Chapter 37: From Ruins to a New Home
A giant green magic circle formed above Luna's head.
A few moments later, a green bird resembling a mix of an eagle and a peacock shot up into the air.
It was thirty meters tall and had six wings.
Garuda then let out a roar that shook the surroundings. Then, its wings glowed green and released six slashes of wind energy that shot directly towards the worm queen.
ZWUSH!
As they hit the worm queen, it let out another deafening scream of agony.
The queen then retaliated by spitting acid at Garuda, who was hovering in the sky, but Garuda easily avoided it, and this happened several times.
Garuda also flapped its wings, creating an enormous tornado.
As the wind spun, some of the surrounding buildings were swept up by the strong gale.
Not far from the scene, Gale, who was witnessing the fierce battle, suddenly saw a building flying and about to hit a running child.
Nimbly, Gale jumped from one building to another and dashed towards the child.
When the rubble was just a few meters from hitting the child, Gale swiftly grabbed them.
"Are you okay?" Gale asked.
The small child only replied with a slow nod, but it was clear they were frightened.
Gale then rushed to take the child to the nearest shelter before returning to the scene.
"Lun, we have to use a barrier to reduce the damage to the capital," Rima shouted.
"Ah! You're right. Let's do it then," Luna replied.
Together, they both chanted a spell and waved their hands forward.
Then, a giant, circular golden wall of light stood firm as if touching the sky, with the worm queen at its center.
"Garuda, now you can attack with your full power," said Luna.
Hearing this, Garuda let out a cry of excitement.
KWAAKKK!
Garuda flew up into the sky and spread its six wings. It then opened its mouth wide, and a green magic circle appeared.
Shortly after, a relatively large energy beam was fired towards the sand worm queen.
The ground shook violently where the energy beam was centered, and intense wind pressure could be felt around the speeding beam.
Seeing this, the worm queen tried to burrow into the ground.
"Lun!" Rima shouted.
"Mm!" Luna replied with a nod.
Then Luna positioned her hands in front of her, facing each other. Below, a large chain emerged from a space and wrapped around the body of the escaping worm queen.
With all its might, the worm queen continued to struggle and writhe, trying to escape.
Its tail, which was on the ground, occasionally burst out, thrashing about, but it still couldn't get away.
Seeing that it could no longer escape, the energy beam hit it squarely, piercing through its body and hitting the protective wall.
The citizens' screams were also heard as Garuda released this energy beam.
When the energy beam made contact with the barrier, the wall vibrated.
Rima's body trembled slightly as the energy beam touched the protective wall, and she bit her lower lip as if groaning in pain.
After a few moments, the energy beam finally subsided and slowly disappeared.
As the view began to clear, the worm queen's body was seen still standing upright, chained.
The one different thing was that it had no head; only its body remained.
Feeling that the situation had calmed down, Rima and Luna released their seals. The protective wall and the giant chain slowly vanished into nothingness.
"My lady, Miss, are you alright?" Lusserina asked.
"Huh… It's been a long time since I've felt like this," Rima replied with a smile, out of breath.
Rima is right. It's also been a long time since I've felt this way. It's like adventuring with my friends back in the day.
I used to face the Queen Sandworm before my level was maxed out, like it is now.
Who would have thought we could defeat it after reaching the maximum level? And also… I summoned Garuda, one of the heavenly beast monster bosses from when it was still a game, which I had the chance to conquer during a special event.
Now what should I do with it… There's no way it will follow me like Langit and Griffa.
Garuda is one of the top-tier wind elementals, you could say it's a god…— Luna thought to herself.
"Garuda, thank you for your help," said Luna.
Garuda then turned and looked towards Luna.
"You are free now, you can go wherever you want," Luna added.
As if receiving approval, Garuda nodded and then flew towards the horizon at high speed.
"Is it okay to let it go?" Rima asked.
"It's fine, besides, no one would dare to bother it. Its power is equivalent to thirty of us," Luna replied.
"I'm curious where you got it from, but that can wait. Right now, some things need to be done first," said Rima, looking down at the devastated capital city of Arvastan.
Many buildings were leveled, and a large crater formed in the capital of Arvastan, particularly around the main square.
