Brand New Life Online: Rise Of The Goddess Of Harvest

Chapter 1438: The Developers

-----

Inside a large office room where dozens of workers were typing on their keyboards and watching several gigantic screens showing constantly changing data and programs, and the images of in-game footage, the large team celebrated, as they saw the gigantic monster be vanquished by the combined efforts of everyone.

"I-It’s done! Merlinus was finally defeated!"

"We didn’t have to intervene at the end, what a relief…"

"I can’t believe they did it! That guy was stronger than any other content available at the moment…"

"Well, Verdant did the last blow, without her help they wouldn’t had been able to slay him in time before he acquired more of his powers."

"Verdant, huh? So she’s one of the Goddess implemented recently, an embodiment of the whole continent’s Nature Soul. She’s unique and unlike the others."

"Both have their limits I suppose, but unlike the other ones she can do more things freely, and isn’t… well, you know."

"Yeah…" Your adventure continues at NovelBin.Côm

The people talked with one another, overall looking very happy and content with what had happened, a large logo above the wall where they were read [Nexus Corporations] with a big X and CO in the background, looking both stylish and futuristic.

"Director, did you see the news?"

A woman with long black hair that seemed to be Japanese walked towards a man standing there, glancing at the screens in silence.

His face didn’t seem to change at all, he was tall, very tall, with long silvery-white colored hair, almost metallic in color.

His eyes were also dark silver of color, and his skin very pale. Wearing a gray suit with a red tie, he noticed the worker walking to his side with an almost robotic glance.

"Yes, I saw… It is good. I am relieved."

"You don’t seem… so happy though."

"…There are still many threats."

"But it’s a great step forward!"

"…I suppose I agree, yes. I’m glad."

The man smiled faintly, although his face remained almost expressionless even now.

"…"

The woman sighed, as she noticed the director quickly looking at his clock.

"That’s enough for today everyone, the second team will be arriving in a minute, you can rest for the rest of the week."

"Thank you director."

"See you next week then."

"I hope everything goes well!"

The people walked out of the office as new workers stepped forward, the director greeted them before he went on his own way.

The woman glanced at him from afar, following him while trying to be sneaky, her presence lowered through a small rune within her left hand, glowing with a black light encompassing her.

She saw the man walk through several corridors, and then enter another room, she looked inside from the open door, noticing him standing in front of someone.

It looked like a hospital room, despite being in the middle of a huge company building.

Someone was resting over a hospital bed, it looked like a girl, in her late teens. She had pale white hair like the Director, and her eyes were closed.

She was connected to various tubes and other objects, and over her eyes and forehead there was a small object connecting her mind to a virtual reality.

The girl looked very weak and slender; she had been in a coma for many years already.

"T-This is…?"

The woman gasped for a moment, covering her mouth as she glanced at the girl.

"You can come in if you want to."

"A-Ah!"

The woman was shocked, she was sure she had used a strong charm to hide her presence.

And yet the director’s silver-colored eyes could see through everything.

"You don’t have to be afraid, I will overlook this misconduct and not fire you."

He smiled gently.

"Were you curious who she is?"

"D-Director… Um, yes."

The director looked back at the girl, for the first time, the woman saw genuine feelings within his eyes.

"She’s my daughter."

"Oh…"

The woman slowly walked to his side, as she looked at the girl, with pitying eyes.

"What… happened to her?"

"She fell into a coma 13 years ago, when she was twelve. An accident left her with brain damage. Doctors her brain had essentially died."

"…"

The woman remained in silence, shocked. One of the reasons being that despite being 25 years of age, the girl didn’t look older than twelve, it was as if her body also stopped aging once she fell into a coma.

"But they were wrong. I tried many methods to heal her, but nothing worked… However, I discovered something, as I delved into the hidden world."

"Something?"

"The nature of the soul. Thoughts and personalities are stored within the soul as well. The brain is not everything."

"…"

"I discovered my daughter’s soul was still within her body, but because of her brain having been almost shut down, she was unable to express herself, to live properly."

"T-Then this is…? You… this whole project…?"

"It wasn’t made just for her, no. There was another purpose too, other benefactors. But above all, I agree to work on this large-scale project because of her, yes."

"All for your daughter?"

"The Virtual Soul Engine was made by me. I designed it with the resources and efforts of the Nexus Magus Family. It is the magnus opus built upon all of my four hundred years of work."

"I-I knew you were long lived but… so long?"

"Indeed… It is well known around the world of magus that the Nexus Family live for very long. My daughter here, was going to become my heir, she would inherit the family and everything else…"

"…"

The woman sighed, feeling both sorry, but also amazed about everything she was learning.

The director was someone very trusting too, she could’ve been a spy or something, yet he told her everything anyway.

"And you created the Virtual Soul Engine to help her soul awaken within her body?"

"Something like that… I wanted to also… to also give her another chance."

"H-How so?"

"By letting her live in that other world, she would be able to experience everything she hasn’t been able to experience through most of her life, as she was only twelve when she fell into a coma."
