Chapter 141
"You are telling me some rebels were spotted near the Crystal Moon border, is it, Alpha Roman?" Thorne asked.
"Yes, my king. Right over here." He pointed at the section on the map. "They seemed to be passing by, and we didn't want to make trouble."
"You didn't want to make trouble?" Thorne snarled. "Alpha Roman, the second you sight rebels, there is—" he paused, brows pinched together instantly.
His vision bled red; it was so sudden. The pain hit him like a train, and he stood up, staggering backward slightly. The pain was excruciating. It coursed through his veins, blinding him for a moment… but it wasn't his. It was hers.
"Your majesty!" Roman and Beta Calder's voices came through.
Thorne pressed his hand over his head. "Adina! Adina!" He yelled through the mind-link, but instead, he was met with a block.
A block?!!
His eyes snapped out. Something was wrong. Horribly wrong.
"Your majesty. What's wrong?" Roman asked, sharing a look with the beta.
Thorne didn't answer immediately. He turned, his pupils slitted and glowing gold now. His Lycan was pacing—no, thrashing inside him. Every inch of his skin buzzed like a live wire.
He had to get to her! He had to find her.
"How far is the market?" Thorne asked, his deep voice echoing through the room.
Roman blinked. "Ten minutes, give or take."
Thorne's gaze hardened. "Tell every Crystal Moon warrior within range to head there now. The festival ends immediately! I want the whole place surrounded. No one goes in or out. Do you hear me?" He snarled.
"I- yes, your majesty."
Thorne turned to the window, eyes filled with determination, ready to jump out, but before he could.
"Your majesty. Do you think Adi—Lady Adina is in danger?" He asked.
Thorne snapped his gaze to him, face hardened. "If a single hair on Adina's head is touched…" Thorne's voice dropped into a deadly whisper, "…Every single soul in Crystal Moon will feel it. I'll burn every living thing in this godforsaken pack to ash. You will remember my name for eternity."
Roman flinched as Thorne's bones cracked, limbs shifting, fur bursting from his skin. A massive black wolf emerged in seconds, larger than anything Roman had ever seen.
The beta staggered back in shock… A Lycan was truly different from an alpha.
____________
The taste of blood filled her mouth.
Adina spat it out, her legs trembling as she staggered back, heart pounding like war drums in her chest. One eye was nearly swollen shut, her arms slashed, her thigh gushing red. But her grip didn't falter. Not yet.
They circled her like wolves, twenty men with masks and reeking of bloodlust. Her vision blurred, but she held her stance, knees bent, breath ragged.
"Still standing?" one of them sneered, voice muffled behind his mask. "Stubborn little bitch."
They weren't even using any of their disgusting power. Just their strength.
They didn't think she would've lasted this long against twenty men. How? How was it possible?
Another lunged at her, snarling.
Adina twisted, ducking under his arm, she held her dagger tight, slicing through the tendon of his leg. He growled and fell.
She was getting slower, much tired. Her back hit the alley wall, and she gasped, trying to steady her vision. Mason wasn't coming. Thorne wasn't responding. She was alone.
One of the men grabbed her by the hair and slammed her down. She hit the ground hard, her body screaming in agony. She tried to stand, but her body wouldn't move.
She couldn't breathe.
She heard the men laugh… then footsteps approached.
She wheezed, trying again to get through to Thorne or Mason, but again, it was a dead-end.
The man towered over her, hands shot up, and his claws extended sharply. "You'll drop dead soon enough," he laughed. "But that's okay, we only need you breathing, not conscious."
He knelt, claws lowering to her face.
Adina stared up at him, chest heaving angrily, rage burning in her bones. She wasn't going to go down like this.
"No," she whispered.
"No, no, no." Her body trembled as a tear fell to her cheek. The man grinned even wider.
"I SAID NO!" She screamed, her voice echoing as though she were possessed by another body! Her body jerking up, hot and cold at the same time. She screamed loudly, the sound piercing through the air heavily. It was a shockwave.
Birds scattered into the sky fearfully, Windows shattered. The men around her clutched their ears, stumbling back, faces twisted in pain.
The alley trembled.
Adina's body arched as if pulled by invisible strings. Her eyes shot open, blinding white, no pupils. Her hair whipped wildly around her, wind rushing in from nowhere.
The man who'd hovered over her snarled in panic, but his claws halted midair. He staggered back, his ears dripping with blood.
Suddenly they all couldn't see, a thin mist had begun to form, blinding their sights. They heard loud squawking from above in the sky, and all shook in fear, their claws extended even in the mist.
White doves suddenly drove into the alley like they'd been summoned. Their wings flapped violently, each squawking loudly.
The white doves flooded the alley, slicing through the fog. They attacked the men, One by one, the masked men screamed in pain as the birds dove into them, pecking at eyes, ears, nose, mouth. It was horrific.
Doves weren't even dangerous birds. They were the calm, peaceful birds so how?
Adina didn't move, She hovered, her feet no longer touched the ground, Her veins glowed red through her skin, almost porcelain-like. Her mouth parted, but no sound came.
And suddenly the men dropped to the ground, lifeless, all of them. The doves were gone in an instant, and the just cleared.
Adina slowly dropped to the ground, eyes back to normal, body weaker than ever. She gasped, throat burning. Her gaze fell to the men, and fear wracked through her veins.
Their eyes bled red, nostrils dripped blood, ears dripped blood. Fingernails dripped blood. Every part of their body dripped blood.
She screamed once again and fell unconscious.
