Two days after we arrived Lyanna went into labor after supper. Lyanna's ordeal lasted almost a day. Late the next afternoon Lyanna gave birth to Brandon snow. With the help of the healers and midwives Lyanna was able to survive the childbirth without me intervening. I didn't have full access to my magic so I was only able to do a rudimentary scan of the minds of the healers to see if there would be a problem. From what I gathered there could have been a complication but because the healers were able to catch it early on it was able to be avoided before it became a problem. I did encourage them to wash their hands with hot water and clean hands when delivering my cousin.
It was on the third day after Lyanna gave birth that Princess Elia wished to meet with my aunt. After entering Lyanna's chamber, she asked for the meeting to be in private. I glanced at my aunt, she then nodded at me for me to go. So, I made my way out of her chamber. I might have left but I was not going to let these discussions happen without me knowing what they're talking about.
The window in the hallway was on the same side of the tower as her chamber and was probably only about three feet from each other from the outside. I was leaning out the window in the hallway While holding up a small mirror, I positioned it so I could see through the window and using the reflection from a mirror in her chamber. I can make out shadowy shapes from the reflection. Slowing my breathing I started to concentrate, and I could pick up the conversation that was going on in her room even with Their voice being so low.
I missed part of the conversation but caught up with it when Elia asked to hold Brandon. To my surprise my aunt without hesitation handed her child to Elia. Looking down at Brandon. Elia declared him the next king of Westeros. After a long pause Lyanna informed her that he does not have a claim to the iron throne and that he is not true born. Elia looked up fast at my aunt and whispered that she knew that it was not true that she knew about the fact that Lyanna was married. With the death of her son and daughter, Brandon was all that was left of Rhaegar. Realizing from the way she was talking that Elia if she didn't love him truly cared for Rhaegar.
My eavesdropping was interrupted when Ned Stark followed by Bolton walked over to where I was standing. Before Ned could say anything I put my finger to my lips, gesturing towards the stairs before I walked down the steps. Knowing that Ned doesn't know what the word subtlety means. I wanted to put distance between Lyanna's chambers before having to listen to Ned, whining.
As I suspected Ned was upset that he was not allowed to see Lyanna. He seems to be insulted that Elia was allowed to see her and he was still barred from entering her chamber. I then again informed him that she did not wish to see him and I am just following through with what she wishes. She was going through labor and the last thing we needed was her to be upset while giving birth.
Tuning out Ned complaining I glanced at Bolton realizing who has informed Ned of the meeting between the two princesses. I still haven't made my decision and how to deal with him. Would it be better to just kill him off and end his family and deal with the problem of trying to seize his land without branding him as a traitor. Or should I wait until the north is more firmly under my control before falsifying evidence to have him and the rest of his men in leadership positions, executed then seizing his land as payment for treason and rebellion.
The next day I talked to Lyanna about Ned coming in and speaking to her. Now that she has some time to rest and to recover from childbirth, she agreed to see Ned. I ordered Theon Snow, and Howland Reed to be in the chamber. I informed him that, if Lyanna seemed to be agitated by his present, they were ordered by me to remove him from the chamber so that he must watch what he says, and how he says it. I did not stay and listen to their conversations since I knew Theon would relay anything important to me.
A week after their discussion the healers informed me that they believe that Aunt Lyanna was well enough to travel and even to take a boat trip from Wyl to white harbor. It took us about eight days to travel through the Princes Pass before we arrived at Castle Wyl in the Boneways. When we arrived in the courtyard, we were greeted by my uncle and regent Mors. Mors seemed happy and pleased to see us especially since I asked Elia to ride with me into the castle. After giving us guest rights with bread and salt. He excitedly invited Elia into the castle and had the castle servants draw her a bath so she may refresh herself. That night while having dinner we met young Lord Wyl who was only two years old.
Knowing the reputation of the house Wyl I was worried that we might have been responsible for the death of the current Lord's father. I had checked to see if we had captured him or someone had claimed his death after the battles. I found no information about it. Nor did we find any sigil of his house. While talking to the regent I had learned that we had nothing to fear since the poor man died of sickness while traveling with his bannerman. I'm assuming from what little information that they were able to gather and were willing to share with me. That it was probably dysentery that he died from. After a day of rest and not wishing to hold the ship captains longer than necessary I had my men and my aunt as well as the healers board one of the two vessels heading north.
To prevent Ned from causing problems and also giving him something to do. I had ordered him to take Dawn to Starfall. I wanted him to return Arthur's body to his ancestral home. From Starfall, he wants to sail to the ancestral homes of the other fallen Kings Guards to return their armor and weaponry to their families.
Taking 50 of my spearmen, as well as my uncle Rodrik. We got on the third ship. House Wyl decided to send 30 soldiers with us as an honor guard to escort Princess Elia to Sunspear. Before the ship set sail, I had water dumped into the boxes, holding the mountain and piggy. I wish to remove any filth that has built up. Making sure that my special boxes were secured and that my cargo was not too damaged and can still be appreciated by the two princes.
The sun was just started rising when we saw the first sign of land. The seas were calm and the air was warm as we sailed towards the port at the edge of the shadow city. The sky was painted crimson from the rising sun with rolling red stained clouds, passing over us.
