Bleach: My Life as a shinigami starts from Heuco Mundo

Chapter 1: The world after death

A pale crescent moon hung in the sky, the moonlight was dim, the light sprinkling down like silver snow. Looking around, the landscape was nothing but an endless desert; the sand coloured an eerie, boney white. In the desert, you could occasionally see some hills and dry trees, but whether it be in the hills or the trees, there was no green.

This was a world of dead silence.

It was the world of the dead.

Cold, unforgiving and unshaking.

Tsubaki slowly opened his eyes and first felt a biting chill. He looked around. This environment was beyond his expectations.

"Is this the afterlife?"

Tsubaki thought so.

He was dead, and he knew it.

When he was young, he had great ambitions, wanting to grow rich and powerful with a loving wife and die surrounded by his loved ones in his late eighties. But fate was cruel. When he was in his forties, he was diagnosed with cancer, and when it was discovered, it was already in the late stage.

He basically spent the last moments of his life in bed.

Finally, when he was sure that there was no possibility of survival, he simply moved back to his hometown and waited for death.

When the pain came and his consciousness gradually left his body, his short life passed by quickly like a slide show, and finally came to an abrupt end, leaving only endless regrets.

He didn't know how long he was in a confused state after that, and he wasn't very clear about what happened during that time. He only knew that when he woke up, he appeared here.

"I never thought there would actually be an afterlife…So, is this hell or the underworld? Couldn't possibly be heaven…right?" The thought of this being heaven honestly scared him more than being in hell.

Tsubaki thought for a moment before struggling up to his feet. He found that the clothes he was wearing were the clothes he wore when he was waiting to die at home. In order to avoid the trouble of putting on clothes after death, he put on the shroud at that time. Actually, was it even a shroud? It was basically just a piece of white cloth he had wrapped around himself.

It wasn't thin, but the world was too cold.

He took a few steps and began to shiver.

Despite the situation Tsubaki found himself extremely relaxed at this moment.

During the last moments of his life, he could no longer move, if he moved even a little, he was struck by excruciating pain. But now, all the pain has left him. He was finally free of that suffering.

Apart from feeling a little cold, he was no different from a normal person right now, it's was like he had attained nirvana for a moment.

The long-lost feeling of relaxation made him move around in the desert. Making sure that he had really gotten rid of the pain, it was obviously impossible for Tsubaki to say that he was unhappy.

If he had known that the world after death was so easy, he would have sought death long ago.

After moving around a bit, he began to look around.

"So, where should I go next?" If this is hell where are the pits of lava and god forbid…if this is heaven there should have been some kind of greetings no?

Tsubaki was very confused.

He found that although he no longer had cancer, he had something else, a chain on his chest below his throat, barely any longer than six inches and he couldn't shake the feeling that it was starting to grow smaller.

We continued walking for a while he climbed a hill thinking he would see some different scenery, but what came into view was still the endless desert.

"It's just dunes, rows and rows of dunes the size of a hill…where the hell am I…"

Tsubaki couldn't help but be speechless. What kind of world was this? Was there even a way out in the first place?

More importantly, after walking for so long, Tsubaki actually found himself a little hungry. He was obviously dead, how could a dead person still be hungry?

Also, what do the dead eat?

Incense?

Didn't my family burn incense for me? Or was it something else?

Just as Tsubaki was thinking this.

Suddenly, he sensed a dangerous aura and his body trembled. He instinctively turned his head and saw a tall human figure with a snow-white body and a beast-like mask on his face crawling not far from him. He could vaguely see saliva flowing out of the other person's mouth, and some words that he could not understand came out of the things mouth.

It seemed to be talking but…Tsubaki wasn't sure.

"Food, delicious food!"

Tsubaki didn't undberstand what this thing was saying, but he knew that it was definitely an enemy. When it appeared, Tsubaki felt a deep malice. Then, he saw It leaping towards him. He was clearly lying on the ground, and there was still some distance from him, but with one jump, It directly crossed the distance.

Tsubaki suddenly came to his senses and quickly jumped to the side. Thanks to his fast reflex he had dodged it's first attack.

But the monster's speed was too fast and his jumping ability was too amazing. The monster continued to attack Tsubaki, and Tsubaki could only try his best to dodge. However, facing this monster, and because of his terminal illness in his previous life, Tsubaki had not exercised for a long time. Naturally, he was not an athlete. Soon, he was pressed to the ground by the monster…

The fishy saliva dripped onto his body, making him nauseous. The smell was sickening to say the least.

The breath of death was approaching, making Tsubaki feel a little dazed due to the bad strength.

"I just came to the afterlife, and I'm dying again?"

"What will happen if a dead person dies again?"

"Reincarnation?"

Tsubaki thought about it, and suddenly, he felt relieved. The monster's palm that was pressing on him had lost its strength, and then its body fell to the side.

Tsubaki regained his freedom.

Before he could feel happy about this sudden change, another figure dressed in black and holding a katana came into his sight. The katana was dripping with blood, the monster's blood.

"Wait, this outfit seems familiar?"

Tsubaki couldn't help but recall the past frantically.

Opposite him, the man who had just dealt with the hollow also saw Tsubaki. To be more precise, he saw the chain hanging on Tsubaki's chest that was getting shorter and shorter.

"The chain hasn't completely disappeared yet? Are you whole who just died? How did you even get in here?"

Tsubaki wasn't sure how to respond, this was all new to him, way too new. Before he could reply the man spoke up again.

"Although I don't know why you appeared in Hueco Mundo, but since you haven't turned into a Hollow yet, I can perform a soul burial."

As his thoughts flashed, he held the Zanpakutō in his hand, ready to press the end of the handle on the soul's forehead and lead him to Soul Society. A soft smile appeared on the shinigami's face as he saw the confused look on the soul's face, "Don't worry, I am sending you away from here okay? You won't have to worry about this thing trying to kill you again."

Tsubaki's eyes widened in happiness, the shinigami chuckled in turn as he moved the butt of the sword to his forehead but before he could do so-

ROOOAAARR!!!

An ear bleeding roar echoed through the desert, followed by a terrifying spiritual pressure crashing down on both Tsubaki and the shinigami. Had he simply struck Tsubaki's forehead right there... everything.ay have changed but the aura had disoriented the shinigami, causing him to back away.

The man couldn't help but look sideways, and saw the desert ground crack open, and an extremely huge figure emerged from the ground.

"Reio save us…"

This is the outer area of Hueco Mundo. Ordinary Hollows are rarely seen, let alone Menos. The menos in Hueco Mundo are basically concentrated in the menosForest. So why, had a Menos appeared on the outer rings of heuco mundo?!
