Bao Yashu's expression turned slightly grim as he explained:

"That Dou Zun Ruin was discovered just a few days ago by a mercenary squad. They stumbled upon it while being hunted in the Western Wasteland Desert. After the seal was broken, a stream of razor-sharp wind burst out and shredded the entire team into pieces. Keep in mind, every member of that team was at the Dou Huang level. And still, not one survived."

"The terrifying pressure that followed quickly alerted nearby mercenary groups, and the news soon spread to Di Gang City."

"But from what's being said, it's not an independent pocket dimension. Instead, it's a portion of the desert that a Dou Zun expert hid using spatial manipulation. Normal cultivators can't detect it at all."

Hearing this, Lin Feng asked curiously, "You said it was discovered days ago. So logically, shouldn't everything inside have already been taken? Also, this place is so close to Di Gang City, and I've heard the Earth Force Sect has a Dou Zun ancestor. Why hasn't he just gone in and swept the place clean?"

Bao Yashu chuckled and replied:

"You're not wrong. Normally, it would've been emptied out by now. But no one has entered yet because those deadly wind currents are still raging. A Dou Zong expert tried to break through earlier—and he ended up minced just the same. No one's dared try since."

"As for the Dou Zun from Earth Force Sect, he did go check it out. But the space has a restriction—only cultivators below Dou Zun can enter. If a Dou Zun forces their way in, the entire place will self-destruct. According to some insider sources, this space was set up by the original Dou Zun as a trial ground to choose an heir."

"Also, the ones who were chasing that mercenary team were two Dou Zong experts from a powerful faction in the Western Desolate Region. After they discovered the ruins, they tried to enter it themselves. One got killed by the storm winds, so they gave up and summoned their sect's Dou Zun ancestor."

"So when the Dou Zun from Earth Force Sect showed up, the one from the Western Desolate Region arrived too. The two sides couldn't reach a deal, so they just agreed to open the ruins to the public."

"Apparently, one of the major factions in the Western Desolate Region—the Golden Body Sect—even built a spatial wormhole that leads directly to the Dou Zun Ruins. Of course, if anyone from their side wants to use it, they have to pay a hefty fee."

Lin Feng couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement.

"This Golden Body Sect sure knows the logic of selling shovels instead of mining gold. Though... they probably plan to take both."

Snapping out of his thoughts, Lin Feng asked curiously, "So there are other factions in the Western Wastelands Desert?"

"There are, and quite a few," Bao Yashu nodded and continued: "The Western Wastelands Desert is vast and harsh. Many people who can't survive outside, or who've offended powerful forces and are being hunted, escape into it."

"Over time, these fugitives banded together out of necessity. Eventually, they formed a sprawling cluster of cities. They call the place the Western Desolate Region."

At this point, Bao Yashu's face showed a flicker of fear. He swallowed hard and went on: "With all those lawless people gathered together, you can imagine—there are no real rules. It's a place where the strong devour the weak. That region is utter chaos."

"People die there every day in droves. But at the same time, just as many risk their lives to go in. For profit, those people will do absolutely anything."

"Still, because many of these outlaws steal rare treasures from other parts of Central Plains, most of those items end up circulating inside the Western Desolate Region. So it's become one of the biggest black markets in Central Plains."

"Every day, countless people risk death to get their hands on high-class cultivation techniques, Dou Techniques, and pills. But even if someone is lucky enough to find what they want... few make it out alive with it."

"Likewise, mercenaries who enter the Western Wasteland Desert—if they're unlucky enough to run into people from the Western Desolate Region—aside from some powerful mercenary groups, the rest pretty much have no chance of surviving."

"And they don't just ambush those who enter the desert—sometimes they even sneak out into other parts of the Western Region to plunder, burn, and kill."

Then, as if suddenly remembering something, Bao Yashu gave Lin Feng a serious warning. "Brother, your wife is incredibly beautiful. If you're headed into the Western Wasteland Desert, you'd better be extra careful. If she gets caught by people from the Western Desolate Region... the consequences could be horrific."

"Thanks for the warning. I'll be careful."

Lin Feng nodded in acknowledgment and replied calmly.

At this point, he had a general understanding of what the Western Wasteland Desert was like.

In Lin Feng's eyes, the Western Desolate Region within the desert was basically a Central Plains version of the Black-Corner Region.

Still, he couldn't help but click his tongue inwardly.

It was just as he expected—places where one could obtain high-class cultivation techniques, Dou Techniques, and pills were always hotly contested, no matter where they were.

But on second thought, it all made perfect sense.

On the Dou Qi Continent, strength had always been the one and only law.

No matter the location, there would always be people desperate to become stronger.

Some would choose to ambush disciples of powerful factions, hoping to seize their high-grade techniques and pills.

Others, often disciples from major forces themselves, would simply steal the sect's treasures outright...then flee to some hidden corner of the world, where they could sell them off in exchange for cultivation resources.

And over time, as more and more people did this, they naturally banded together into groups.

That way, they'd have a better chance of surviving when powerful factions came hunting them down.

As for what Bao Yashu had mentioned earlier, Lin Feng wasn't too concerned.

With his current strength, most forces couldn't threaten him at all.

However, Xiao Yixian frowned slightly after hearing all this. She asked, "If the Western Desolate Region is causing so much trouble for the rest of the Western Region, hasn't anyone tried to stop them?"

"Of course they have," Bao Yashu replied. "From what I heard, a long time ago, many factions from the Western Region united together. Led by eleven Dou Zuns and backed by hundreds of Dou Zong experts, they launched a campaign into the desert to wipe out the Western Desolate Region."

Both Lin Feng and Xiao Yixian were stunned to hear this.

Leaving out the Ancient Clans, the Pill Tower, and the Hall of Souls—an alliance of eleven Dou Zuns was a terrifying force. There were few factions that could muster such power.

"And what happened?" Xiao Yixian asked in surprise.

Bao Yashu was clearly enjoying himself now, gesturing animatedly as he continued.

"They say that battle shook the heavens and the earth! In the end, the Western Region alliance was utterly defeated. Even among the Dou Zuns, four of them fell in battle. As for the Dou Zong... their losses were beyond counting. The whole army retreated in defeat."