The silence of the capital now replaced the screams. The citizens, who were once anxious about the disaster, could now breathe a sigh of relief.
A mother calmed her crying, frightened child in her arms. Friends hugged each other, grateful to have survived the disaster.
Luna and the others descended to approach the worm queen's corpse, before them lay the massive body of the queen worm.
"What a gigantic creature," Rima said in awe.
As they were staring at the worm queen's corpse…
"Is this the cause of all this chaos?" someone asked.
Everyone turned to see who was asking. It turned out to be Gale.
Gale was stunned, unable to say anything, and just gaped as he stared at the giant worm queen's corpse.
"Yes, this is the Sand Worm Queen that brought its children to invade the capital," Rima answered.
"Miss Rima? …and also Miss Lusserina? Why are you here with her?" Gale asked, surprised.
"What do you mean, why is she with me? Of course, she's with us, she's our family's servant," Rima replied.
Hearing this, Gale's eyebrows raised as if in disbelief.
While Gale was still in shock, they all heard another voice.
"Sis Luna!" a woman called out.
From a distance, Elise was running towards them, followed by Phina, Lynn, Al, and Kyle.
Just like Gale, they were all shocked when they saw the body of the worm queen.
"By the Moon Goddess, what is this creature?!" Al exclaimed in shock.
"Is this the mother worm?" Kyle muttered.
After snapping out of her shock, Elise approached Luna and just stared at her.
I guess I can't hide it anymore— Luna thought to herself.
After that, Luna explained to Elise and the others who she was. Rima also helped clarify a few things.
Elise and the others could only listen in stunned silence to Luna's and Rima's explanations.
After the explanation was finished, everyone was instantly lost in their thoughts.
"…"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hide my true identity. I didn't want you all to change once you knew who I was," Luna said, clasping her hands tightly.
"Mmm!" Elise shook her head, "No, not at all, I'm grateful to get to know you better, sis," Elise said as she took both of Luna's hands, her eyes teary.
"Yeah, we're grateful too," said Phina and the others.
"I can't believe you're a noble. And also…" Al said, surprised as he looked in a particular direction.
"Oh, them… they are members of my family. This is Langit, Griffa, Riffon, Putih, Bamby, and Arimby," Luna replied, introducing Langit and the others to Elise and others.
Amidst this moment, someone jumped down from somewhere.
"Miss Rima!" a man called out.
When they saw who was speaking, it turned out to be Prince Hasby.
He arrived wearing gleaming golden armor and carrying a large sword in his hand.
Prince Hasby looked around and was speechless. Realizing this, Rima immediately walked over to him.
"What happened?" Prince Hasby asked.
Rima explained what had happened. For a few moments, Prince Hasby just stood there silently, stroking his chin while occasionally glancing towards Luna.
Then the sound of horse hooves approached. A group of fully armed and armored soldiers on horseback came towards them.
At the very front was King Armett, wearing his armor and royal robes, leading the troops.
The King went straight to Prince Hasby and Rima, who were talking to each other.
Accompanied by his general, the King joined the conversation between Rima and Prince Hasby.
Meanwhile, Gale awkwardly approached Lusserina.
"So… how long have you been serving the Oberyth family?" Gale asked.
"A very long time," Lusserina replied.
"…"
"Once again. Thank you for saving me," said Gale.
"You're welcome. Besides, my Lady and Miss would have done the same if they were in my position," Lusserina answered.
My Lady? Miss?— Gale thought to himself.
"Why do you call them by different titles?" Gale asked.
"Of course, it's because Madam Luna already has a husband and children, while Miss Rimaria is still single," Lusserina answered.
After the conversation between Rima and the King was over, Rima returned to Luna.
To clean up this place, she said, we have to pull the worm queen's body out of the ground, but no one in the kingdom is capable of doing it.
For that, they wanted to borrow Rima's power to help them.
Luna also felt a little guilty for the damage that had occurred. After agreeing, Luna and Rima told everyone to step back and keep their distance.
Luna and Rima then summoned several large golems to help pull out the sand worm queen's body.
