was a formidable opponent, and he knew he would have to be at his best to beat her.
But as he looked at her, he couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration. She was intelligent, hardworking, and incredibly competitive. And for some reason, he found himself enjoying her company more than he had expected.
Perhaps, amidst the chaos of the online scam investigation, he had found an unexpected friendship.
As James and Mili continued their study session, a figure approached their table. It was Toya, her expression serious.
Without a preamble, she reached out and snatched James's phone from his hand. Both James and Mili were taken aback by her audacity.
"What are you doing?" James demanded, trying to retrieve his phone.
Toya ignored him, her attention focused on the device. After a few moments, she handed it back to him, a cryptic smile playing on her lips. "Call me after school," she said before turning and walking away.
Mili's eyes widened in surprise. "What was that about?" she asked, her voice filled with curiosity.
James shrugged, equally puzzled. "I have no idea," he replied. Though he knows that it was because of the case. She may told him, she will let them meet with her grandma.
Mili snorted. "More likely, she's interested in you," she said with tone of teasing.
James blushed, embarrassed by the suggestion. "Don't be ridiculous," he retorted. "She hates me."
Mili just smiled, "We'll see about that," she said.
The entire class seemed to have noticed the interaction between James and Toya. Whispers and giggles filled the room as students speculated about their relationship. Some even started shipping them, creating imaginary scenarios about their future together. They also imagined a love triangle involving James, Mili, and Toya, and wondered what would happen with the James, Ryan, and Mili love triangle, speculating if they would settle it among themselves.
After class break, he met up with Ryan and Sourov. He told them about his encounter with Toya and the mysterious phone number.
"Maybe she knows something about the scammers," Ryan suggested.
"Or maybe she's just trying to mess with you," Sourov added, a hint of amusement in his voice.
James shrugged. "I don't know," he admitted. "But I'm going to call her after school and find out."
After school, James called Toya as promised. She answered on the first ring, her voice sounding surprisingly calm.
"I've been thinking about what you said," she began. "I'm willing to help."
James was taken aback by her sudden change of heart. "Really?" he asked, unable to hide his surprise.
"Yes," Toya replied. "I want to help catch those scammers. They're taking advantage of innocent people, and it's not right."
