Between Your Letter and My Reply

Chapter 145

Chapter 145

Damian narrowed his eyes at Lilliana’s chilling words.

“I’m not Casey. The reason Casey can kill all the enemies and escape is that he can thoroughly erase any evidence. But I don’t have many ways to do that. If any of them die and the police start investigating, it will only be a matter of time before I’m caught.”

“Then I’ll do it.”

“Do what?”

“Erase the evidence! I can burn everything without leaving a trace, just like brother.”

Damian imagined Lilliana burning a bullet-ridden corpse and shook his head, disgusted.

“Lilliana, while we’re on the subject, I have no intention of letting you do such a thing.”

“Why?”

“Have you ever seen a dead body?”

“No.”

“That’s why you can’t do it.”

“But brother can?”

“Casey… No, to be honest, I can’t imagine you doing something like that. It’s not something you should do.”

“But…!”

“Once we get out of here, they won’t be able to do anything to us for a while. So let’s think about escaping first.”

Unfortunately, the exit was on the other side of the warehouse, and they had to pass the enemies to get to the door.

“What are you doing?! Catch them!”

Geoffrey yelled, still agitated despite his injury. The three uninjured men slowly approached Damian and Lilliana.

“So you’re saying we have to get out of here without killing anyone and in a peaceful way?” Lilliana asked Damian, who was keeping an eye on their enemies.

“That would be ideal. But personally, escaping without killing is quite troublesome…” Damian muttered.

Lilliana puffed out her chest and declared, “Then I’ll do it.”

“Huh?”

“I think I can do it.”

“What are you talking about, Lilliana? Don’t do anything and just stay there. Let me think.”

Lilliana, annoyed that Damian was ignoring her, picked up a screw that was rolling on the floor and threw it at him.

“No! I really can do it! Just listen to me first!”

Damian looked at Lilliana, who was glaring at him with firm determination, with an unconvinced expression and asked,

“Tell me what you’re going to do.”

“I’ll create a wall of fire. And trap those people inside it! Then they won’t be able to come out easily. We can escape while they’re trapped.”

Damian thought carefully while firing cover shots. He took advantage of a brief lull and asked Lilliana again, “Are you sure you can do it?”

“Yes. Trust me. I’m Lilliana Carnell, remember?”

“Then I’ll cover you, so give it a try. And try not to expose yourself too much.”

“Aye, aye, sir.”

Lilliana saluted playfully in response to Damian’s approval.

She smashed the car’s side mirror with a hammer that was lying around. Then, she picked up a shard of the mirror and used it to locate the enemies’ positions by reflecting their images.

“Yes, I think I can do it.”

Lilliana nodded and brought her hands together, palms facing each other. After a moment, a round ball of fire formed between her hands. She threw it over the car.

The enemies were momentarily wary of the sudden fireball, but they soon scoffed at Lilliana’s seemingly weak power and ignored it.

But that was their mistake. The fireball rolled quickly across the floor. Soon, a tall, large wall of fire formed where the fireball had passed.

The flames, blazing like a curtain, quickly engulfed Geoffrey and the men.

“What is this?!”

They could hear the men panicking and scrambling. Damian and Lilliana didn’t miss that opportunity.

“Run!”

Damian grabbed Lilliana’s hand and ran. Lilliana, despite panting, ran with all her might, following Damian.

Just then, someone walked out through the flames.

Damian instinctively sensed danger, pulled Lilliana into his arms, and threw himself to the side.

Bang! Bang!

Several gunshots rang out, and the spot where Lilliana and Damian had just been standing was riddled with bullet holes. It was Geoffrey who had shot at them.

Damian, while shielding Lilliana with his body, returned fire from his prone position. He hadn’t aimed properly, so the bullet only grazed Geoffrey’s clothes.

Still, it bought them some time. As Geoffrey faltered, Damian took the opportunity to find cover and hide with Lilliana.

“How did he get through the fire?” Lilliana muttered in confusion. This wasn’t part of the plan.

Geoffrey shot at the thick pillar they were hiding behind and said, “Did you think I would come unprepared for fire when meeting someone with the blood of a salamander?”

It seemed that Geoffrey had been granted fire resistance through magic from Seidel. Damian clicked his tongue. He pressed down on Lilliana’s back to make her duck and whispered, “Don’t get up. I’ll be back in a moment.”

“What? Damian, what are you going to do?”

Lilliana tried to grab Damian, but he darted out from behind the pillar like the wind. Geoffrey, as if waiting for him, pointed his gun at Damian.

Bang!

As the gunshot echoed, Damian rolled on the floor and swiftly approached Geoffrey. Then, he tripped him with his foot.

Geoffrey lost his balance and fell. Damian got up and, in one swift motion, elbowed him in the solar plexus.

“Ugh!”

Geoffrey, easily subdued by Damian, let out a groan and lost consciousness. Damian checked to make sure he was truly unconscious by kicking him, then ran to Lilliana and pulled her along.

Lilliana glanced back as she ran with Damian. It seemed that only Geoffrey had fire resistance, as the other men couldn’t follow them.

They ran out of the warehouse and soon reached an alley. Damian pushed Lilliana into a taxi parked inside the alley and got into the passenger seat. It was the same taxi he had taken earlier.

The taxi driver, who had been dozing off in the driver’s seat, woke up at their appearance and wiped his mouth. Damian fastened his seatbelt and shouted urgently, “Please hurry and leave!”

“Huh? Oh, yes!”

The taxi driver started the car with a bewildered look.

“Faster!”

Damian urged the driver in an anxious voice, but the driver was still flustered.

“I told you, speeding…”

“I said I’ll pay the fine!”

“If I get too many fines, my license will be suspended!”

Damian ignored the taxi driver’s protests and continued to urge him on. The taxi sped towards their house, barely staying within the speed limit.

***

When the taxi arrived at their house, Damian and Lilliana entered the “Rabbit’s Garden” on the first floor.

Casey was sitting at a corner table, scribbling in his notebook. He looked up with wide eyes, seeing them return earlier than expected and in such a disheveled state.

Lilliana was a bit worried about telling Casey what had happened.

If this human, no, this 90% spirit, heard that she had been kidnapped, he wouldn’t stay still…

“Lilliana was kidnapped,” Damian said, sitting across from Casey with a tired expression.

Lilliana inwardly clicked her tongue, and as she expected, Casey’s face turned grim.