With the additional help of Langit, Griffa, and Riffon, Luna and Rima, also aided by wind magic, tried to pull the sand worm queen's body out of the ground.
With a single effort, the worm's body was successfully pulled from the ground.
Everyone was shocked when they saw the size of this sand worm queen's body, including Rima and Luna.
This Queen Worm turned out to have a body length of approximately three hundred meters.
In return for saving the capital city of Arvastan from a great disaster, Luna and Rima were allowed to keep the body of the giant worm queen.
As for the smaller worms, the kingdom requested them to cover the costs of repairing the capital. Of course, Rima and Luna did not refuse.
After that, everyone began to work together to clean up the ruined capital.
Several citizens also returned to see their damaged homes.
[That evening at the palace]
Sultan Armett was holding a meeting with several of his ministers. Prince Hasby also participated in this discussion.
"Hasby, how is your progress in courting Miss Rima?" King Armett asked.
"Father must already know the answer," Prince Hasby replied.
"Rejected, huh… if we had people or allies like her, surely no one would dare to offend our kingdom in the future," said King Armett.
"True, such power is too dangerous to offend," said the beastman minister.
"Not to mention one more…" Prince Hasby added.
"The prince means her sister?" asked another minister.
"Yes, but I have a feeling that her sister is stronger," said Prince Hasby.
"What do you mean?" King Armett asked.
"You all must have seen the large, six-winged bird in the sky earlier today, right? Well, that bird was summoned by Miss Rima's sister," Prince Hasby answered.
Instantly, murmurs from everyone present filled the room.
"So, what is our next move? Are we going to eliminate them?" asked a human minister.
"Fool! How exactly would you eliminate them?!" King Armett exclaimed.
"For now, we can only try to stay on their good side. You must remember that!" King Armett said firmly.
For the next week, Luna and the others, including Gale, were invited to stay at the palace.
During this week, they also assisted the community in cleaning up the rubble from destroyed buildings.
Then, on the seventh day at dinner, everyone gathered to sit side by side for a meal with the royal family.
"Everyone, on behalf of the Moesram kingdom, I thank you for preventing a great disaster from befalling this kingdom and for helping to clean up the post-battle aftermath. Although this is far from over, with your help, we have managed the most difficult parts first. We will handle the rest. Once again, I thank you," said King Armett.
"Sultan Armett is too kind. Besides, part of the damage was a result of our battle, so of course, we would help clean it up," Rima replied.
After dinner, everyone had some free time. As Luna stood on her room's balcony, looking at the moon, she heard a few people call out from behind her.
"Sis Luna!" Elise and the others called out.
"You guys!" Luna said, surprised.
"What are you doing here so late at night? Did something happen?" Luna asked.
"Nothing's wrong. We just wanted to discuss something with you, sis," Elise answered.
After Elise said that, she looked at the others, who responded with a nod.
"Um… so it's like this… Since you live near the capital, sis, can we come to you in the capital city of Nuzantra?"
Elise asked shyly.
"We've wanted to move our base to the capital for a long time but haven't had the chance, and I think now is the perfect moment," Al added.
"We also want to know where you live," Elise added.
"My house?" Luna said, surprised, before turning to Rima beside her.
Rima just gave a gesture of "it's up to you" to Luna.
"Of course, you can," Luna answered.
Hearing this, Elise and the others cheered with joy as if a weight had been lifted from their chests.
[Meanwhile, elsewhere]
Gale was on a balcony, gazing at the stars shining in the night sky.
It's been five years since I came to this world, and I've gotten used to this new world now.
Yet, I still miss my old world. Sometimes I wonder if only 'players' were summoned to this world.
[The next day]
To avoid causing a commotion, Luna and the others gathered in the backyard of the Moesram palace. Many people were already standing there.
"Well then, we will be on our way," said Rima. "Let's go, Lun," Rima added.
Luna then chanted a spell. A large magic circle appeared beneath their feet.
A few moments later, a light from below shot up, enveloping everyone and lifting them into the air, and in the blink of an eye, everyone had been transported.
When everyone had left the farewell site, only the king and his general remained.
"Protector of the Tower, huh…" King Armett muttered.
