Blood Saga

Chapter 3: fear

Amidst the Chaos The alley buzzed with tension as Richard, who initially stepped in to save a random girl's life, now fought desperately for his own.

The girl, crouched against the cold brick wall, watched the scene unfold with wide, terrified eyes. Her breath came in shallow gasps as her body refused to obey her pleas to run. Even when one of the thugs collapsed unconscious, she found herself frozen, paralyzed by fear and the overwhelming guilt that her inability to move could cost this young man his life.

Richard's POV

The moment I saw the senior thug recovering from my earlier attack, his glare fixed on me, I knew I was in deep trouble. His eyes burned with fury, and I could feel the murderous intent radiating from him. My grip on the metal rod tightened as he lunged at me, knife in hand.

His movements were different this time—sharper, faster, deadlier. Each swing of his blade targeted vital points with precision, leaving me barely enough time to dodge. How the hell is this thug so good with a knife? I thought, panic rising in my chest.

Every attack came closer to connecting, and some did, grazing my arms and torso, leaving shallow cuts that stung like fire. I clenched my teeth, trying to focus, but the fear was overwhelming.

Fuck… when are the police getting here? I muttered under my breath, sweat dripping down my face.

My reflexes, dulled by years of neglect, were struggling to keep up. I couldn't find an opening. I was on the back foot, every ounce of my energy spent on survival.

Then, suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching. A flicker of hope sparked within me. Maybe someone had come to help.

Third-Person POV

A tall man emerged from the shadows, his footsteps deliberate and slow. He carried an air of authority that made Richard's stomach churn.

"Max," the man said, his voice calm yet icy. "What exactly are you doing here?"

Max froze mid-attack, his knife wavering. "Boss… I—uh—this kid, he just—"

"Shut up," the man interrupted sharply, his voice rising just enough to silence the thug.

"I don't want your excuses," the boss interrupted, his gaze shifting to Richard. His eyes, cold and unfeeling, scanned him like a predator sizing up its prey. "You couldn't handle a simple task. Useless."

"You've wasted enough of my time. I don't like loose ends." His cold gaze pierced through Richard as he raised the gun, his voice calm but brimming with deadly intent.

Without another word, the man pulled a gun from behind his back.

Richard's POV

The thug stopped attacking me, his attention shifting to the man who had just arrived. I took a step back, my chest heaving, as I tried to make sense of the situation.

Then I saw it—the boss pulling out a gun.

My heart plummeted.

"My legs turned to lead, and a shiver coursed through me as the chill of dread settled in my bones."

"You just couldn't mind your own business, could you?" His words made my blood run cold. "Now I've got to teach you a lesson you won't live to remember."

"The moment he pulled out the gun, time seemed to freeze. I saw the barrel aimed at me, the cold glint of metal catching the dim light. My body refused to move, as if the weight of fear had locked me in place.

Then, the deafening sound of the first shot shattered the silence.

A sharp, burning pain erupted in my chest, knocking the wind out of me. I stumbled back, my vision blurring as I gasped for air. My legs gave out beneath me, and I collapsed onto the cold, hard ground.

Through the haze of pain, I heard a second shot. The force of it struck me again, and I could feel the life draining from my body.

In the corner of my fading vision, I saw the girl's face—her mouth open in a silent scream, her eyes wide with horror. She was frozen in place, unable to run, unable to save herself."

I stumbled, the world spinning around me as the pain spread like wildfire.

The gunshot rang out, the sound reverberating through the alley. Richard staggered back, clutching his chest as blood seeped through his shirt. He gasped, his vision blurring.

But the boss wasn't done. His eyes flicked to the girl, who sat frozen in terror.

"Loose ends," he muttered, raising the gun again.

"The girl's silent scream echoed in my mind as the world faded around me. Her wide, tear-filled eyes were the last thing I saw before darkness claimed me."
