Chapter 107: Julie's home city
The harbormaster sat in his office comfortably leaned back in his chair as he waited for the next extortion to go though, a particularly wealthy-looking ship had just entered his harbor so he was in a good mood for the upcoming negotiation
"What's the name of the ship again?"
"It's the 'bloodhound' sir"
"The bloodhound huh… Who the fuck names a ship that?"
"I have no idea sir"
As he chatted with his assistant knocking sound out in the room as someone knocked on the door, the harbormaster gestured to his assistant to open the door, she walked over and opened the door, when the harbormaster saw who was behind the door he showed a slight frown, Mike registered that and asked bluntly
"What? Something on my face?"
The harbormaster waved his hand dismissively at Mike
"I don't negotiate with slaves, go get your master"
Mike narrowed his eyes as he spoke
"Rebecca, break his legs"
"Yes master"
Rebecca, clad in full armor stepped into the room and kicked off the ground making it carve in slightly as she appeared in front of the desk before she kicked it upwards splintering the hardwood desk totally making the pieces embed themselves into the ceiling before she punched down at the harbormaster's knee sending a loud crack sound out in the room
"AAAGGGRRRGGGHHH!!!"
"It's too early to cry out, you still have a leg---"
"AAAGGGRRRGGGHHH!!!"
"---left… Not anymore though, oh well"
Mike then walked over to the couch that was facing the harbormaster and brushed the wood stumps away before he sat down before he began speaking
"Now I am only on this shithole of a low mana density island because my soon to be wife wants to get married here so let me make this very clear to you, hey are you listening?"
The harbormaster was rolling on the floor in pain as he cried out, Mike gave a frown before he looked over at the assistant and asked
"And why aren't you writing anything down? The meeting has already started"
"B-But what about the harbormaster?"
Mike narrowed his eyes dangerously at the assistant as he repeated
"Write. It. Down."
"Y-Yes!"
The assistant took out a blank piece of paper and a pencil before she looked at Mike
"First off, my name is Mike I am the master and owner of the bloodhound that will remain docked here for about a month, I don't need any protection against thieves nor do I want to pay something bothersome like a fee to dock or give up any of my cargo"
"B-But---"
"No buts, then I wish you a very good day… Oh, right dose the harbormaster named a successor?"
"Yes?"
"Oh, in that case"
Mike pointed a finger at the harbormaster and fired off a blood explosion spell which ended his life as he bled out of his nose and mouth as well as his constant crying out in pain returning silence to the room, then Mike stood up and looked at the frightened assistant and spoke with a wide slime on his face
"Make sure he learns to check the levels of the people he attempts to extort before he well… Extorts them, as not doing so can be fatal"
Mike ignored the pale assistant and stood up before he walked out of the harbormaster's office and back down to the street where he looked around before he felt Julie's location and walked in that direction followed by Rebecca in full armor when he found Julie her hand and most of her arm was covered in blood and on the floor in front of her lay a person with a gaping hole in their chest, Julie was currently licking the blood of her arm as she stood and waited
"Oh, hey Mike… How did it go with the harbormaster?"
Mike showed a smile
"It went well, his successor will not be as bold as he was… I assume this is the chief carriage maker in town?"
"Yeah, he was rude"
"I see… Well, how long with it take before a carriage is ready for us?"
"They said it will be done by sunrise"
"Oh, that's good then… Let's go find a place to eat"
"Sure"
Mike and Julie walked around town arm in arm for a bit before they found a place to eat, it seemed news of their arrival had spread over the town as the server was surprisingly nice to them (Despite how pale and soaked in cold sweat she was). After eating the two of them toured the town looking at ships and the like before they went back to the docked Bloodhound and went to sleep in the evening…
The next day a large group of people left the Bloodhound, among them were Mike and Julie as well as the eight demonic servants, about 20 level 5 spores, and Serina, after making a few purchases in the port town the group left the town as a caravan with 28 on horseback in a formation around a red carriage which was pulled by four horses, the caravan made several stops under its 2-week journey and much blood was spilled during that time as it seemed the non-human racism laid deep in the island and also given that fact that neither Mike nor Julie could take any 'jokes'
"Are we there yet?"
"Nope"
"...But we should be there today right?"
"Yup Julie dear, we have had this conversation a few times now, and with 'a few times' I mean exactly 28 times now"
"Oh… Sorry, Mike, I am just a little excited about seeing my mother"
"Yeah… I know"
Mike took Julie's hand and stroked it with his thumb as he looked out the window
'I wonder if… Nah probably not…'
Mike shook his head and cleared his mind as there was a knock on the carriage door, Julie reached over and opened the window and saw Elina on horseback
"Master, mistress, we are nearing a city"
Julie lit up with excitement while Mike showed a smile as he spoke
"Well then, proceed with entering the city… Be polite, it's Julie's birth city"
"Yes master! I will relay your orders, excuse me"
Elina rode off to relay Mike's orders as Julie was practically jumping up and down at this point, when the carriage came to a halt she took Mike by the hand and dragged him out of the carriage to line up for inspection at the gates, the guards seemed dismissive which made Julie impatient, then while they watched she made a flame above her hand and spoke while her mana churned
"I am level 5, let us pass or I'll burn all to a crisp!"
The guards looked at each other and decided not to test Julie as they felt the oppressive feeling from her mana, therefor they opened a path for the two of them, Julie once again dragged Mike away into the city of Glawen, Mike tried his best to commit the name to memory as it was where Julie had been born, at this point, Julie was talking at near speeds of light as she told Mike stories about every single palace they passed in the city, when they neared the center of the city she slowed down however as she gradually came to a halt, Mike was about to ask what happened when he followed her line of sight, there stood a woman in her 50's, she too was staring at Julie with her mouth wide open, the woman had a fair complexion and seemed to be in good health, Mike could see the resemblance, this was Julie's mother
"Julie?"
"Mother…"
Julie froze, she had changed too much, she feared that her mother would not recognize her again, clearly this was not the case as the elderly woman walked over and embraced her in a hug, Julie looked confused around clearly not knowing what to do, Mike signaled her to hug her back, which she did after hesitating for a bit, after the two of them shared a hug for a few minutes Julie spoke
"Mother"
"What is it Julie?"
Julie showed a smile as she then looked back at Mike
"I have someone I want to introduce to you… This is Mike… My fiancée"
Julie's mother looked surprised for a moment before she looked over Mike for a few moments and showed a smile and unwarped herself from Julie before she walked over and stood in front of Mike and looked at him from head to toe for a minute or two, as she did her smile got wider and wide, then she bowed as she spoke
"Please take care of my daughter"
Mike showed a smile
"I will"
The three of them walked along the road in silence as Julie's mother probably needed some time to think over some things, she had of course not noticed Mike and Julie's escorts as they kept their distance the only exchange between them was Mike offering to take Julie's mothers bags which she gave up with a smile
