Billionaire: Money and Power

Chapter 7: Chapter 7 – "When the Hunt Begins"

Lagos – A Dangerous Game

Joshua stared at the note on his desk.

"You made the wrong choice."

His room was still a mess—evidence that someone had been here. Someone powerful enough to send a warning without being seen.

He took a deep breath and grabbed his phone. Time to move differently.

He called Mr. Bayo.

"Boss," he said as soon as the line connected.

Mr. Bayo sighed. "You're calling me now? After rejecting protection?"

Joshua ignored that. "Who do you think did this?"

"Otunba has many men," Mr. Bayo said. "And you embarrassed him. That note means he's not done with you."

Joshua clenched his jaw. This was bigger than business now. This was war.

"Listen," Mr. Bayo continued. "You need to leave Lagos for a while. Lay low."

Joshua smirked. "And let them think they scared me?"

"This isn't a game, boy!" Mr. Bayo snapped. "They don't send threats for fun. The next message won't be a note. It'll be a bullet."

Silence.

Joshua's mind raced. If he backed down now, he would never be taken seriously again.

And in this city, weakness meant death.

"I appreciate the concern, boss," Joshua said, standing up. "But I'm staying."

"Then find protection," Mr. Bayo said. "Fast."

The call ended.

Joshua exhaled.

Fine. If they wanted a war, he'd be ready.

The Café – A Confession

Later that afternoon, Joshua met Amara at their usual café.

She was already waiting, dressed in a simple white blouse and jeans. Beautiful as ever.

"You look exhausted," she said as he sat down.

Joshua leaned back. "Long night."

"Does it have to do with that 'business' you never tell me about?"

Joshua hesitated.

Could he trust her?

She was the only real peace he had in all this madness. But if he pulled her in, she would be a target too.

"Amara," he said, voice low. "I need you to trust me."

Her eyes softened. "I do, Joshua. But you're hiding something big."

He exhaled, rubbing his temples. "I can't say much. Not yet. But things are… dangerous."

She reached across the table, touching his hand.

"Then let me be there for you."

Her touch sent a warmth through his chest.

For a moment, the weight on his shoulders felt lighter.

But deep down, he knew this was only the beginning.

A Dangerous Invitation

That night, Joshua received a text from an unknown number.

"Meet me at Ikoyi Bridge. Midnight. Come alone."

No name. No explanation.

A trap? Most likely.

But he had no choice. He needed to know who else was watching him.

Midnight – Ikoyi Bridge

The city lights reflected off the dark waters as Joshua walked toward the bridge's center.

A black SUV was parked ahead, headlights off.

A man stood beside it, smoking a cigar.

As Joshua got closer, the man exhaled a cloud of smoke and smirked.

"You've got guts, kid."

Joshua kept his face unreadable. "Who are you?"

The man chuckled. "Call me Adisa. And let's just say… I don't work for Otunba."

Joshua frowned. "Then why are you here?"

Adisa tossed his cigar into the water. "Because I like seeing young men like you who refuse to bow."

Joshua stayed silent.

Adisa continued. "Otunba's men are coming for you. But I have a counteroffer."

Joshua folded his arms. "I don't like being controlled."

Adisa grinned. "Good. Because I'm not offering control. I'm offering power."

Joshua narrowed his eyes.

"Join me," Adisa said. "And I'll make sure Otunba never touches you again."

Joshua's heart pounded.

Ally with a new power… or fight alone?

The war had officially begun.
