Chapter 12: Chapter 12: A Powerful Magic Tycoon
The tavern fell into a strange and eerie silence.
The sight of the young man standing before them, so slender yet capable of killing without hesitation, left everyone stunned.
"Ding-dong... Congratulations, host, you have successfully checked in and received a Precision Magic Potion."
Precision Magic Potion?
Kuroha raised an eyebrow, sensing two black potion vials in his bag. He glanced at them briefly, a playful smile forming as he said, "Is the task transfer complete?"
The elderly bartender snapped back to reality, casting a meaningful glance at Kuroha. "Please wait a moment..."
"Miss, please take out your level insignia and use it."
"My?" Noelle was startled.
However, Kuroha quickly gave her a glance and said, "Hurry up, I'm hungry."
Sensing the warning in his eyes, Noelle froze for a moment before hastily handing over her level insignia.
During this exchange, the people around the bar held their breath, not daring to make a sound.
When the bartender finally returned the insignia after processing the task transfer, everyone let out a silent sigh of relief.
"Both of you, the task has been completed, and the payment for O'Neill's squad has been credited to your accounts," the bartender said.
"However, as the task coordinator, I still need to explain a few things."
"This task is to resist a sudden magical beast attack on the village to the east, near the mountain range. Since you're taking a Steel-tier mission, you'll need to arrive at East Mountain Village by tomorrow morning."
"Tomorrow?" Noelle's face changed.
East Mountain Village was at least several dozen miles away, and the journey was rough. Even with a cart, they wouldn't make it in time.
As for a flying broomstick, Noelle knew that with her control over magic, it was beyond her capability.
"Do you have a magic broomstick?" Kuroha asked, glancing at Noelle.
Noelle instinctively nodded, "Don't you have one?"
For a Magus, a magic broomstick was a basic piece of equipment.
"I'm broke, I don't," Kuroha replied.
At that moment, the tavern fell silent, the shock evident on everyone's faces.
A Steel-tier adventurer calling himself broke?
Were they supposed to be beggars then?
"I have an old broomstick from my past, though it's a lot harder to control. You'll need at least the strength of three Bamboo-tier magics to handle it, but it will be faster than ordinary ones," the bartender said, eyeing a broomstick covered in dust hanging from the ceiling.
"Three Bamboo-tier?" An adventurer with some knowledge spoke up. "That means you need to control three magical bamboos to float. It's no easy feat."
"What's this Bamboo-tier?" Kuroha scratched his nose, asking innocently.
The atmosphere in the tavern froze again.
Seeing this ruthless young man who had just killed without hesitation now asking such a question made him seem completely out of place.
Noelle, feeling a little embarrassed, explained softly, "The Bamboo-tier is one of the Magic Knights' entrance assessments..."
Magical bamboo can influence magic, and through precise magic flow, it can be made to stand upright.
The more bamboo stalks one can control, the more accurate and precise their magic control is, as well as the better their ability to handle a magic broomstick.
Kuroha felt the gazes of doubt from those around him and decided he needed to learn more about magic knowledge in the future.
Without proper knowledge, even with strong magical power, he would just be like a nouveau riche with no understanding of the essentials.
"Old man, I take it this broomstick with three Bamboo-tier magic power has quite a history," Kuroha said, eyeing the bartender.
The broomstick reminded him of the difference between his previous life's sports car and an everyday vehicle.
The Three Bamboo-tier broomstick could be considered a "commoner's sports car."
The bartender's face wrinkled in pride as he recalled, "This broomstick was a reward I received after failing to secure the vice-captain position in the Magic Knights. It accompanied me for quite some time."
"However, if you think you can't control it, there are other abandoned brooms on the wall. They were left by some unlucky adventurers who planned to sell them but never returned."
"Since I like you, I'll give you one as a gift."
The adventurers in the tavern immediately regretted not having befriended this elder earlier.
If they had known the old man had once been part of the Magic Knights, they would have done whatever it took to gain his favor.
After all, many pieces of equipment from the Magic Knights were being retired, and for adventurers like them, such secondhand gear was invaluable.
"The abandoned broomsticks?" Kuroha followed the old man's gaze to the wall where several broomsticks hung.
They looked far less impressive compared to the Three Bamboo-tier broomstick.
But Kuroha knew his magic control was decent, though he had never tested it.
This might be a good opportunity to try.
"Old man, I'd like to give it a try..." Kuroha said.
"Try?" The bartender blinked in surprise. "Ah, I see. The temptation of a Three Bamboo-tier broomstick is indeed strong. Go ahead and try. If it doesn't work, you can pick from the others."