Sunspear, the Old Palace, was a magnificent castle that stood tall and proud on the Broken Arm. The castle was surrounded on three sides by the sea, and on the fourth side by the shadow city, a bustling metropolis that was home to thousands of people. I had read of course about it knowing that this was going to be my destination. The drawings and the description could not properly describe the beauty I was seeing. With the sun rising behind us bathing the city in its reddish light.
As we got off the ship, I looked around and observed how the docks were already busy with traders and merchants preparing their vessels for departure. Just taking it in and being amazed with how busy the port was even at this early hour.
Before we were even able to leave the docks and start our journey towards the castle we were intercepted by Martel men at arms. After seeing Princess Elia, a man from the group left in a hurry. Another man who seemed to be the leader of the soldiers walked up to Princess Elia with tears coming down his eyes before he knelt in front of her. Elia must have recognized him since she got down and hugged him lifting him up from his kneeling position. Before we even arrived in the castle we were intercepted again by another group this one led by two men.
Prince Doran Martell is truly a remarkable man. At 40 years old, he has faced many challenges in his life, including a walking disability that requires him to use a cane. But despite this obstacle, he remains cautious and calm, always perfectly timing his actions and words when faced with any challenge. His persuasive tone is powerful and effective, allowing him to navigate even the most difficult situations with ease. That man was nowhere to be seen as he hobbled along behind his brother. Right now, we could see the raw emotion. Seeing a man who had all his masks down showing his face rotating with the expression of confusion, hopefulness, and joy upon seeing his sister.
The other man had a striking presence - tall, slender, and graceful, with a fitness that speaks to a lifetime of dedicated physical activity. His face, though lined and saturnine, is just as striking as the rest of him. Thin eyebrows frame piercing, black eyes, which seem to dart about with a keen intelligence. His nose lends an air of nobility. The grin that was on his face, looks painful as he ran towards your sister.
You can see their fear and worry start to fade away from them in real time. As they realized that their sister is safe and at home. They had feared the worst when they received word of the sack of King's Landing and the brutal murder of her children. But now, seeing her standing before them, they felt a relief. "You're alive!" Prince Oberyn exclaimed as he rushed forward to embrace his sister. Princess Elia hugged him back tightly, tears streaming down her face. "I'm alive," she whispered. "But Rhaegar...our children..." Doran stepped forward and put a hand on her shoulder. "We know, sister. We know.
Me and my men stood back while we were surrounded by Martel guards while Elia informed her brother about my actions in protecting her. After hearing that Oberyn slowly walked over to me picking me up from under my arm he started swinging me around while laughing and telling me how grateful he was with me helping his sister return home. Kinda creeped out from all of this. I frantically tried to get out of his grip while he just laughed louder while spinning me faster.
Thankfully his brother and Elia came to my rescue and told him to put me down. As I was finally put down all I could feel is the world spinning as I wobbled unsteadily on my feet. As the world started to stop spinning I looked up at Oberyn and glared at him. I then realized he did something that not even the rocking of the ships in the sea did. As I doubled over and vomited.
After that Elia and Prince Doran apologized for the action of their sibling while Oberyn just seemed to be amused by the whole situation. I was provided bread and salt before I was escorted into the castle and then was provided a room so I can get myself cleaned up. After changing I was led by one of the castle servants into a hall where several dornish Lords had gathered. They thanked me for my assistance in returning Elia. I nodded to their gratitude. I then had my uncle hand me documents before I passed it to Doran that I have been given the authority to make agreements in the name of the crown to bring an end to this war. At this time, I also presented the chest containing the prisoners. I informed all the Lords that they were responsible for the death of the Prince and the Princess. That I am sure that they can find adequate ways of punishing them. I also informed them of the soldiers that I had and paled for being connected and supporting these men and their vile acts. I also informed him that supposedly Tywin Lannister knew nothing about what his men ended up doing. I made it very clear that I didn't believe a single word that I said.
It took three days to negotiate peace with the Martell and Dorne. Dorne will pay only half the taxes to the crown for the next 15 years. For the next 10 years a seat on the small council will be available to a candidate nominated by Dorne. They will recognize Robert as the next king of the seven kingdoms. They will recognize Robert's true born children claim to the throne afterwards. I was very careful in noting that only Robert's children and only his true born would be supported by the north or Dorne. I had that line confounded that it will appear after about five years. Copies of the documents were made for everyone in the alliance to have. After the copies were made both Prince Doran and me put our seals on the documents.
I stayed for another four days enjoying the scenery. While I was waiting for a ship that will take me to White Harbor. I especially enjoyed checking out goods at the market, finding several specimens of seeds and several unique items that I purchased to take back with me to the north.
Eventually I was able to get a ship and was able to charter it to the north. Getting my uncle and my men on board I was again thanked and hugged by Elia and forced a handshake from Prince Oberyn who tried to give me a hug. Boarding the ship, I watched as the crew work to get the ship ready to sail into the sea. I decided to go and rest towards the back of the ship as I watched Sunspear slowly shrink as we sailed away. For the first time in almost a year I felt all my worrying and scheming slowly ease up. I was able to relax and let my mind rest. Knowing that this will be probably the last time I can just let my mind wander. When I finally returned to Winterfell I knew the work would start. Excited about several of my projects That will help secure my position more firmly in the world.
