Break The Silence

Chapter 4: 4. A Given Chance

Taehyung sat at his study table, after taking a warm shower he felt easy. Water droplets still clung to his hair as he dried off, the soft towel draped around his shoulders.

A cup of tea settled in front of him, steaming gently, along with a clusters of files with blue covers. He quietly began to study.

Dr. Lee had provided him a list of patients that had been abandoned by the doctors. An elderly man who killed his wife, and a mid age woman who brutally murdered her boyfriend, by stabbing him. All the cases were about the hopeless patients with unsolved murder mysteries.

Taehyung deepened his gaze as he opened the third file about Park Jimin. Eleven years ago, Jimin became a famous name, who killed his younger brother Jisun, by shoving him from the stairs.

Jimin was the only family member found near the dead body. Jisun had an extreme injury in his head, that became a cause of his death. The news spread like a wildfire in Busan, media insanely covered the each detail, tagging him a psychopath killer.

The behavioral analysis claimed, that Mr. And Mrs Park may never accepted verbally in front of the world, but in their mind they were convinced that Jimin purposely killed Jisun.

Police found Jimin guilty, but they lacked any strong evidence that could prove them right. Since Jimin was sixteen, so the court released him without any murder charges.

Later, Mr. And Mrs Park, disappeared, like they never existed. Nobody could have found them again, however, public was still convinced that Jimin was a killer, who required a strict punishment.

According to the written details on the file, Mr. And Mrs Park brought Jimin to the Yeosan mental hospital of Busan, during the December of 2012, after they moved into a new town.

Jimin was once again accused of trying to kill his parents. Mr. And Mrs Park had few injuries on their foreheads. It was a involuntary admission, they had submitted a case order as well.

After abandoning Jimin into a hospital, Mr. And Mrs Park never visited him.

Jimin didn't say anything, he was traumatized and afraid. Later it came out, that Jimin was diagnosing a neurological disorder, Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, ever since from the birth.

(Temporal Lobe Seizure is a type of neurological disorder that affects the brain's temporal lobe, which is responsible for memory and emotions. People with this condition often experience unusual behaviors, sudden memory loss, or emotional changes.

These seizures can cause confusion, fear, or hallucinations and may sometimes result in sudden actions that are difficult to control.)

Dr. Lee had taken the charge of Jimin by himself. Although, Jimin never said anything, but during the therapy session, Dr. Lee realized that Jimin had diagnosing with the Schizoaffective disorder as well.

(Schizoaffective disorder is a mental health condition that combines symptoms of schizophrenia and mood disorders, like depression or bipolar disorder. People with this disorder may experience hallucinations or delusions (a sign of schizophrenia) along with mood changes, such as extreme sadness or high energy. This means they might see or hear things that aren't there, have trouble thinking clearly, and also experience intense emotional episodes. It can make it difficult for someone to maintain relationships, work, or handle daily life.)

It was hard for anyone to assumed, that how long Jimin was diagnosing, but according to the theory Dr. Lee made, Jimin's mental health could be the reason, why he killed Jisun.

The fact that tangled the case was, Jimin never accepted or denied the charges from the beginning. He kept silent in front of the police and even in the court.

Taehyung exhaled a cold breath, he grabbed the pen and noted down the pin points, a habit of him before start working on his case.

"Jimin killed his younger brother Jisun by shoving him from the stairs during July 2011."

"He never stated the incident by himself, six months later court released him without any murder charges"

"Soon after Parks disappeared, they admitted him in the hospital during December 2012 and disappeared again."

The next morning, Taehyung arrived earlier in the hospital. He sat at Dr. Lee's office, his leg trembling nervously. "I'm sorry I...I interrupted you in the morning, but I don't wanted to waste my time." Taehyung began to speak, returning the bunch of files to him.

"So you have decided." Dr. Lee assumed.

Taehyung nodded, "I'll take this one." He said, waving Jimin's file.

Dr. Lee adjusted his glasses and leaned back in his chair, studying Taehyung's determined expression. With a heavy sigh, he said, "Dr. Kim, I understand your dedication, but I have to be honest with you. Jimin's case is not like the others. He's been through years of trauma and silence. His condition makes him unpredictable, and the truth about what happened that night may never come out."

Taehyung's grip on the file tightened, but Dr. Lee continued. "I've worked with Jimin for years. He's deeply broken, and while I've tried, I don't believe he'll ever fully recover, believe me, I passed this remarks through my experience. Taking this case is a risk, not just for you, but for him too. He's… hopeless. You might end up making things worse."

Dr. Lee's voice softened. "Some cases can't be solved. Sometimes, it's better to let go."

Taehyung took a deep breath, his jaw tightening as he stared at Dr. Lee. "I understand what you're saying, but I can't just walk away from this. I don't believe anyone is truly hopeless. If there's even the slightest chance I can reach Jimin, I have to try."

Dr. Lee raised an eyebrow, leaning forward. "And what makes you think you can succeed where others have failed?"

Taehyung steady himself, "Because I won't treat him like a lost cause. Everyone else gave up on him, but I won't. He deserves someone who will fight for him, even if he doesn't believe in himself right now."

Dr. Lee studied him for a moment, then let out a long sigh. "You're stubborn, I'll give you that. Alright, I'll make you a deal. You have one month. If you can get even a single reaction from Jimin, anything that shows he's connecting, I'll hand over his responsibility to you. But if nothing changes, you'll drop the case and leave it to the professionals. Do you agree?"

Taehyung nodded without hesitation. "I agree. One month is all I need."

Dr. Lee gave him a small, skeptical smile. "Good luck, young man. You're going to need it."

"I'd like to see Jimin." Taehyung requested.

"Alright you can." Dr. Lee allowed.
