"Are you challenging me?"

The sudden voice from behind Asta made him shiver, and he quickly turned around to look.

The first thing he saw was the person he had just threatened to challenge.

His step on the tree branch faltered, and he fell straight down.

The sound of a heavy object hitting the ground echoed. Asta, with his usual indestructible constitution, looked at Black Feather, who had suddenly appeared before him, and stuttered, "Y-You, how are you here? I did say I wanted to challenge you earlier."

"By the way, that magic you used earlier was really cool. After you left, the Magic Emperor showed up and rescued those people, telling you to participate in the upcoming Magic Knights exam."

"It looks like our next match will come soon."

For any magician, possessing a magic book was essential, and aspiring to join the Magic Knights was a dream.

It was also the most direct path to becoming the Magic Emperor.

"Don't worry, you'll get a magic book soon," Black Feather said, his magic energy surging as he tried to form a vortex beneath his feet to float.

However, the sudden surge of magic made him abandon the idea.

Although he had acquired immense magical power, his control over it was still a bit immature.

In the magic tower, avoiding large-scale attacks was fine, but precise manipulation still needed improvement.

And to fix this, the Magic Knights would be a great place to train.

Seeing Black Feather land nearby, Asta quickly stood up and said excitedly, "You think I'll get a magic book too? I knew it, aside from Yuno, someone else believes in me."

"I'm going to train now, and I'll try harder next year."

As he spoke, Asta was about to rush off, but Black Feather stopped him by extending a hand. "Wait a second. Your senses are sharper than most. Find out where Yuno is. There's a fugitive around here who's stealing magic books, and I could use a little cash."

"You mean someone is targeting Yuno's magic book?" Asta was stunned for a moment before urgently replying, "No, that can't happen."

"Yuno is going to become the Magic Emperor, and only I can defeat him!"

"Then hurry up and find him!" Black Feather slapped the back of Asta's head and urged.

Using a little force on Asta, who was naturally a bit slow on the uptake, Black Feather knew this was the fastest way.

Asta immediately snapped out of his daze, completely ignoring the slap, and quickly crawled on the ground, shifting positions to sniff around. He then suddenly looked toward a nearby mountain pass.

"Yuno is in that direction, and there's the scent of another person!"

"Someone else?" Black Feather smiled with relief. It seemed that the Chain Magician hadn't been scared off by his intrusion.

"We need to go quickly. Follow my lead, Yuno is the one I'll defeat!" Asta determined the direction and immediately rushed off, calling to Black Feather.

But as he took just a step, he suddenly felt a chilling cold from behind.

He quickly turned around and saw the magic book in Black Feather's hand, its ice-crystal-like pages flipping on their own without any wind.

"I'm going to step on it; get ready to speed up."

Asta froze for a moment at the strange words.

Before he could react, a bone-chilling cold spread out from under Black Feather's feet.

"Ice Style Magic: Shortcut Ice Path!"

Boom!

Ice spread rapidly beneath Black Feather's feet.

An ice path, over seven to eight meters wide, quickly extended forward.

The speed was so fast that in the blink of an eye, it had reached the mountain road.

"This... This is amazing! You're much stronger than when Yuno fought me!" Asta nearly had his eyes pop out.

As old rivals, Asta had faced many one-sided beatings from Yuno, but seeing Black Feather create an ice road with just Ice Style Magic was something Yuno could never do.

However, Black Feather frowned slightly at the scene, still dissatisfied.

He had intended to make the ice path as narrow as possible. This would not only reduce magical consumption but also increase the speed of its spread.

But with his current control over magic, this six- or seven-meter-wide path was clearly the limit.

Of course, if outsiders knew that a newcomer who had just gotten his magic book could not only cast large-scale magic but also control it so precisely, they would be incredibly envious.

But who would complain like Black Feather?
