Chapter 41 Secrets Are Stolen
While Hao Ziqiang was waiting for his brother's helpers to arrive, a white man clutching a black briefcase was frantically running away in an unmodified alley somewhere in Hangdao City in Longguo. Behind him, there were shouts of "Don't run!" and "Stop! Bastard!" The sound gradually getting closer made the man's already pale face even paler. Reaching the guardrail at the end of the alley, the white man looked down and saw freight trains speeding across the track.
Seeing this, he hesitated. But when he heard rapid footsteps behind him, the white man gritted his teeth, took two steps back, and then leaped over the railing. Amidst exclamations behind him, he landed heavily on the speeding train car. Although the impact was fierce and his breath nearly taken away, seeing that he had landed firmly on the train brought a proud smile to his face. Raising his middle finger at the plainclothes man lying on the railing in the distance, he endured the pain and climbed down from the edge of the train to enter the interior.
To his surprise, as soon as he entered the car, a cold and hard object was pressed against the back of his head. "Do not move," came a voice from behind, freezing the smile on his face. Three days later, in a basement in Xuandao City, Sun Ming was examining the contents of the black briefcase on the coffee table: a wallet, a stack of papers, a cell phone, and some cash. Despite repeated checks, they appeared to be ordinary objects. His frown deepened as he pondered this.
At that moment, the door opened and a plainclothes man entered. "Boss, this guy's mouth is too tough, I can't pry it open." Sun Ming stood up and headed outside. In the room where the white man was held, his face was pale, swollen like a pig's head, and his fingers were dripping with blood, indicating severe torture. Yet, he kept mumbling that he was wrongly accused and they had the wrong person. Sun Ming was not swayed by the pitiful sight.
He slammed the table in anger. "You bastard, tell me, where are the things you stole hidden?" Startled by Sun Ming's shout, the white man raised his head, trembling, to meet Sun Ming's gaze. Recognizing the leader, he smiled bitterly. "Team Leader Sun, I've told you everything. I didn't steal anything. You must have made a mistake." Sun Ming scoffed, "Made a mistake? Then why did you run?" "I... I thought you were bad people." "Fart! You jumped on the train because you thought we were bad guys? Then you're really decisive!" Sun Ming retorted sarcastically, emphasizing "decisive."
With cold eyes fixed on Bukar John, the employee from the urban planning and construction department, Sun Ming seethed with anger. John had been tasked with participating in the anti-gravity engine project on the island in Xuandao City. The anti-gravity engine is cutting-edge technology of the Dragon Kingdom and is strictly protected by national departments.
Not long ago, the security management system of Xuandao City suddenly issued an alarm, indicating that someone had hacked into the core part and stolen some confidential data concerning Xuandao City's anti-gravity engine. This news shocked Sun Ming, the leader of the Security Administration, who immediately dispatched people to seal off the core area and launched an investigation. Soon, Sun Ming discovered a suspect: John.
As Sun Ming and his team prepared to arrest John, he seemed to have been forewarned and escaped from the work area. Sun Ming and his team pursued him, leading to the eventful scene that followed.
After capturing John, they thought the briefcase in his possession contained the confidential information about the anti-gravity engine. However, upon inspection, Sun Ming found that it contained only ordinary documents, with nothing suspicious.
In response, Sun Ming took John to the basement and attempted to extract information from him through torture, hoping to force him to reveal the location of the hidden data. Unexpectedly, John proved to be exceptionally resilient. Despite the various methods employed by Sun Ming's men, including the use of Veritaserum, John remained silent.
This situation made Sun Ming realize he was dealing with a formidable opponent. Only trained spies could keep secrets under the influence of Veritaserum, and getting them to talk was no easy task.
Looking at the seemingly innocent John in front of him, Sun Ming felt infuriated. At that moment, Sun Ming's phone rang. He picked it up to hear an old man's voice on the other end.
"Sun Ming, did you capture an engineer from the Eagle Kingdom?" the voice asked.
Hearing the voice of his superior, Sun Ming replied truthfully, "Yes, Director, I suspect this person stole the anti-gravity engine information."
"Did he confess?" the director inquired.
"No, this guy's mouth is too tough. We can't get him to speak," Sun Ming admitted, feeling frustrated. Despite his vast experience in the field, he couldn't extract information from a foreign colleague, leaving him embarrassed, especially in front of his boss.
After a brief silence, his superior spoke again. "Now the Eagle Country is demanding we return one of their citizens. We have limited time. I can give you three more days at most. If you can't make him talk in three days, you must bring him back alive."
"Damn it, these bastards still have the nerve to make demands of us?" Sun Ming vented, angered by the situation. Realizing he had let his temper flare, he quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, sir, I lost my temper."
"It's okay. I understand your anger. But our country's investment in Xuandao City has made many countries envious, and our nation is under immense pressure. You must understand," his superior reassured him.
"I understand," Sun Ming conceded.
"Three days, Sun Ming, make the most of it," his superior urged before hanging up.
As Sun Ming hung up, he looked at John in the adjacent room. Perhaps sensing something, John raised his swollen face and met Sun Ming's gaze. Despite his battered appearance, Sun Ming noticed the slight smirk at the corner of John's mouth, dripping with contempt and ridicule.
Infuriated once more, Sun Ming commanded harshly, "Beat him! Beat him until he is defeated!"
