Chapter 231: Chapter 231: Transporting Gold and Jewels

Upon learning that William had purchased the land surrounding the castle, Lina happily rode her horse over to him, patting him on the head from her higher vantage point. "Well done, William. I'll personally cook some of your favorite dishes for lunch as a reward. Since there's still time, go review the documents for the land. You bought it, so you should know the specifics. Now, get lost. Stop bothering me while I practice my equestrian skills."

William helplessly watched his mother ride back to the center of the field. Ah, well, his mom had always been like this, treating him like a child, summoning him at will and then shooing him away.

Especially when Lina was engaged in something she enjoyed, she would often tell William to get lost. He sighed, hoping that Lina wouldn't treat her future grandchildren the same way.

Shaking his head, William decided not to tell his mother that he could soon buy Chelsea, letting her be pleasantly surprised for a few more days. With nothing to do, William drove a golf cart back to the castle to review the land documents Anthony had sent over.

After a grand lunch prepared by Lina herself, William met with his lawyer, Anthony, signed a check and the land purchase contract, and took a nap. Upon waking, he resumed his mining endeavors.

Thus, William spent his days inspecting the newly purchased land and his nights as a miner. A few days later, he finally finished digging a passageway 2.5 meters high, 3 meters wide, and 20 meters long. He reinforced the floor and ceiling of the treasure room with magic. Satisfied with the results, he donned the prepared night suit, wrapping himself tightly.

Opening a portal, William used his mental powers to scan the treasure room in Trinity Church, New York. Finding nothing unusual, he stepped through the portal into the treasure room.

First, he walked to the two exits and checked the alert spells he had previously set. Seeing that both spells were intact, he felt relieved. William then cast five or six light orbs in the air, illuminating the treasure room and revealing the treasures in full detail.

Seeing the treasure again, William couldn't help but feel excited. Gold, silver, and jewels have a different feel compared to paper money. The former is true wealth, while the latter, compared to gold and silver, is just paper. The two cannot be compared.

Staring at the thousands of square meters of treasure, William felt a headache. How long would it take him to move all this by himself? Additionally, he dared not touch fragile antiques like parchment books for fear of breaking them.

After pondering for a long time without finding a suitable method, he realized he would need professional equipment to move the delicate antiques properly. However, he couldn't risk buying such equipment, even on the dark web, and he certainly couldn't trust anyone else to purchase it. He wanted no loose ends concerning the treasure.

If worst came to worst, he would leave the large antiques and fragile items for later. For now, he decided to transport the gold bars, gold coins, and easily movable jewels back to the castle.

With his mind made up, William excitedly approached the gold bar area.

His hands trembled as he touched the piles of gold bars. There were a total of eight stacks, each over a meter high and one and a half meters wide, neatly arranged like pyramids on the rock.

A cubic meter of gold weighs 19.32 tons. William began transferring the gold bars to his storage space, counting them mentally. When he reached 1600 bars, he had finished one stack.

Each gold bar was marked with its weight: 400 ounces, which converts to 12.5 kilograms.

With 1600 bars in a stack, each stack weighed 20 tons. Calculating quickly, he realized that eight stacks equaled 160 tons of gold, which was 20 tons more than recorded in Henry's journal.

Could it be that the Templars who came to America centuries ago found a gold mine? Otherwise, how could there be an extra 20 tons of gold? William pondered, recalling that there weren't any gold mines in the eastern US; they were all in the west. Perhaps it was plundered from the natives? Early American natives had a lot of gold, and they only considered it decoration, not currency. Some books even mentioned trading a steel knife for an equal amount of gold. Steel has a density of 7.8, so the same volume of gold is roughly 2.47 times heavier.

The additional 20 tons delighted William. "Whatever the reason, all this gold is mine now," he thought.

160 tons of gold at today's prices were worth about $4.8 billion, more than his bank deposits. This was true heirloom wealth, more valuable than anything else.

After several hours and nine trips back and forth, William had transferred all 12,800 gold bars into his treasure room. Gold is incredibly dense; though 12,800 bars seemed a lot, they formed a stack just over 16 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 0.25 meters high when laid out in the treasure room.

He didn't dare stack the gold like in Trinity Church's treasure room, fearing the weight would collapse the floor of his castle's treasure room. After a short rest, he returned to New York and began transporting boxes of jewels to his castle.

In half an hour, he had transported all 14 boxes of jewels, neatly placing them next to the gold stack. Opening one box, he was momentarily blinded by the glittering gems. He held his chest and used his mental powers to open all the boxes.

With all the boxes open, William's heart raced even more. He picked up a thumb-sized ruby from one box and decided against using his mental powers to close the boxes, fearing his excitement might destabilize his powers.

He closed all the boxes by hand and quickly left the treasure room, standing in the escape tunnel to calm down. A few minutes later, he finally managed to steady his excited heart.

It wasn't that he lacked composure, but the sheer quantity and brilliance of the jewels were overwhelming. If a woman saw this, William was sure she'd faint with happiness.

For now, William decided not to tell his mother about the gold and jewels. Firstly, it wouldn't be of much use to her. Secondly, it would be hard to explain where they came from.

It was more reasonable to give his mother jewels for jewelry now and then. Gradually, she would get used to it, and the novelty would wear off.

Using magic, he repaired the hole between the treasure room and the escape tunnel, disguising the newly repaired wall. After ensuring even his mental scan couldn't detect any differences, he felt reassured.

Standing outside the treasure room, he pondered for a moment, then decided to seal the escape tunnel about 100 meters from the exit with earth magic. He would decide whether to reopen it after thoroughly inspecting the exit.

Returning to the basement, he changed his clothes, took the ruby, and happily returned to the first floor of the castle.
