Bound By Beasts: The Tamer Who Defied Fate

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: The Beast’s Wrath

The underground chamber shook with the force of the orb's pulsing energy. Cracks spread across the pedestal, glowing with an eerie light that seemed to pulse in rhythm with the roaring shadow beast. Its massive form loomed over Kaelron and Nyx, tendrils of dark energy writhing around its hulking body.

The beast let out a guttural snarl, its glowing red eyes fixed on the pair. Each step it took left scorch marks on the stone floor, and the oppressive weight of its presence made the air feel thick and heavy.

Kaelron tightened his grip on his staff, his eyes darting to Nyx. "We have to take it down before it gets stronger."

Nyx nodded, her daggers at the ready. "Keep its attention on you. I'll try to finish the job with the orb."

The beast lunged without warning, its claws carving deep gouges into the stone floor as it swiped at Kaelron. He rolled to the side, barely avoiding the strike, and countered with a blast of energy from his staff. The attack struck the beast's shoulder, causing it to stagger back, but it quickly regained its footing.

"It's feeding off the orb!" Kaelron shouted as he dodged another strike. "We need to cut off its connection!"

Nyx darted toward the pedestal, her movements swift and precise. The shadow beast snarled and lashed out with a tendril of energy, but Nyx ducked under it, her daggers glinting in the dim light.

Reaching the pedestal, she plunged one of her daggers into a glowing crack, sending a jolt of corrupted energy rippling through the chamber. The orb's light flickered, and the beast let out a deafening roar, its movements becoming more erratic.

"It's working!" Nyx called out, pulling her dagger free and slashing at another crack.

The beast turned its full attention to her, its eyes blazing with fury. It charged, its massive claws raised to strike.

"Nyx!" Kaelron shouted, raising his staff.

He unleashed a powerful blast of energy that struck the beast square in the chest, halting its advance just as it reached her. The beast howled in rage, its tendrils lashing wildly as it turned back toward Kaelron.

"Keep going!" Kaelron urged, bracing himself for another attack.

The beast lunged at Kaelron, its claws swiping with deadly precision. He parried the strikes with his staff, each clash sending shockwaves through his arms. Sweat dripped down his face as he struggled to hold his ground.

Ignis's distant cry echoed in his mind, a reminder of the bond they shared. I can handle this, he thought, focusing on the task at hand.

Kaelron summoned a wall of shimmering light, forcing the beast to pause. He used the brief reprieve to channel energy into his staff, the runes along its length glowing brightly.

The beast roared and shattered the barrier with a swipe of its claws, but Kaelron was ready. He unleashed a powerful wave of energy that struck the beast head-on, forcing it to stumble back.

Nyx continued her assault on the pedestal, each strike causing the orb's light to flicker and dim. Dark energy began to seep from the cracks, pooling on the floor like a living entity.

"This thing is going to blow," Nyx muttered, slashing at another crack.

The orb pulsed violently, and a tendril of shadow energy lashed out, striking her shoulder. Nyx cried out as she was thrown back, her dagger skidding across the floor.

Kaelron turned at the sound, his heart racing. "Nyx!"

She pushed herself up, wincing as she clutched her injured arm. "I'm fine," she said through gritted teeth. "Focus on the beast!"

The shadow beast roared and charged Kaelron again, its movements more frenzied. Kaelron sidestepped the attack, slamming his staff into the ground and creating a shockwave that sent the beast sprawling.

A deafening cry echoed through the chamber as Ignis burst through the doorway, her fiery wings illuminating the darkened space. She let out a fierce screech, her talons slashing at the beast as she swooped down.

The shadow beast howled in fury, its tendrils lashing out at the griffon. Ignis dodged nimbly, her fiery feathers leaving trails of light in the air.

"I thought I told you to stay outside!" Kaelron shouted, a mixture of relief and frustration in his voice.

Ignis ignored him, circling the beast and drawing its attention away from Nyx.

"This might actually work," Nyx muttered, retrieving her dagger and moving back toward the pedestal.

Kaelron and Ignis worked in tandem, their attacks keeping the shadow beast off balance. Each strike from Kaelron's staff and Ignis's talons weakened the creature, but it was clear the orb was still fueling its strength.

Nyx studied the pedestal, her mind racing. The cracks were spreading, but the orb remained intact. "We're not going to destroy this thing with brute force," she muttered.

She glanced at Kaelron. "I have an idea, but you're not going to like it."

Kaelron glanced over his shoulder, his expression tense. "What is it?"

"I'll draw the orb's energy into myself," Nyx said, her voice steady despite the danger. "It'll weaken the beast long enough for you to destroy it."

Kaelron's eyes widened. "That's insane! The corruption could kill you!"

"Do you have a better idea?" Nyx shot back, her gaze unwavering.

Kaelron hesitated, his mind racing. Finally, he nodded. "Fine. But I'm not letting you do this alone."

Nyx placed her hands on the pedestal, channeling her own energy into the orb. The corruption reacted violently, tendrils of dark energy lashing out and wrapping around her arms. She gritted her teeth, fighting through the pain.

The shadow beast let out a deafening roar, its body convulsing as the orb's energy was drawn away. Kaelron seized the opportunity, summoning a powerful blast of light that struck the beast, driving it to its knees.

"Ignis, now!" Kaelron shouted.

The griffon let out a fierce cry and dove, her talons raking across the beast's neck. The creature let out one final howl before collapsing in a heap, its body dissolving into shadows.

Nyx staggered back, her arms trembling from the strain. The orb flickered one last time before shattering, sending shards of light and shadow across the chamber.

The chamber fell silent, the oppressive weight of the corruption lifting. Kaelron rushed to Nyx's side, steadying her as she swayed.

"Are you okay?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

Nyx nodded weakly. "I'll live. What about the orb?"

Kaelron glanced at the shattered remains of the pedestal. "Destroyed. Let's hope that's enough to stop the weapons."

Ignis landed beside them, her feathers dim but her presence comforting.

"We need to get out of here before reinforcements arrive," Nyx said, straightening.

Kaelron nodded. "Agreed. Let's move."

As they made their way back to the surface, the faint sound of voices and footsteps echoed through the corridors.
