Chapter 23: Chapter 16: The Assault of the Monsters
A spirit controlled by a Demonic Beast.
Zhou Li and Tang Wan exchanged glances, both detecting the confusion in each other's eyes.
Just moments ago, Zhou Li had awakened Tang Wan's long-buried memories with a look of fierce disappointment. She recalled the joyful days at school when she and Zhou Li spiked their teacher's cup with laxatives, pretended the toilet was under repair, hastily constructed a new one, and finally set off firecrackers inside the new toilet.
In that instant, Tang Wan had a flash of insight from her past experiences and instantly grasped the situation. Pretending to agree with Zhou Li's "retreat is the better part of valor" strategy, she then lay in wait, preparing an ambush alongside him.
What they hadn't expected was that they would actually ambush a spirit—a spirit controlled by a monster, no less.
The absurdity of the situation lay in the fact that monsters often have low intellect, acting solely on instinct, as a species with a paralyzed little brain and a more paralyzed big brain. It was usually the intelligent spirits who manipulated the simple-minded monsters, but now, this spirit bore the restrictive seal of a monster.
Let's take an easy-to-understand example.
A college senior sitting in for someone else's college entrance exam.
"How about we interrogate him later?"
Crouched in front of the naked man, Tang Wan scrutinized him carefully and said with a frown, "His muscles aren't very developed, and his figure is rather skinny, yet he was able to unleash such powerful attacks in a short period of time. I'd guess that exhausted a lot of Qi, and his internal organs are likely damaged. It'll probably take some time for him to wake up."
"You know about this kind of thing?"
Zhou Li cast a puzzled look at Tang Wan. Upon hearing Zhou Li's words, Tang Wan's facial expression instantly stiffened as if recalling some unpleasant memories, and, waving her hand feebly, she said, "A long illness makes the patient a good doctor, it's just a matter of getting used to it."
"You really haven't been studied little."
Understanding what was going on, Zhou Li barely suppressed a laugh and said to Tang Wan, "Let's go, drag him to the woods nearby. I have a way to wake him up sooner than expected."
"Oh?"
Tang Wan raised an eyebrow and, without further question, grunted as she grabbed the spirit's legs and dragged him behind Zhou Li. She didn't mind being the one doing the heavy lifting, as she had already resignedly accepted her lot as a pitiable soul dependent on others; doing some grunt work was only right and proper.
Before long, the two of them had dragged the spirit into a secluded copse. After making sure there was no one around, Zhou Li instructed Tang Wan to lay the spirit flat on the ground. Observing the spirit facedown like a dead fish, Zhou Li removed a bundle from his waist, placing several jars and bottles on the ground before starting to fiddle with them.
"Cold Fishgrass clears heat and dispels fire, Snake Venom Heartseed can regulate and neutralize, Three Pepper Vine burns and stimulates... Zhou Li, you want to first cool him down, then heat him up, and finally rapidly drop his central body temperature to make him wake up quickly, right?"
Tang Wan, extremely knowledgeable in pharmacology, immediately saw what Zhou Li was preparing. But she soon became puzzled, "But your dosage isn't enough; even if he takes it, it can only have a certain effect for a short time. He most likely won't wake up right away."
"Half right, half wrong."
After mixing the medicine, Zhou Li looked up and said calmly, "You were right about the beginning, but wrong about the end."
"Are you saying you want to preheat his body temperature with the Three Pepper Vine and then apply the medicine externally? But I didn't see you prepare any medicine for external application..."
While Tang Wan was puzzled, Zhou Li made a move.
He first looked around, then plucked a handful of damp reeds. Next, he balled up the reeds and stuffed them into the bottle with the medicine.
After finishing the preparations, Zhou Li stood up and stepped on the buttocks of the mystical creature. Then, under Tang Wan's shocked gaze, Zhou Li threw the bottle stuffed with a bundle of hay into the abyss of the mystical creature with extremely precise force.
"Let me enlighten you."
Zhou Li clapped his hands and looked at Tang Wan, whose face was full of shock. He appeared calm as if everything that had just happened was unrelated to him, "The mucous membrane of the rectum absorbs drugs the fastest."
Tang Wan couldn't believe it and lost her ability to speak. Just as she was about to say something, accompanied by a painful moan, the mystical creature on the ground slowly got up and then looked around in a daze.
It actually worked!
Tang Wan was dumbfounded. She had never imagined that the human anatomy could be so magical, nor had she considered that the anatomy of the mystical creature could be equally wondrous. At that moment, the mystical creature also recovered, first getting up slowly in a daze, then looking around. The moment it saw Zhou Li and Tang Wan, it wanted to scream, wanted to attack, but...
"Ow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
First of all, we need to make clear that the medicine Zhou Li mixed was a life-saving potion, but saving lives means it's a potent drug.
If taken directly, the body would first feel hot and break out in sweat, and then as the medicine neutralized, the body would feel warm and comfortable. In the instant before the body could react, the cold nature of the herbs in the potion would kick in, awakening the person's body with the Ice and Fire Dual Extremes.
The precondition is that you drink it.
But this mystical creature inhaled it.
Watching the mystical creature waving its arms wildly, unsure whether to cover its scorching hot belly or its roaring buttocks, Tang Wan felt an unusual sense of pity for the creature. She turned to look at Zhou Li, the instigator, and saw that he was holding a Convergence Imaging Stone, recording everything in front of him with a serious expression.
"What are you looking at?"
Zhou Li seemed to notice Tang Wan's complex gaze, turned his head, and said seriously, "This is a good opportunity to observe whether mystical creatures can absorb through the rectum. It's important research material for medical history."
"Hmm."
Upon hearing this, Tang Wan was persuaded and fell silent, just staring with Zhou Li at the mystical creature in front of them, seething like a fish out of water. After a while, seemingly enduring the effects of the medicine, the mystical creature lay on the ground with its face down, trembling with cold and howling in pain at Zhou Li:
"You even practice the Good of Longyang?!"
This sentence left Zhou Li in silence. Tang Wan, on the other hand, couldn't hold back any longer; she turned her small face away, her delicate cheeks flushing with a hint of red, and her petite body started to shake continuously.
Later, the mystical creature hung upside down from a tree, its body bent like a boiled shrimp. It looked terrified at the long spike so close it could almost touch it, knowing that with just a small thrust forward, it could enter the Eastern Depot and attain a national-level position.
"Speak, who sent you here."
Zhou Li stood in front of it with a cold expression and asked, "Tell the truth now, and I'll spare your life. If you dare play tricks with me..."
A bone-chilling coldness flashed in his eyes, Zhou Li gazed at the mystical creature sweating profusely in front of him, and in a low voice said, "I'll just return this vine that's hanging you."
"Back to its original path."
